The belle of Chicago's theater district
When Broadway shows comes to town, the Hotel Allegro Chicago, a Kimpton Hotel, is the first place that comes to mind for lodging. The Cadillac Palace Theater sparkles as brilliantly as its marquee with tasteful rooms in the heart of the Loop. Theatrical drama comes to life in every corner, including the lobby’s three-story staircase where a baby grand piano sits against a bright palette of reds, oranges and greens. Business travelers find its location equally attractive -- it’s just a few blocks from the Board of Trade and Mercantile Exchange.
Highlights
  • In the heart of the Loop near State Street, financial district and Magnificent Mile
  • Broadway shows on site at the Cadillac Palace Theater
  • Evening wine hours hosted in hotel’s living room
  • In-room spa services and Aveda bath products

Features
The Hotel Allegro Chicago may have been built in 1932, but its policies have evolved with modern times. Today, its green practices mean no plastic or Styrofoam cups are used, all meeting documents are printed on recycled paper and cleaning products are all eco-friendly.

Best Location, free wine, hip decor

We saw every museum and landmark building. Architecture tour and the Billy Goat Tavern and Hot Dougs a must! The hotel was quiet and friendly. We were up every night til 2am and up in the morning by 9:00am. Free Coffee would have been nice (like the sister Hotel Monaco has)

The Bad and the really ugly

The restaurant food was very expensive and not very good. The room were exceptionally small. there were no dressers in the room. No coffee pot or teas. The TV only had numbers you had to call the desk to find out where cbs and abc was. The clock radio you had to call the engineer to show you how to work it. I travel a lot and this and the holiday inn are my least favorite.

Unbeatable location for the price

Came to town with my brother and dad for a cubs game. Great location to see the city. The room was a little small but very clean.

Fantastic Hospitality and Service

By far, the quality of service the staff provides is top notch! They made our stay so enjoyable. We told them we were celebrating a special occasion, so they spared no expense at making us feel special with excellent concierge service and fun perks. [...], the concierge, is fabulous! The staff really makes you feel like you are very important to them, and it was largely because of them that our stay was so enjoyable! The rooms are a tad small, but we never felt cramped. The ammenities (IPod player, flat screen tv, nice toiletry products) were an excellent touch! The complimentary wine hour nightly from 5-6 is a nice touch and the staff mingles with the guests, which made us feel like they got to know us. Although the hotel is in the business area, nothing was too far to walk to. We found some great restaurants and bars a few blocks away on Hubbard street. Millenium park was about a 15 minute walk from our hotel. We walked almost everywhere that we only used a cab three times during our weeklong stay. The hotel is so close to the Chicago river which made for wonderful romantic walks at night. Weekday mornings offered several breakfast spots to choose from - ther were several Corner Bakeries within two blocks of hotel. The only negative was that on Saturday and Sunday it was hard to find a breakfast place that was open. Any time we come back to Chicago, we will make sure to stay at the Hotel Allegro, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great and affordable hotel!

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Take the train in from the airport to the hotel (the train station is 3 blocks from the hotel). It is only $2.25 per person and takes about 45 minutes, but will save you a ton compared to taking a taxi. Also, the Encore bar downstairs from the hotel does weekday drink specials that are awesome (great margaritas for 5 dollars on Fridays!), so it is totally worth checking out! Also, off Hubbard (about 6 block walk over the river) there were two great bars that were really affordable and unique- (1) Bull and Bear and (2) Theory

Good Time, Great Location

I had no need for assistance from the staff, above the usual stuff. I would have preferred free internet. The location was close to The El, which I used frequently.

Fine hotel, so-so location

There's nothing wrong with the hotel itself. The decor is tasteful, even if it may not be to everyone's taste. The elevator has an eclectic non muzak-based soundtrack which is a nice change of pace. I liked the hotel's choice for the complementary shampoo, conditioner as well. Yet the location of this hotel in the northwest corner of the Loop is not ideal for several reasons. This side of the Loop may be nicer than the eastern side, but not by much. Most nearby restaurants and stores are closed by 6 on weeknights, and closed outright on weekends. So it's good that this hotel is close to two different L stops, as you might need to ride the rails to get a decent place to eat after hours. Of course, you get what you pay for. What this hotel lacks in location, it makes up with its fine decor.

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Walk a block and a half to Clark/Lake if you are going north of the Loop on the Blue or Brown lines. Otherwise, walk a block to Washington/Wells if you are going south of the Loop on the Green, Orange or Pink lines.

Great location and service

Good experience except on one occasion the printer was not working for your boarding passes. When I went back, the front desk people said it was working but did not tell that the printer was tied to a certain computer. I inputed my info only to find out that I used the wrong computer. So I had to do it again on the right computer. The counter person should have told me or they should have the correct computer marked for "Boarding Passes".
