Good stay!

This hotel is located right along the beach and about 15 minutes away from the main city area. It has free parking which is awesome because parking is very hard to find in the city. However, we would have to pay a lot for parking when we went to the city. On our last day of trip, we managed to find free parking at a Target and just walked to our location. I wish we had known that before instead of wasting money on parking. Coming back to the hotel, it is a brand new buidling so everything is very clean. It has a very contemporary feel to it, which very different and nice. They are actually two hotels that are apparently owned by the same owner: La Quinta and Lakeshore. We were orignally booked at Lakeshore but they gave us a room in La Quinta. It is the newer location seemed like. But overall, I really recommend it. It's a good deal.

Wait for renovation

Location was good, out of the Chicago traffic , shuttle, taxi, bus to destination, staff was friendly and helpful, this is hooked to Laquinta , but actually is lakeshore hotel, Laquinta looked much better, but we got lakeshore, it is under renovation , which desperately needs , the rooms were in need of repair , carpet dirty , only warm water for shower, bed and pillows not comfortable, ...there was a nice cafe next door for breakfast ..maybe reconsider when there all done ...

Good trip not good stay

Me and my son took a 3 day two night trip to chicago and stayed at the chiago lake shore hotel. The hotel was under construction and witch I understand they are trying to make it better but they were banging outside of our door at 7 am. Our first night we went into room and turned on air conditioning and left when we came back our room and bed was covered in little foam pecies. Also there was sposed to be a pool that was closed. We went to museum of science and industry there was sposed to be a shuttle to take us there and we showe'd up 15 min early and sat there for 45 before they told us it had already left. Mind you they were sposed to anouce when they were leaving and never did. So we ended up driving and paying 22 dollars to park there. The doors barely closed and the outside door to room did not close. I would never stay at this hotel again and would advise no one else do the same. I work in the people business and am never one to complain this is actually the first review I've every wrote that was negative but this place is really bad. Stay away!

Thank Goodness for Meghan

It's under construction....that should say it all....no sleeping in, bang, bang and more bangs, bumps, feet stomping, construction workers hollering, hammers hammering.....it was a mess.....some of the staff were borderline rude, but Meghan was a doll....she helped at every rough spot.....I don't know where she was Thursday (I guess she gets a day off :)), but the empathy lacking, a tad entitled staff was a little much to take. I had a problem with the remote, so I bought the extra remote back and explained that housekeeping had come into my room with the do not disturb sign on the door (which was very small, although the next room had a large sign). This staff person wanted to know who I had talked to previously, and I described Meghan, and she acknowledged her with a disdainful snort of sorts. Not good, they could learn a lot from Meghan. one of them told me that she was studying nursing hope she eventually gives her patients better care than she does hotel guests.

Not fantastic

The room was okay, and the staff friendly. The hotel is under construction. It sounded like they were coming through the walls, as they were working on the room next door. Construction scaffolding, trucks, dumpsters, and equipment made parking, and getting in and out of our room difficult at best. The front desk clerk said there is no E.T.A. for completion. Due to construction, yhere was no vending machines or ice maker, that we could find. We needed a room with two double beds. I requested the ground floor, as I walk with a cane, and stairs are very difficult. The only double beds were on the second floor, and there was no ADA access. There were 14 narrow steep steps leading to the second floor. The access to the hotel was not convenient. It was difficult to get in and out of the area. I would rate our stay as a C. I do not recommend staying here...at least not before construction is complete.

Nice stop by the lake

This is a standard room, nicely appointed, clean, and quiet. Helpful.staff at front.desk. Great location close.to.the lake, beach, and Lakefront path. Casual restaurants and grocery story about four blocks away, and easy to catch train downtown. U of Chicago area.makes.for.truly integrated culture and upbeat feeling in.the area. Ramada inn hotel poorly transitioning

The old Ramada Inn is remodeling into La Quinta and Lakeshore hotels. Was not made aware I had booked the old motel style part (Lakeshore) of the property when booking. The room had scaffolding outside of it with work men banging away. It was dirty all around entry ways to rooms. Had to walk over to La Quinta and go to 4th floor to get ice - basic amenity. No separate check-in desk for Lakeshore hotel. Felt like 2nd class citizens checking in at LQ and walking to LS outside in the construciton zone. No hold bar in bathroom and toilet was 1 inch from tub, 4 feet from toilet paper. Although bed was nice enough, no plugs for cell phones - not even a lamp plug the cheapest hotels have. Weren't told about complimentary breakfast in better hotel next to it, La Quinta which seems to be covering for LS till its fully remodelled. Bummer not to know separation of two and that getting shoddier hotel was biggest disappointment. -

good price and staff, poor facilities

First, the pros: The hotel staff was exceptionally accommodating and hospitable, from the front desk to the restaurant to the shuttle driver. The free shuttle that drops off at Michigan Avenue shopping is a nice feature. The breakfast buffet had a great selection, was very tasty and inexpensive. Now for the cons: The hotel is undergoing extensive renovations and the facilities are in all sorts of disarray, with tarps lining the outdoor walkway, and the front desk being set up in a hotel room. The room I was placed in smelled kind of musty, and I had to keep the curtains drawn at all times since the windows faced out on the walkway on the ground floor. If you need a functional room with free parking, this place is fine. The price is good. Public transportation to downtown is easy to pick up just a few blocks away at 51st St. But if you are on any sort of getaway trip, the rooms and overall appearance of the place are not going to feel so pleasant.
