Never again!!!!
The room itself was fine and comfortable(very peaceful), but the customer service by the so-called, concierge or "experience something or the others" left much to be desired. First, I arrived and the doorman walked me to the desk. I was not greeted with the usual "Hello, welcome to...". Instead, I got, "Your name? ID?" No, "hello", no "welcome to the Amalfi Hotel," just plain old poor customer service from the very beginning! That left a very bad taste in my mouth, but I decided to let it go and see how the rest of my stay was. The next day, I had some questions about suggestions on where to go to eat dinner. We were looking for any restaurant that was Chicago-based, not the usual chain hotel, and moderately priced. I went downstairs and was confused as to which one was the concierge, since in normal hotels, the concierge was separate from everyone else. But, at the Amalfi, there are two desks with hotel staff and by the door is the podium where the doorman stands. Well, I thought for sure the one at the podium was the actual concierge, due to the fact that anyone who stood there was always so pleasant and attentive. Just in case, I asked the ladies at the desk where I could find the concierge. They replied that they were! One of them was the lady who originally checked me in. So, I tried my luck with the other one, instead. I explained what I was looking for, in terms of restaurants, and lo and behold, she couldn't think of any restaurants to recommend to me! She said she lives on the South Side of Chicago, so she doesn't know the restaurants around there very well. Ummm, I'm thinking that if you are a concierge, then whether you live there or not, you'd still make it your business to know things like that! So, the other lady gave me a few names of restaurants, instead. I realized, later, that there was a restaurant connected to the hotel(you can walk through the hotel to get there), that they failed to mention to me!!! Then, on one occasion, my friend noticed the difference in treatment between one couple and other guests. The couple was made to wait and others were immediately waited on. When the other guests told them the couple was ahead of them, they took the couple's information, without asking them to have a seat, meanwhile proceeding to offer the other guests water while they were waiting. This was the same poor customer service I also received when I arrived, as mentioned above. So, it wasn't just me that received this type of service! Then, we decided to order in one night and proceeded to call and ask for restaurants that delivered and we were told that we could order room service, which would come from a nearby restaurant. We did not have a menu in our room, so her solution was to read me the menu over the phone, line by line! After much annoyance, I asked them to send someone up with the menu, which she seemed annoyed to have to do! Also, I noticed when we would go out for the day and come back, they would never say, "Good morning" or "Good Evening" when they saw us. That's what I am accustomed to at other hotels. My friend was so annoyed by this that one evening she passed by and then turned around and pleasantly said, "Good evening!" The response was a confused "Good evening," as if they were wondering why she said it! The other employees were quite pleasant, especially the doormen! They always greeted you warmly and asked you how your day was going! Housekeeping was ok, but after I left the room one day, I had to return because I forgot something. When I got back to the room the housekeeping cart was holding the door open, but the maid was not in the room! So, anyone could have gone in our room and stolen something. The continental breakfast was fine and I liked that it was on every floor. The wireless service was awful!!!!! My iPhone would not work properly the entire time I was there. Once I left the hotel, it was better! The manager ended up calling me(bill iss...

Incessant beeping
My sister's birthday is next week. I wanted to make it very special for her. After researching a lot of hotels in River North and MagMile - chose a different hotel than this initially. Then after second guessing and hopes to provide the best hotel for my budget -- I chose Amalfi. The pictures of the hotel are deceptive at best. The interior looks drab and dingy. Nothing about the interior is upscale or modern. Size was decent. Lobby is the smallest I have ever seen. Business center is a stand alone rollaway minister and printer outside of the main floor elevator which remains "temporarily" out of service for the 3 nights there. I was hoping to feel comfortable at the very least... But was horribly disappointed upon learning the beeping I heard off an on was due to being placed in room 212 directly above a parking garage. Each time the garage door opened a loud beeping occurred which could be heard and felt (vibration) in our room. I thought some neighbor had a large alarm clock or cell phone next to the door. Out frustration we called the main desk Sunday am but the front desk said we could switch rooms.., they isn't seem to offer to help move our things ... At check out the next morning I explained the situation again was assured they were not aware any of the rooms had an issue and a manager would email me. Which never happened. Expectations were not met and definitely not exceeded. Location was great, but I could've gotten a better experience from a chain hotel and saved money, freebies of breakfast and drinks/snacks were of the chain hotel or less quality. TV was the first flat screen display TV invented and was my enjoyable to eatch anything on. The hotel definitely takes short cuts to save money and maximize their profit. Seems like they really need to be downgraded from a 4 star hotel it is 2.5 at best. The lobby staff was very friendly. That and the location were the only good aspects. I would not return to this hotel again. Especially since the manager never emailed me as promised. The 4 star hotel I was hoping to take my sister to for her birthday... Was a let down. They shouldn't be allowed to rent that room. The noise level was unbearable - I would've complained sooner but had no idea that the noise wasn't from a guest it was from poor planning - it should've been a storage closet.

