Great - after my room change...

When I checked in I was given a room on the 5th floor which had more of a view of the roof than the mountains. The front desk agent was wonderfully helpful and got me moved to a room on the 2nd floor with a garden view. It made my stay a completely different experience. The easy access to the beach was great, and provided respite from the families by the pool for this solo traveler.

Expensive but Nice

Cocktails were 16 dollars at the pool. The breakfast buffet cost 25. Though the food and drinks are excellent, you definitely pay for it. There is also a 25 dollar per day "resort fee" that give you access to daily activities, of which I saw none the entire time. Great beach, the shower temp fluctuated to extremes but other than that no complaints.

Nice Place, Great Location

Check in was smooth and easy. Had a choice of rooms upon check in, the first one on the ground floor had roaches outside the door and a couple in the room (building is open to outside, tropical) so I moved to a 6th floor room. Room was a good size, kind of tired and ready for a refresh though. Last refresh was likely a few years ago, bathroom was tired especially the bath/shower. Linens were good and crisp white, bed was comfy, and hotel was quiet. Overall room could have been cleaner, needed some detailing, it seems like a "quick clean" only. View is fantastic, beach is nice and a good location to explore the coast and other parts of the island from via car. Breakfast buffet was nice although quality of the fruit, especially the pineapple needs to improve. Coffee was weak. Parking was frustrating as it filled up every night, however they waived valet charge so just cost extra in tipping. Overall an acceptable hotel, only come for the room, do not expect a true four star carefree Resort experience, more like a three star.

Need a car

Very comfortable and room was spacious with fridge and coffee and tea making facilities. Bed was great. Lovely view and nice pool and beach area. Probably best to get a car to see this island as it is not easy to get around without. The hotel is walking distance from shopping centres and restaurants.

Enjoyed everything about my stay. The concierge service with Alli and Amy made the vacation even better. Just starting to see the world, so this review is from a nubee. Beds were very comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. Resort guest were very helpful with there local knowledge. Attended the Luau was not disappointed. Just have to recommend this resort if you visit the big island.

Fantastic value

Eighth time to Hawaii, first time to the Big Island. The Marriott is in a good location, near stores and a decent beach (for the Big Island). Very nice little rooms with modern furnishings (excepting the TV, for which I say -- Big deal, you are in Hawaii... go watch the sunset, not TV). Fun little bar with nightly drink specials. Restaurant was OK; they had half-off entree specials Mondays and Thursdays. Breakfast buffet was uneven, but all I need is a decent omelet and fresh pineapple and I am happy. The grounds are simply lovely, with a pathway through old lava and brackish pools teeming with fish -- spot the huge eel if you can. Pools were quite nice -- too many screaming kids, but that's the case with most resorts unfortunately. Staff were perfectly friendly. Best time is the evenings -- quiet music, fire pits, and amazing sunsets. Best thing about this place is the value -- for what you pay, you get a really good experience. It is not the Four Seasons, but neither is the price. I would happily go again.

All Round Perfect!

This hotel had the best deal for my 2 wk solo stay. Found people for my tennis game every day, and the Hotel had a decent gym for working out. Easy walking to the main markets(Queen & King) and restaurants as well as the Hilton. The grounds were beautiful, and nice beach access for swimming.
