small room, great location and staff

Would recommend Sun, May 24, 2009
Great location for Clark & Halsted shopping, restaurants, bars. Wrigley baseball just north on Clark. > Next door to Red Line's Belmont Station, yet was not disturbed by "L" noise. Continuous, talented, street musician (drum set)from 3pm check-in drove us to request room change from Belmont-view. Offered two rooms away from the street: still no problem w. "L" > Very good breakfast possibilities: wide selection of cereals and baked goods.

Money saver

Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) 3-day or 7-day passes make for inexpensive travel from airport to hotel, and around town.

Clean and Comfortable

Would recommend Tue, May 12, 2009
Beautiful hotel, pleasant staff, very clean room, ultra comfortable bed and linens. We had a little bit of a security incident one night when returned to the hotel right after a drunken guest had entered. He had just missed knocking my daughter over with his cab door in the street. We tried to avoid him at the entrance as he fumbled to get his key to work, only to find him a few minutes later trying to get his key card to work on the door to our room! We went to the desk and asked for help from the desk clerk, he went upstairs and could not find the inebriated gentleman. It would have been nice if he could have walked us back up to the room to make sure the gent had not come back. Only problem we had during 5 day stay in Chicago. We loved this hotel, it has a great location for us, my daughter within a couple blocks.

Dining

There is a Breakfast/Brunch place called "Orange" a couple blocks over, well worth the walk, they have very creative and delicious breakfast offerings.

An Excellent Value

Would recommend Wed, Apr 22, 2009
A great small hotel that had clean pleasant rooms and very nice bathrooms. Surprisingly quiet.

Nightlife hint

Went to the theater while there and it was a long walk. Parking was off site around the corner and 1/2 a block away so you could get your car if need be. Close to the neighborhoods where we have friends and family if you do not need to be downtown this is a great way to go.

Excellent Hotel

Would recommend Mon, Nov 3, 2008
City Suites Chicago is a friendly, urban hotel with stately charm. It has quiet rooms, despite being next to a commuter train station. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, who would like a central location from which to explore Chicago. The rooms are clean, the staff friendly and helpful, and the continental breakfasts are sumptuous.

Dining

The restaurant Orange is down Belmont and to the right on Clark, featuring the best pancake breakfasts in Chicago! Nookie's Tree is one more block down Belmont, and left two or three blocks on Halsted: a terrific 24-hour diner.

Great Location

Would recommend Sun, Nov 2, 2008
We've stayed here twice, mostly because of the location. It's right near an el station - super convenient to reach anywhere you're going quickly. There are rockin' gift shops on both sides, several excellent breakfast spots, both Indian and Thai food within a block, and a liquor and drug store just down the street. The staff is pleasant and accommodating, coffee and tea are available 24/7 and the selection of classic vocal music in the lobby is grand! Decent continental breakfast as well.

Entertainment hint

Comedy Sportz and The Playground improv venues are within a few steps to one block away.

Good location

Would recommend Mon, Oct 27, 2008
Great location, right next to subway, easy 10 mintues to downtown loop. Hotel is older, and small, creaky rooms. I went in late Fall when weather was cooler (low 40's), and the only heat was a window unit (airconditioner/heater), which was not very efficient. In fact, when we turned in out, it blew a fuse in the room. I think the location makes it a great find, but they need to do simple upkeep.

Listen to the EL All Night Long

Would not recommend Sun, Oct 19, 2008
This hotel was very expensive for the value returned. The EL was just about 100 feet outside our window. The suite was very small - not really larger than a standard room. Parking was over a block away and is an extra charge of over $20/day. I was told not to lose the parking card (which did not work) or I would be charged $250! It was a big hassle to checkin and checkout on Belmont Ave which is a very busy street. The room was more like being on a submarine than a hotel room.

Good value for tourists.

Would recommend Fri, Oct 17, 2008
The hotel is located in a lively, somewhat funky, but safe, neighborhood, with lots of nearby shopping and eating options. The subway is located just a few feet away, and is only a twenty minute ride downtown. But it is much more fun and more interesting to stay here than in the loop or near north. The subway, however, creates the only drawback. Rooms facing the subway - which is elevated at this point are rather noisy, but is helped somewhat if you run the window air conditioner as a fan. This might not be a problem if you get a room facing east - rooms facing north look out on a rather busy street. Otherwise, the room was spotless, homey and very spacious, though not with the last word in carpeting and furnishing. Service was fine. There is a decent continental breakfast, but there are so many good eating options right outside the door! It would be nice if the hotel had some internet capability for those who do not bring a PC or laptop with them.

Dining

One coffee shop across the street, another down the block with good breakfast specials. All sorts of ethnic restaurants within a block or two and many bars, catering to a young, hip, crowd within a few blocks.

convenient to the El and Wrigley

Would recommend Mon, Oct 13, 2008
The rooms are comfortable, a bit on the small side. Staff was ver friendly and helpful. Room and hotel was clean. Our room faced the El stop, which we could hear, but wasn't overly loud. City Suites was close to several restaurants and Wrigley Field. A nice walk to Lake Michigan as well...
