mediocre
Staff is friendly but the rest of the hotel is mediocre or, in the case of the location, just plain bad. It is on the outskirts of town as you enter Fort Dodge and no shopping or other facilities (save for the Cellar Restaurant) are nearby. My impression was that it was geared more to business travelers than those on leisure.

Short walk from hotel
The Cellar Restaurant across the street has probably the best dining in Fort Dodge. The pork chop was extraordinary, much better than the one I had at Mineral City Restaurant a couple of nights later.

50th Reunion Weekend
My wife and I recently stayed at the AmericInn in Fort Dodge and had a very nice stay. Room was nice, clean and in an easy to get to location, being close to the elevator. The small bar next to the front desk was a hoot (60's decor) and with buy one-get one free, a nice surprise. (Don't know if this is an everyday thing or if it was just because there were so many reunion folks staying there). The staff were excellent - very nice and friendly. Next time we visit Fort Dodge we will definitely stay at AmericInn!

Family weekend
We came up to see some family and booked this hotel for its low price. The room was spotless with no stains. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpfull. They have a complimentrary breakfast with hot food that was great. Our only complaint would be that our key did not work in the end door.

Pros & Cons
The TV would not turn on , which they were aware of, our room did not get cleaned while we were away, so we had to ask for more towels. I got over charged for my room, it was different than what I reserved it for. But overall, the staff was exceptionally friendly, which can make all the difference...and did! Thanks

Room was dirty and smelled bad
I asked for a non-smoking room and it was confirmed by the hotel. When I arrived they gave me a very dirty smelly smoking room. I asked for another room and they said that they would try to get me into another room. While I was waiting a young woman came in without a reservation and was given a non smoking room. I slept that night with the window open and the door to the hallway open just to create a draft of fresh air. I have never spent a night in such filth. The coffee maker still had grounds from the previous guest. The bath tub was dirty. When I turned down the bed the sheets were stained. I reported all of this and then second night I had a spotless room that was not smoking. I will never stay there again. I think the problem was management and supervision. I think there was no quality control. The complimentary breakfast was very low quality. I am a celiac and cannot eat grains. I could have coffee but they ran out and I did have a glass of orange juice. The hard boiled eggs were frozen solid.

Home away from home.
I think that this is the best motel I've stayed at for the price. The room was very quiet; ideal for great sleeping. The bed and the pillows are more comfortable than my own. The continental breakfast, was one of the high lights. Great variety, and you can even make your own fresh waffles. I would DEFINITELY stay here again!
