I traveled to Chicago by myself, so it was important to me that my hotel was in a central and safe area. All reviews that ... I've read were very accurate about this hotel. It is very clean, staff are very friendly, it is centrally located and walking distance to all major sites, shopping malls or tour buses. It's around the corner from the Magnificent Mile and the Hancock. I was able to go home late at night and always felt safe because it's so central and safe around the area. My room was beautiful and spacious. I had a double bed, the air-conditioning worked perfectly and the bathroom was clean and modern. Breakfast is pricey but worth the money I think and the service was outstanding. The hotel deducted $5 from my deposit in the end without notifying me but I don't really mind as I was really happy with my room and the service. The room I had was a million times better than what I'd get at a 4 or 5 star hotel in Europe. I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely go back!

1 block from Water tower place and michigan avenue. Next door to Gino's EAst pizza and next to that is Neiman Marcus. A ... paradox but great. Great shopping, Polo Store and restaurant attached was superb. C-House restaurant had great and interesting food. C-view lounge on top of the hotel was a real treat. No need to go to Hancock when you've got this. No travel required. Friendly staff and Aveda amenities. Great view of Chicago architecture and skyline. A+

Beware of this Hotel!
Don't stay at Affinia Chicago! Oct 14, 2009
[...] I travel to Chicago weekly and usually stay at the Intercontinental. Because I like the location of this hotel, I ... decided to give it a try. Two days ago, I was sitting at the gate for my flight from Atlanta to O'Hare when I received a call from my two year old's day care. She had fallen down and hurt herself pretty badly and needed to be taken to the emergency room. I immediately went to the Delta counter and explained. They issued full ticket refund on the spot. I then called the Affinia Chicago and they initially said (front counter woman) that I could get a refund given the circumstances (which is what most trusted, respected and business oriented hotels would do - particularly for a customer who travels to Chicago weekly). But then they realized that since it was booked thru [...] that I would need to request the refund thru them. [...]

Our experience was great at the Affinia. Our only negative was that we enjoy a late snack after a long day of watching ... baseball or shopping. This was not available to us at this hotel. Other than that, we will definitely be back if the opportunity arises and the Suite we had was awesome as well. Great location, helpful staff, great housekeeping service as well. Only two blocks from the Red Line and only $40 from O'hare via a cab. No HD t.v. but that is just a nit picky thing for me.

GREAT location!
Happy Couple Aug 21, 2009
We really enjoyed our stay at Affinia. We read the reviews here before deciding where to stay. After our stay, we'd agree ... that most were fairly accurate. It was in an awesome location - for the subway, dining and shopping. The rooms were wonderful - quiet, clean and modern. Great HD TV! Of course, you are in DOWNTOWN Chicago - so you do hear sirens at various hours of the day/night. That's part of a BIG city! There is construction going on at a hospital addition next door, but noise ended by 5 pm. No problems with the AC or bathroom facilities - the shower was much more powerful than ours at home! It was very quiet on our floor. Never heard our neighbors. There were only 8 rooms on our floor, which made it seem like the hotel was smaller than it was. Probably the negatives were: VERY slow elevators (those reports are correct), pricey restaurant in hotel, no pool (but we knew that going in) and we couldn't seem to find out where to get ice. There was no ice machine on our floor and I guess we didn't call to find out where to get ice. Oh well, we survived. We would stay here again and are thinking of checking out their other locations in NYC and Washington.

It's about 5 blocks to the subway station from the hotel. Use the train to go to the airport. It didn't take us a lot longer to get out to O'Hare by using the train, but saved about $50 by not taking a cab. If you can walk the 5 blocks with your luggage, take the train. It's $2.25 one way.

hotel in convenient location. roof top bar was nice. staff was generally cordial. elevators are way too slow and not enough ... elevators. staff elevator was not working, so they took over one of two elevators for guest creating long line for room access. hotel does not abide by representation that pets would only be on designated floors; they are everywhere and barking. would not stay here again.

Superb Hotel Experience
Brooklyn chic Jul 17, 2009
My husband and I visited Chicago for a wedding on July 12. The bridal party had blocked several rooms at the Ambassador East, ... but we chose the Affinia after reading reviews. We were not disappointed. It was our best stay ever. From the time we got out of our cab the doorman's enthusiastic welcome really made us feel special. We later observed that this type of treatment extended to practically every staff member we encountered. Personal service warranted my five stars. Many of the days were cool so my husband did not miss the pool too much. I do not like to swim so it was not a problem for me. They do not have a gym but they supply a basket of equipment plus video for the exercise lover. However the service and location were so excellent that my pool addicted husband said he would not stay anywhere else when in Chicago. The experience was that good. I highly recommend the place. I gave it five stars in spite of the pool and gym absence because our total experience was five star. We have been to five star hotels and were not catered to as much as the Affinia.

Wonderful Bed- Unbeatable Service
Angie Jul 13, 2009
The Affinia was about 5 blocks to the train station and conveniently located to many upscale shops and restaurants. The bed ... was really comfortable and the concierge ([...]) was outstanding. He gave us tickets to events that were going on and gave really good advice on where to go eat and hang out for some drinks. The service was really fantastic and well worth the price to stay. We could not have asked for better accommodations. Loved it!

Most of the restaurants close to the Affinia are very upscale and very expensive. If you are able to walk a few (maybe 10) blocks to get out of the area, there are some good local places for people on a budget. We found a great little pizza place not far from the hotel called Eduardo's. Inexpensive, delicious, cute atmosphere, and friendly service. I think they also deliver.

THE LOCATION: Located just one block from the Magnificent Mile, the Affinia is in a perfect location for sightseeing, ... shopping, nightlife and dining. For the health nuts, Whole Foods is a just a few blocks away. Also, Walgreens is convienently located around the corner where you can stock up on snacks and beverages. THE GYM: The gym at the Affinia is fantastic, with up-to-date equipment, but you have to use a little muscle to enter and exit the gym since the door handle gets stuck. THE C LOUNGE: AVOID the roof top bar unless you like overpriced cocktails and poor service. Well they give good service to certain patrons and ignore others. THE ROOM /THE HOUSKEEPING: I found the Jr. Suite to be very comfortable, but it was dusty behind the couch and on some of the fixtures. Also, on one of the four nights I stayed at the Affinia, the housekeeper came very late in the afternoon to clean the room. Overall, it was a pleasant stay. 3 1/2 Stars.

Skip the cab from the airport and catch the train instead for only $2.25 and it lets you off just a few short blocks from the hotel.

the roof top bar is a great place to hang out at night, its crowded but the atmosphere is cool. a bit pricier, but what do you really expect from a hotel bar on the roof? There are also many clubs and bars in downtown a few blocks away from the hotel, if you dont want to walk a few blocks, you can just grab a cab, its not worth much since youre really not moving far.
