You get what you pay for!
The good news... this wasn't the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. The front desk staff was very nice, and the room was large. The bad news... the room was so outdated and smelled, the beds were way too soft (could have been more firm), and the bathroom was very nasty. There weren't even tissues or soaps in the room... maybe you had to ask for them, but you shouldn't have to in any hotel! Also, the hotel was a little out of the way.

the good (almost) and the bad
booked it as a place to sleep en route to Grinnell Iowa. Nothing to do there.

Mexican resturant on the square downtown was cheap and good. Big Ed's Bar B Que is great--also downtown on square.

good location for the money
Room airconditioner was not working, called front desk, MGR came right away and fixed problem. Very friendly, we were leaving, and not returning until very late, He stated that when we got back to call him if the air was not working, he would give us another room. Lucky for both of us everything was fine. One of the best restraunts in the midwest is right next door.

Try the pepper tree next door, for the best steaks and seafood.

Needs remodeling
Management has just changed at the hotel. I hope the new manager has the money to do an extensive remodeling and improvement of the complex. The road has potholes. The bathroom stool was so close to the wall a large person couldn't sit on it normally as the toilet dispenser was in the way. It needs painting inside and out. The good points were that the manager was friendly and he added a continental breakfast. The price was low.

Short drive from hotel
It is near enough (14 miles) from Pella, IA. When the Tulip Festival is going and the hotels in Pella are full this is a nice alternative.
