Paradise

Spent 6 nights at the Wailea Beach Marriott with the family and were treated like royalty. The outdoor lobby is gorgeous and the landscaping & scenery all about are lovey. The rooms are tasteful, comfortable, and well-maintained and cleaned. Staff was courteous, friendly, and responsive. On-site kids pool & water play area was a blast for our 3 & 7 year olds and for mom & dad. Adult pools are luxurious though we stuck mainly to the family-oriented areas. Kids also loved feeding the fish in the koi pond & hitting the complimentary pog juice stand in the lobby. Beautiful beaches just a 2 or 3 minute walk from our room. Tons of activities can be arranged through the hotel - surfing, paddle boarding, snorkeling, diving, fishing, etc. Pool concierge scheduled a wonderful whale watching trip for us through a 3rd party outfitter & I enjoyed leaving the details up to them - all I had to do was pick up our tickets and show up. No extra charge to leave the planning up to them. They also provided great excursion advice, maps, etc. We had a 10pm flight out of Maui, hotel allowed us to check out at 1pm & store our luggage on site, remain at the hotel to enjoy the day at the pool, beach, etc & then shower and change in a hospitality room - no extra charge. Lots of shopping & dining nearby (much within walking distance), but keep in mind its a pretty upscale area so you'll need to drive 10-15 minutes into Kihei to get more moderately priced food, groceries, etc. If you have money to spare, lots of good options right around the hotel. My only complaint was an unexpected & mandatory $30 per day "activities fee" tacked onto our room rate. Not the first time I've paid what amounts to a tourist tax, but wish I'd known about it before getting a bill for the extra $180. Otherwise absolutely no complaints: fantastic accommodations, idyllic setting, well-trained & responsive staff. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Drive to nearby Kihei for more affordable food & family shopping. Hilo Hatties has reasonably priced souvenirs for the kids and Maui Tacos a few doors down has affordable & delicious fish tacos.

beautiful and relaxing honeymoon

The hotel is in such a fantastic location! We were overwhelmed by the beauty of the beach walk and sunsets. We walked every morning and evening, and spotted many humpback whales. Even though our room was a garden view room, we could plainly see the ocean from the table and chairs just outside. The room was very comfortable and the many pools (one with waterslides) were convenient. We enjoyed the open air concept of the hotel common areas and went to Starbucks a lot. We mostly went to Wailea Beach because it was closer to the end of the hotel where our room was located, but liked the lower-key vibe at Ulua Beach. Our only negative feedback on the hotel has to do with the resort fee, which essentially just covers parking and one free coffee (for the entire stay, not per day). It didn't even cover wireless internet, which is an additional $15 per day (yet free at most resorts). My husband was irritated by the way we were being 'nickeled and dimed." But, like I said, everything else was great. If the resort fee could be eliminated (and maybe worked into the price of the room) or at least include more, it'd be the perfect place to stay.

Kihei Caffe was recommended to us by a window washer at the Shops at Wailea as a reasonably priced breakfast spot. We loved it! It's located across from the beach, seating is outdoors, staff is friendly, and there's a wide variety of menu options.

The Mariott was not our favorite

Nice hotel- but doesn't allow you to step outside of the resort experience. It was not exactly a warm place to be. It was not bad, or even so-so. The property was beautiful and our room was nicely furnished, although the bed was exceedingly uncomfortable. Overall it was a good place, but nothing felt special. My wife and I felt like a number... on our honeymoon. Enough said.

Additional Location

Asked to have a room with a refrigerator and freezer, since we had frozen fish from a fishing trip. Were surprised to get a tiny refrigerator - no freezer.
