Ruined birthday surprise

This was my sister's 30th birthday surprise. I had booked 3 nights at another 4 star hotel, but switched . I switched and paid more money thinking I'd be getting an upgrade... The pictures shown are completely misleading and the amenities are not accurate. I was embarrassed the moment we stepped in the lobby...aka hallway with two desks. I was expecting a 4 star hotel. Nothing about it was luxurious. 1. Business center was a computer on a counter with no chair that had a temporarily out of service sign 2. Free breakfast were pre packaged bagels wrapped individually 3. The room was dingy, old, and had the first LCD tv to come out in the room. 4. The absolute worst, Worst part was ... We were put in the room above the parking garage. Alllllllll Hours of the day and night were ruined spent in our room trying to sleep or rest by the loudest beeping noise every time the garage opened. The alarm that sounded also buzzed and vibrated our room, making it impossible to sleep in. We had called down And complained on the second day because we did not know our room was directly above a garage bc surely no hotel would be place a room above something so obnoxious .... We had thought the walls were very thin and the next room had a very loud alarm clock... They weren't apologetic or overly concerned when we called about the neighbor. Hours later they called and said oh it's just the garage... I expressed my dissatisfaction to the front desk at checkout. The guy seemed irritated I was bothering him And gave me a scrap piece of paper and told me to write my name and number...and he would have his manager call. I NEVER got any sort of call and I am sure they continue to put guests in that room. Surely i am not the only guest to experience this.... I can only imagine these types of posts are deleted. I am extremely unhappy w the service and room I got. The clerk seemed like he was being condescending toward me because I had not books directly through the hotel.

Amalfi Hotel

I stayed in room 215 on Sunday March 17, 2013. The floor lamp by the window was destroyed. I turned it on and quickly unplugged is due to the risk of fire. The sink in the bathroom would not drain. One would have to hold their finger in the water to prop open the drain plug to empty the bowl. Way under expectations for the price and location.

Pretty good hotel

I liked the location, the staff and style of the hotel. But beds were uncomfortable and the climate control fan runs 24/7 with no way to disable.

Great Location

The Amalfi Hotel was located within a couple of blocks of almost everything that we wanted to see, very convenient. Harry Carray's directly across the street, Sullivan's around the corner with food and drink until 5am and Howl at the Moon in the next block. The 5-7pm Cocktail Lounge was quite nice as was the breafast and coffee in the morning. I did have a slight run-in with the man in charge of valet parking at check in. I didn't remember him giving me a valet ticket for my car so later when I tried to retrieve my car, he was a bit abrupt with me and argued with me about the ticket. I did eventually find the ticket and get the car but I could tell he was not happy with me at all, even two days later when I saw him again. All in all, I would stay again at the hotel, keeping in mind exactly where my valet ticket is.

Great location

The Amalfi is a boutique hotel with no in hotel dining options. Breakfast is danish, coffee, yogurt served on each floor by elevators. Rooms are smallish but trendy in decoration. Ask for a room that doesn't face the brick wall. Great location by Michigan Ave, Millenium Park, River North area, 3 blocks from El.

Dinky

Very nice hotel, but the service (front desk) is in need of improvement. For the money spent, I feel that regardless of race, you should be treated equally. This we did not receive during our stay. No laundry facilities, and the continental breakfast was mediocre, mundane, blah.

Please let us know

The Almalfi was beautiful and the staff was so friendly. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet and its convience. Our concern was that we were given a handicapped room without our knowledge. The shower facilities and counter space in the bathroom were not to our liking. The robes and slippers that were provided were warm and comfy.
