Good value, but a bit loud from the nearby highways
I booked this hotel for my work colleague, and we were pleased with the overall value, cleanliness, the friendliness of the staff, and the location which is convenient to Des Moines and major highways. It is also within walking distance to at least 2 restaurants (especially the Big Steer which is a lovely and delicious slice of Americana) and has a free shuttle to the nearby casino complex where there are a few more restaurants. The room decor is a bit dated, but it's all clean and in good shape, so to me that's good enough for a budget hotel. The one downside is that at night the noise from the freeway traffic is a bit loud. But if travelers are used to that or bring earplugs, this is a great choice.

Go to the Big Steer restaurant. Even if you don't order beef (which is top-notch) it's a classic Midwest atmosphere, outstanding service, good quality, and delicious homemade bread delivered to your table.

If you don't care where you stay
Went to Adventureland stayed 1 night hotel was dirty, smelly, had light bulbs burnt out in our room. Refridgerator didn't work, whole place smelled like cigarettes. Didn't look like a good detailed cleaning had been done in years. The whole place needs to be updated. looks as though its falling apart.

Not worth the price you pay!
My husband & I chose this due to the room was decorated in the western theme & it matched perfectly to our wedding ceremony/reception theme. We just wanted to get away for a couple days to relax. The room that we stayed in was not clean. We had dead bugs laying all over the floor, which the front office had been notified about right away and when the housekeepers came to clean while we were gone, they still did not clean them. My husband had to go to front desk to tell them that it hadnt been cleaned properly.

Super Fun Trip
The hotel was very pleasant. My granddaughter had a wonderful time. I just wish we had the time to use the pool. We went to Adventureland and just ran out of time and steam! Overall we had a great time at the hotel too.

Disappointed!!
This was our 2nd time staying at this hotel while attending the races at the Iowa Speedway. While this hotel is older, I don't have a problem with that. What I have a problem with is cleanliness. The room was nice but the shower was filthy! It was very difficult to even get in it. There was a build up of nicotine and something brown splattered on the wall. There was also something on the wall outside the shower. There was little toilet paper on the roll, but there was a new roll on the vanity. There were also a couple of what looked like hair balls near the bed. Speaking of the bed, it was so uncomfortable and the sheets wouldn't stay on the mattress. The bed had dips and bumps and I woke up feeling achey and not rested. It wasn't worth the $100+ I had to pay for the room.
