2nd Time Here

Conveniently located in the South Loop area across from Grant Park. Quieter and less crowded than staying further up on Michigan Ave. Easy 2 block walk to the Red Line, buses in front of the hotel. A few very good restaurants within a couple of blocks, including Lou Malnatis, Eleven City Diner and The Yolk. There is also a full service restaurant and bar in the hotel, a full time front desk, bell service and a very large pool. My only complaint is the very small sink in the bathrooms. The hotel was recently sold, so room renovations are in the works, although the rooms are very quiet and nice to begin with. The hotel was built very solid in 1963. I will stay there again.

A good time

The hotel was clean, close to attractions, and had a gym and pool. I had a lot of time to relax and explore from this hotel just a walk away from many activities and also snuggling inside when it was freezing outside.

Ignore the pool, eat the French cuisine in room service, instead!

Most children want to stay in a hotel with a pool when on vacation. The photos of the Essex pool are incredible from every angle. However, you cannot see in a photo how awfully freezing cold and over-chlorinated this pool with, seemingly, a roof of flags like your family might be visiting an Olympic stadium, really is! No hot tubs AT ALL!! However, the linens, several perfectly plump pillows, as well as gorgeous gauzy coral colored drapes letting in the perfect amount of filtered sun, as well as an unobstructed view of Grant Park, as well as the glittering wake of several boats spending the day out on Lake Michigan was unique for this mid-price range. The man at the front desk was awfully rude, most were except a woman later Friday night at the desk. But if you eat as much fresh truly French, truly Parisian cuisine as possible, well then it's easy to forget. The shuttle was "broken down" while we were there so there went our supposedly free transportation. Not even a warning! However, the sLk feomGrant Park down to Millennium Oark was so gorgeous, most especially at twilight, when sunset colors reect on statues, tiles, metals, statuesque and historical lips with smiles!

Great location

All of the staff were really helpful and this location was great for doing all the things we wanted, museums, theatre, blues venue, and boat cruise on the river. Short walks or taxi drives allowed us to reach all these places easily.

Great spot

It was easy in and out. We didn't stay long enough to use the pool or gym even though we planned on using the gym. Room was great except one wall is Windows so we could hear the loud people talking downstairs. Got the room to attend Wine Riot. Walked to Water Tower too. Overall, great location and room. Would definitely go there again.
