Very good lacation
The people are wonderfully friendly and helpful. Nice to be out of the city yet conveniently available via the Orange line train. Interesting local restaurants close by. You don't need a car which is huge.

Great for budget
We stayed at this hotel for a week while we were down in chicago for a seminar. The staff was wonderful right at check-in and the rooms were very comfortable for the limited amount of time that we were actually in our rooms! They had a cute dog at the lobby and his pictures was in the rooms; what a wonderful personal touch the owner has put into the design of the place! There were lots of restaurants nearby and the trains were close enough to walk to. Could get a little loud if you are a light sleeper as the trains and the airplanes passed by.

Super friendly, helpful staff/ sketch part of town
The Carlton Inn staff were very helpful. We stayed just one night before running the Chicago marathon. We chose the inn based on the best combination of positive reviews, access to public transportation and nearness to downtown. My first phone call, before we booked, confirmed what other reviews said about the staff. They provided a free 24hr shuttle to the train station and plenty of maps and tools for getting around. They were friendly, allowed us to keep the car there even after checkout and served breakfast early for the runners. The room was small but clean and comfortable, with a fridge for our Powerade. The only thing I didn't like was the neighborhood. the hotel itself is tucked around a safe-feeling corner, but we went for a walk at night to the grocery store and saw some rough sites. Then again, I'm sure if it were in nicer part of town it wouldn't be so affordable. We don't know the neighborhood, it may not in actuality be that rough, it was just a feeling we got. I recommend this place for adults who are traveling to and from the airport or who need a base from which to launch their Chicago tour, but families with young children or single people who need to be out at night may be taking a risk.

Great for lay-over between flights
Very helpful and friendly staff. Since there is no elevator, staff offered to help get our bags to the 2nd floor room. Outstanding continental breakfast. Very quick transportation to Midway - 15 minutes. We had a lay-over after a European trip. Would definitely use this hotel again for the same purpose.

Good Location, Good Price!
The staff was really helpful in directing us on getting around the city. They have a personal shuttle to take you to nearby places. The motel was surprisingly clean, if not much to look at. If you are bringing pets, the motel has no grass immediately around the premises, so its a short walk across the street or up the block. Overall the experience was good.
