Wonderful experience!

Staff: Top notch and very friendly. We were always greeted when coming or going. They remembered our faces, which gave a personal touch.. Doors opened, cabs hailed, luggage assisted, questions answered. Amenities: Their gym was a nice surprise. There are about 5 hi-tech quality treadmills that have iPhone docks, flat screen TVs attached, and all of the bells/whistles. They also had a few eliptacles, several free weights, and one of those large combo weight systems that have pulleys, bars, etc... The shelves always had clean towels. This hotel isn't huge, so we were expecting some run down equipment. We got the opposite. Loved the breakfast! They stock each floor with a large table of different items every morning. A few people in other reviews were upset about the lack of eggs/bacon/sausage, but my wife and I were very pleased with the selection, especially the healthy options and it was free! If you want eggs/bacon/etc... then walk a few blocks to a diner. You can expect the hotel to provide donuts, english muffins, croissants, bagels, cereal, fruit, yogurt, coffee, tea, and more. Also, the staff were very quiet when stocking. Our room wasn't that far from the elevator and we never heard anything.. which leads me to Rooms: Our king bed room was your typical hotel room. It was cozy and gave plenty of space to my wife and I. The bed was also comfortable. I thought the rooms were well insulated, as we hardly ever heard anything. The one exception was what sounded like a "bro party" that showed up on our last night around 3am. Lots of male whooping and hollering and occasional bang on the wall. Just as I was about to phone the front desk, the noise stopped. But honestly, they had to have been really loud. We've stayed in hotels where people carrying casual conversation can be heard. We have also stayed in hotels where you can hear the door slam every time someone enters/exits their room. That's another positive on the rooms. The doors don't slam. They catch right before shutting and slowly move to a closed position. Our room had a flat screen TV but we rarely used it. The iPhone dock/alarm/radio was a nice touch and really helpful, especially since I had forgotten my charger cable. My wife really enjoyed the bathroom to get ready in. She commented that the lighting and mirrors were great, the hair blower worked really well, there was plenty of space, and the dual shower head was fantastic. The View: We had a king room on the 5th floor. The view was better than I had expected. We could see several towering buildings, including the John Hancock. This hotel building isn't a skyscraper, so don't expect sweeping views of the city. We weren't concerned with the view, as we knew we would be out and about most of the day. There was a building directly across from ours and our room basically came parallel with its rooftop. But really it was better than I thought. I fully expected to look out of the window straight into a brick wall. Honestly I wouldn't have cared though. Location: I felt like the location was perfect. Even in the 20 degree weather, we walked almost everywhere. Its about a 0.5 mile walk to Millennium Park, and a 0.5 mile walk to shopping. There are a lot of restaurants and pubs that are right across the street. The Trump International tower is about a 2 min walk. There's also a few grocery stores in walking distance. We walked to buy some bottled water and it was really easy. If walking isn't your thing, we thought the cab fare was reasonable. Overall, our stay was very enjoyable and I really feel like this hotel played a large role in that. We want to visit the city again in the spring, and the Amalfi will be at the top of my list.

great location, clean, modern

The Amalfi hotel looks expensive when you walk in to the lobby and while in your room but it was very affordable. It was clean and located in a great location. The staff very courteous. It didn't have a pool or a hotel restaurant but they have a lounge with a great( and free!) evening cocktail gathering with a an excellent spread. The take-out/room service is from Harry Carrey's (which is right across the street!) For those parents out there, there wasn't many kids and it doesn't have that kid feel to it. We would stay there again.

Comfortable Accomodations

The room was clean but a little smaller than normal. The continental breakfast was very convenient and good. It added to the value of our stay. Little longer walks to attractions than anticipated.

Great for a week-end in the city

The hotel is very near Michigan Avenue, Millenium Park, and all the downtown Chicago attractions. The new Trump Tower is right across the street. The complimentary breakfast was a great way to start our day. The complimentary happy hour was an added bonus and a great way to unwind after a day of shopping. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. We were able to check into our room early, which was wonderful. I will stay at the Amalfi again and I plan to recommend it to friends.

Great Hotel

This hotel was in a great location for bars and restaurants. The train was only a few blocks away and Michigan Ave was 2 blocks away. There is no restaurant in the hotel but the evening cocktail hour and breakfast in the morning are great. The room was clean and what I expected. I would highly recommend this hotel for the price and location and will certainly stay there again when returning to Chicago.

Great for attending professional meeting and seeing city attractions

With its superb location, excellent accommodations, generous breakfast and happy hour, attentive staff, reasonable cost, cozy smallness, this hotel is destined to develop a stellar reputation. I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else in downtown Chicago.

Friendly, Quiet Boutique Hotel

The Amalfi was a great choice with Large comfortable rooms, clean large bathrooms and a sitting area. I liked the fact that a continental breakfast was set up on each floor by the elevators. The staff was very helpful with dinner suggestions, getting a taxi and any of our needs. This hotel is right in the center of downtown chicago..walking distance to the theater district, walking distance to the Navy Pier and Millineum park, The Magnificent Mile of shopping and many others! We will be staying there again!

Great boutique hotel in the heart of the city

I look for good value when I shop for a hotel and the Amalfi Hotel fit our needs. The room was spacious, and the beds were comfortable. A continental breakfast was available each morning, and a cocktail reception, with hearty appetizers, was offered each evening. Lighting is important and bedside reading lights, desk lights, and good light from the window were more than adequate. Location in the River North area was a pleasant surprise, since we didn't know the layout of Chicago. Easy walking to State Street and great shopping, and an abundance of terrific restaurants within walking distance. The CTA red and orange lines are 2 blocks from the hotel, so that provided easy access from Midway Airport, and to family in northwest Chicago. I'd stay at this hotel again.
