I actually was able to get a room a couple days before we were going to Iowa...nothing was available, but then the Marriott opened up. We were amazed at what a NICE hotel it was. It was clean, quiet, and had wonderful amentities

We came from Pa. to attend the wedding of a family member and joined with other family members to celebrate. We also had an impromptu family gathering for breakfast at the hotel.

Marriott hotel stay
They were very accommodating, except that I had three people in a King room. The website did say king or 2 queens, but the hotel told me that all reserved 2 queen room were taken two days before our arrival. Other than the cramped quarters, they brought in a refrigerator at no additional charge. There was no option for a microwave at all.

The food is very good at the restaurant lounge, but do not go if you are in a hurry. They are extremely slow.

best place to stay in the area
The hotel is wonderful. The library of Iowa authors is fantastic. Also the extra $20 for a concierge floor room is worth every penney!!!

Got a reduced rate during my extended stay when my father was first admitted to U of Iowa hospital and then he passed away about a week later. And be sure to get enrolled in the Marriott Rewards Program!!

Expected more
The location is nice and quiet, not on a busy street. A lot of eating places were close by. The room was small. They forgot to remove the air compressor from our room. We had no frig or microwave. We had a non-smoking room, but a staff my have had a cig in there during the break. They left some ashes on the bed. But the hotel was quiet and the bed was comfortable. We got a good nights rest. The staff were really friendly and pleasant.

Great place to stay after a long drive and moving kids into the University of Iowa. Just what we needed.

Great and reasonably priced hotel
Enjoied a weekend stay in a nice room, while close to the highway still very well placed in a green environment, hosted several weddings and other groups while we stayed - great place for such events. The pool is very nice, has a nice library and great public space. Did not visit the resturant but heard that it is very fine. The best hotel in the area.

Interesting Hotel
The staff members were very friendly and helpful. The Iowa Writer's Library was interesting and impressive. The hotel was well kept and visually lovely. Our room had a a pretty view of the large patio on the water. There were events on the patio each night that we were there, but the noise from the events did not keep us awake (we were on the 4th floor). The room was a bit dark and was a good bit smaller than we expected. The bed linens were sumptuous and the bed was very comfortable. There was one upholstered arm chair and a desk type chair for the desk. The bathroom was a bit small, also. I liked that the interior doors had sandblasted glass inserts rather than being a solid wooden door, as it added to the overall architectural feel of the decor. The toiletries provided (soaps, lotions, etc.) were of boutique quality. We did not take a lap top computer with us; however, if we had, the desk and connections would have been more than adequate for use. There was an additional nightly charge to park in the hotel's parking lot (approximately $7 per night). The security for the hotel seemed well protected and was well lit. We did not eat in the dining area, as the prices seemed a bit expensive. Starbucks coffee was available for purchase in the dining area. The pool and recreational amenities seemed nice, but were also somewhat small. The soft drink machine did not offer Coca-Cola products, only Pepsi manufactured products. The location was fairly close to the highway on and off ramps. If we went back to that city again, we would definitely book another stay there, even with the small size, etc.

Dining tip:
Short drive from hotel
The Power Station Restaurant was a short drive from the hotel. The prices were a bit high, but the food was absolutely wonderful. It overlooks a river with a bridge.
