It's a hotel
More like a dorm than a hotel actually. If I were a student at Columbia College next door, I would be VERY enthusiastic about having free wifi that is spotty at best, cable on an old TV, a pool, and maids.

Just OK
Postives: Great location; awesome views of the lake/city; adequate accomodations. Negatives: Room was somewhat small and "bare bones" (i.e., shampoo and conditioner, and that's it); no restaurant/room service; had to call front desk 3 times before getting someone on the phone for a question; older model tv and pretty run-down extras; small room, small bathroom, and LOUD A/C unit. Overall: The entire experience was just ok. If you're just looking for someplace to stay and want to get our of your room, this hotel was fine. But if you are having a romantic weekend in Chicago, I'd look elsewhere and pony up the extra $50 or so for a nicer hotel.

Never again
The 1st room they gave us was horrible!! The lights didn't work, wall paper was peeling off the wall, there was visible mold in the bathroom, art obviously missing from the walls, the lamp shade was busted and falling apart. When we told them the condition of the room they gave us a new room that was 10 times better! There was still some obvious mold in the bathroom however. Why did they think it was ok to give us that nasty room in the 1st place when there was a perfectly fine room that was available?! Staff was helpful but I would never stay there again.

Look elsewhere
Just spend a little more and stay somewhere else. There is a reason the hotel is relatively cheaper than other nearby hotels. AC was acting crazy; very small and uncomfortable, not a good location, renovation noise... hated it.

Great location, little pricey...
The price was much lower than other hotels in the area. The location is excellent if you want to be within walking distance of the Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum, etc. The downside to this hotel was that the food was so-so. The restaurant was closed for renovations, so the only food option in the hotel for lunch/dinner was the coffee stand. Foodwise, the coffee stand only offered pastries and sandwiches. In addition, the room was full of broken items! The sink drain pull came off in my hand when I tried to run water into the bathroom sink. When I tried to hang up my bath towel, the rack fell off the wall. There was only one working lamp in the room. It was an adventure to see what would happen to me next! On the upside, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The location, the price, and the staff made up for the small inconveniences.

Short walk from hotel
Make time to visit the Field Museum, home of Sue the Tyrannosaurus Rex! I left 2.5 hours for the museum and it was not enough. If you are a museum fan, leave yourself at least 4 hours to see the whole thing.

OK
Main problem was that Orbitz did not actually make the reservation (they had no difficulties charging my credit card, however), so on arriving I had to spend the better part of an hour on the phone with them while trying to keep kids amused. Finally got it all straightened out. Thanks, Orbitz. Grrrrr. Hotel is not bad - we were in town to attend a soccer match at Soldier Field, so the location was perfect for this. Otherwise the staff is pretty friendly but nothing special about the hotel itself. It seems older and a little frayed around the edges but the staff does a good job keeping it in shape.

Anniversary Weekend Getaway
The hotel was in a great location on Michigan Ave., close to museums and restaraunts. The staff was friendly and accomodating. The interior and exterior of the hotel was a little dated and the hotel itself did not have many amenities to offer. However, for the price I would still consider this hotel a good deal.