So-so
Upon entering the hotel I had high hopes for my stay. It is a great decor. The staff at the registration desk were very helpful for my entire stay. The rooms were just rooms. Mine was mcuh smaller than I expected especially with a king size bed. Also I had to call for an ironing board since it was missing. The bath products are by Aveda and are great. I really enjoyed having breakfast available every morning and with great choices--I love cake donuts! I didn't get a chance to experience the cocktail hour. My friend and I arrived a little after 7pm and were told in a not so friendly way that it was over even though the room was full of people and things were just starting to be put away :-( The hotel is very convient to a lot of things including great shopping, bars, the trains and CTA. Its a nice hotel but its a toss up on whether I would stay there again. Overall it was an ok stay.

Right around the corner from the hotel is a restaurant named "Rockit Bar and Gril" on Hubbard. The burger there was named the best in the nation by GMA and when you have it you know why! Try it with the sweet potato fries.

Great Location, but $$$$
The parking was very pricey, but everything downtown is. The staff was super friendly. The continental breakfast was not very good; it was a complete mess and no one came up to give our floor more coffee.. The beds were very comfortable but the room was small.. for $300, I expect more

I liked the location, the staff and style of the hotel. But beds were uncomfortable and the climate control fan runs 24/7 with no way to disable.

Great Location
The Amalfi Hotel was located within a couple of blocks of almost everything that we wanted to see, very convenient. Harry Carray's directly across the street, Sullivan's around the corner with food and drink until 5am and Howl at the Moon in the next block. The 5-7pm Cocktail Lounge was quite nice as was the breafast and coffee in the morning. I did have a slight run-in with the man in charge of valet parking at check in. I didn't remember him giving me a valet ticket for my car so later when I tried to retrieve my car, he was a bit abrupt with me and argued with me about the ticket. I did eventually find the ticket and get the car but I could tell he was not happy with me at all, even two days later when I saw him again. All in all, I would stay again at the hotel, keeping in mind exactly where my valet ticket is.

Great location
The Amalfi was very modern, with great personal service. Our room was average in size, and the bathroom was very large. I do wish there had been another sink outside the bathroom (it would have made it easier to get ready in the morning). A continental breakfast on each floor of the hotel and an afternoon Happy Hour made the hotel a good value. The Happy Hour did have a limited time (5:30 - 7:00), so my friend and I missed it on the first day. The location was only a few blocks to Michigan Ave shopping and the House of Blues was 1 block away. Would definitely stay there again if I were in Chicago. The only issue was the phone on the nightstand was never fixed (I would keep getting a busy signal).

Great "girls" getaway
This was a very nice hotel. Clean, and well maintained. Within walking distance to many great shops and restaurants. Our concierge hailed a taxi for us and recommended attractions. Wish there would have been a bar/lounge rather than just the 5-7 cocktail hour in a conference room.

Great Hotel!
This was my first vacation to Chicago and it was great! The weather was great for the unpredictable Spring time. The Amalfi was a very clean hotel. The rooms had ample space. The bed was one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. Location was very good, but it would've been nicer to be a little closer to Michigan Avenue. It's not a far walk though! It's close to Rockit Bar and Grill, which has GREAT food! The whole staff was very helpful and nice. The contemporary and sleek style of the hotel is very welcoming. Elevators are quick. The televisions are nice, but they take a while to turn on and for channels to change. The iPod alarm clock is nice to have. I was happy that we were able to check in early.
