The Historic Park Inn was designed by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright and completed in 1910. It is now the last Wright designed hotel in the world. It has undergone a complete renovation including restoration of the distinctive brick and terra-cotta facade and the art glass windows.

Disappointing

For advertising as a boutique hotel and uniqueness of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture, the breakfast was really a letdown and more comparable to what you would find in an Econo Lodge. In addition, there was no one around to service the breakfast. Some of the rugs in the corridors were very dirty, even considering the bad weather. There were a lot of unique social spaces, but this makes the hotel very "chopped up." The only reason I would stay here would be for the Frank Lloyd Wright architecture.

A pleasant surprise

I ended up at this hotel after a snow storm cause me to pull off the road. It was a wonderful experience. It's not a very big hotel but it is well worth a stay if you are in the area. The staff, and I mean everyone I came in contact was very friendly and helpful. I had dinner in the bar area of the restaurant that evening. I ordered a duck breast and mushroom risotto which was the special and it was delicious. A very pleasant surprise. I was as happy with the service there as with the rest of the hotel service.

Quick stay

Very nice hotel, good experience. Breakfast and amenities were lacking, but good location with nice history behind it. Luckily reserved this room for cheaper than its usual rate.

Family Thanksgiving

We asked for a queen room with a queen pull out sofa for me, husband and 2 children. The room was very small. Felt like we were climbing all over each other. Sofa was no where near queen size when pulled out. More like a full size bed.

Over night in Mason City

I chose this hotel because of the historic values and the convenient down town location. It did not disappoint. I was spending one day and one night in Mason City as sort of a "down memory lane" trip as I grew up in MC many years ago.

Great historic hotel!

We loved the hotel! Staff was friendly at check-in and our room was beautiful! The bed and bedding were comfortable and plush, the bathroom was modern and immaculate and the lighting was great. The view off of the second floor balcony overlooking the park was wonderful. We were able to enjoy coffee sitting out there and the nice breeze made it perfect for a summer morning. Mason City has some really nice restaurants, right near the hotel. Very quaint downtown area!

Overnight business trip stay

The staff were very nice and helpful. I arrived late and the kitchen stayed open so I could have a meal. The food delicious and the beverage selections were excellent. The hotel is older and I had some trouble feeling either a little too cold or a little two warm. My room was very nice. I especially enjoyed seeing the wonderful detail of Frank Lloyd Wright in the furniture, furnishings and decor in the modernly equipped rooms. Finding a place to park can be tricky but that's more of a Mason City thing than the hotel.

Beautiful historic hotel

I stayed for a week at this hotel while attending a conference. The building itself is so interesting. The open areas and library were beautiful. It is right across from a city park and feels as if you are in another era. That being said the room was very comfortable and the lighting fixtures and bathroom fixtures fit the style of the building but were very up to date. They have a light continental breakfast for guests which I did utilize one morning. Otherwise there was a coffeemaker in the room. I made use of the business center. My iPad did not like the wi-fi that the hotel provided (for some reason) and so I had to make use of the desktop provided in the center. That being said....I will be back! I loved the ambiance of the place.

Mason City has another Frank Lloyd Wright building not far from this hotel. They have a quaint park with a steam engine in it and the Music Man area is fun. Several good restaurants and Clear Lake is very close. Great place to take the family.

The Wright Place to stay

If you're a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright, you will love being here. Everything is authentic Wright--from the horizontal lines to the earth tones to the fixtures and windows. Be sure to have dinner in the 1910 Grille and enjoy some quiet time in the beautiful sitting room off the lobby.
