once yearly

Always stay here for DMMO weekend. Centrally located to visit DM Art Center, Valley Junction or near East Side and only 25 minutes to Indianola.

Could be better

The staff were great. The room left a lot to be desired. The toilet plugged, the tub drained slow and the bathroom door was coming off the hinge. We did alert the front desk to these issues.

Great location, great experience

The staff was friendly, willing to help out. The shuttle was extremely helpful, even though we were only a few blocks from the 4th & Court area. This is a great place to stay if you are looking for good nightlife and good food.

Not the best hotel

The floor was filthy, beds are small and mattresses not supportive at all. The WiFi on the 5th floor was totally useless. My wife asked for help and the only response she could get was that it connected automatically. No free breakfast. Walls are paper thin, we could here the occupants next to us coughing. No microwave, no fridge, TV is about ten years old. Unless you have to stay downtown and there's nothing else available, stay elsewhere.

Good location for us and enjoyed the historic hotel

We had a wonderful time, didn't know the music concerts were going on so a little noisy but its proximity to the fair grounds and under roof parking were great. The Goodguys car show was at the fairgrounds.

Charming

The Hotel Fort Des Moines is very charming and historical but has the potential to be incredible. I love the original woodwork and doors (down to the glass door knobs.) While some of the reviews I read said the rooms were outdated and needed redone, I liked the "old" feel to them. I would suggest replacing the faded bedspreads (one of the beds in our room had holes in the bed spreads) and perhaps shining up the floors in the lobby. Other than that, the room/hotel was clean and comfortable...very enjoyable!

Historic hotel with old rooms

The Fort Des Moines served our needs well. The room was large and comfortable, but looked like it hadn't been updated since the 1950's (carpet, bed, dresser, bathroom). While I appreciated the historic elements in the lobby, I would have preferred nicer furnishings in the room.

Great Stay

King room was very nice. TV and showerhead were dated but not a big deal. Update those and the rooms would compete with anything Downtown. Options for order-in food was appreciated and would be nice for guests not familiar to area. Great stay would book again.

Historic Hotel

This hotel was BEAUTIFUL!! I loved looking around and seeing the very well-kept building and architecture. The room was quaint, but it served it's purpose. I would recommend it! :)

We visited the Des Moines Farmers Market on Saturday morning. It's only about 5-6 blocks down the street-Very convenient as well as for everything else as well!
