Does the job
Decent hotel, decent price, staff was exceptionally friendly. A minor down side was the comforter. The made bed looked horribly lumpy, only to find out it was the comforter. Did not deter from the overall quality of the stay.

Hampton Inn Ames 02/25/11
This was just a quick overnight, we were visiting Iowa State University. It would have been helpful to have a TV guide either on screen or in the room. The hotel was quiet and clean. Breakfast was mediocre, but free.

Had pizza from Great Plains Sauce and Dough and it was awesome! But takes 45 minutes for the pizza. Call ahead or have it delivered.

Great service
We arrived very early and needed to check in immediately to change our clothes and get to an important meeting. They found us a room and made it work, gave us a map to where we were going, and made us feel that we had great support.

The Hickory Park restaurant was amazing. Great barbeque and amazing ice-cream desserts. 1404 S. Duff. Our local hosts said it is a famous local spot. [@]

Very Clean and Comfortable
The rooms were exceptionally clean. They were also very quiet. I didn't hear any of my neighbors at all. The free breakfast was really good with great biscuits and sausage gravy and scrambled eggs. They also had toast, bagels, donuts, hot and cold cereal, caffienated and decaffienated coffee with hot water for the variety of teas. Check-in and out was easy and the staff was knowledgable about the area. The room was roomy, with a table-type desk, free WiFi, a refrigerator and microwave oven, a coffee maker with choice of coffees and tea, and a comfortable chair. The bathroom was very clean, with a wooden vanity...that was esthetically pleasing, but about 6 to0 tall for me at 5'4. The bed was king-size with a pillow matterss and a variety of large and small pillows that allowed me to adapt the bed to my sleeping comfort. All in all a very pleasant surprise.

Short drive from hotel
It is within a short drive of many dining facilities and the University of Iowa campus. This was at the time of the major floods in Iowa and the staff was able to tell me about the flood warnings and the safe travel possibilities in the area and I was able to leave the area safely without running into any flooded roads.
