Great stay overall. Valet parking was $49. It was already known, but a bit over priced in my opinion.

Birthday Celebration
I took a getaway trip to celebrate my 50th birthday and decided I would go to Chicago. I saw this hotel on the internet and just had to stay there. It was smaller than the one advertised, but still very nice. The staff were really cordial & helpful. Although it was a week after my actual birthday, I was surprised on my first night stay with a heartshaped cheesecake and birthday card from the front desk representative that checked us in. My only complaint was we arrived early & had to wait approx. 2 hours past check-in to get in our room and the view was for sore eyes. Luckily they are located blocks from the shopping centers and we were able to pass the time away.

Great for the money
Service and staff friendly, accomodating and efficient. Room amenities very nice - even loaner umbrellas. Loved the free cocktail parties.. Fifteen minute walk to nearly everywhere. Wouldn't stay anywhere else in Chicago. Only thing missing was a hot tub.

Over Rated...
It was rated 4 stars plus... I do not think so... It is located in a nice area close to the river with restaurants, bars and shopping. The hotel as a stand alone has much to be desired. Other places downtown are more appealing to me personally.

Nice hotel
The size of the hotel room was comparable to other 4-star hotels in the Chicago area, and the bathroom had a large marble countertop to spead out all your products. The location was good (just a few blocks west of N. Michigan Ave and near Merchandise Mart). I liked the complimentary breakfast offered on each floor every morning. They had fruit, cereal, juice, coffee, tea, etc. The only thing that was disappointing was that the front desk said that a late check-out on a Monday was not available.

Madonna in Chicago Weekend
My husband and I flew into Chicago on a Thursday morning, took the L from Midway airport to State and Lake and walked to the Almalfi. Check in was fast and staff was attentive. The guy who checked us in asked what we were in town for and we said Madonna, the singer. My husband joked that we knew her and later the guy sent us up a bottle of wine with a little note joking that it was because we knew Madonna. I am not sure if everyone gets a little bottle of wine, but it sure made us laugh and feel like special guests. Everyone that works here acts that way, they tell you "Welcome Back" each time you return from outings. We were able to get tickets to a comedy show and restaurant reservations from the staff as well. The 5th floor has the work out room, and that is the floor we were on, facing Kinzie Street. I think you would want to be on the 5th of 6th floor if possible. The 6th floor has a manager's reception each night, which was a nice touch. We had a few drinks, but never were hungry enough to try the snacks, which were meats, breads, veggies and dips. We also did not take advantage of the breakfast in the morning, which are put out on each floor across from the elevators. We were out too late the nights before. We stayed 3 mights and will definately recommend this hotel and would stay here again on a trip to Chicago. We took a boat tour that we caught just by the Wrigley building, only a couple of blocks away, it was a tour or the buildings on the river, which was very informative. Of couse our highlight was the Madonna concert. We took a cab to United Center, about $10 without tip. When the concert was over there were no cabs close by and you need to walk a few blocks to get to them. Not being from the area we took one of the "Bike Taxi's", basically guys who ride you in a bike carriage. We should have asked the guy how much it would be to get us to where the cabs were, we did not, and when he got us there, maybe 3 or 4 blocks, he charged us $20! And we are not large people so it was not because he had to carry extra weight or anything. We would have walked but my husband had blisters on his feet cuz he was weaing new boots. So just beware if you are going to try this mode of transportation, just find out the price first. We also enjoyed a trip to a ball game at Wrigley Field, well worth it. We took the subway #red line# only costing $2.25 a person to go one way. Took our touristy photos in and of the field, watched the game and then walked around "Wrigleyville" for a bit. We visited the bar "Howl at the Moon" and suggest if you go that you go early to get a table. It was very crowded when we got there and we had to stand, which is not bad if you don't mind that. The entertainment was worth it. We danced a little on the small dance floor. Had great omlettes at Eggsperience, only about 4 blocks North of the hotel on Dearborn. This hotel had a great
