Not as Special As I'd Hoped

We were looking for a romantic get away while traveling through Des Moines. We chose this hotel for it's fireplace suites and proximity to some dining options that interested us. It's a very nice hotel, tastefully done - although some areas are starting to look a little rough around the edges due to age. The front desk staff was fine, but not exceptional. The room was large, clean and comfortable. Bathroom equally large, clean and accommodating. It wasn't a bad stay, it just didn't seem "special" - like a place you want to keep coming back to. Overall, it was a little pricey for what it was. It's not "gone", but it's lost its luster.

Great for business stay

I stayed for one night for business. Check in was prompt and courteous, room was much larger than typical hotel rooms. Easy access to skywalk system to get to shopping, business meetings, etc. Parkade directly across street (for cost). Was not able to take advantage of spa\fitness center on this trip, so am not able to comment on that. Rate was very comparable to other hotels in area.

Great Hotel

Nice hotel. Large room, very clean, very friendly. The drapes did not close so too light inside of room. I was charged ten dollars more than what I had agreed to online.

Great hotel in the middle of downtown

This hotel is in a great location in downtown Des Moines, an easy to walk to everything in the downtown. Initially I was a little concerned about the parking situation, because the hotel does not have parking onsite. However, I found that the meters are not enforced on weekends and the the parking garage across the street allowed you to park there for free. The rooms at the hotel were nice, clean and bigger than I was expecting. It was really quiet at night and you couldn't hear anything from other rooms which was nice. They also have a nice full service breakfast every morning that provided a great selection. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

What you would expect for Des Moines, IA

Stayed for State Fair. Location was great and parking is easy to find on the weekend. Paid $5 for overnight parking directly across the street. Front desk staff was friendly and attentive. Our room was very comfortable and clean. Breakfast in the morning beats any other "continental breakfast" that you find in chain hotels, hands down. The omelette chef was great! Would stay again if the rooms were priced appropriately.

Full breakfast is provided, but get there before 9. The food was almost cleared out on Sunday by 9:30. Otherwise, was very tasty!

too expensive

Wonderful place, but not twice as good as other high quality hotels. The price needs to come into line with the market. This is downtown Des Moines, not Honolulu.

Fun couple get away

We loved the feel surrounding us but the parking was difficult or at best unclear as we arrived. The signs say NO parking right in front so we drug our luggage & provisions from a parking ramp, not easy and frustrating for us!! The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful as we spoke our complaint. Told us we could park in front but that is not clear to you if you are there the 1st time. Not sure we'd stay again just for convenience sake. A lot of money for the location and parking. As it was extremely gorgeous out, walking wasn't an issue but otherwise, not as great a location as we'd liked.

Great location!!

We were in town for a wedding and wanted to stay somewhere downtown and close to everything. There are bars within walking distance, and more only a short taxi ride away. There is a parking garage across the street, which is free on the weekends. The hotel also offers valet parking for $20. The room was bigger and nicer than I expected! I would definitely stay here again!!!
