Paniolo Greens
Relative low cost stay.... It's windy up there in Waikoloa Village and the sliding doors leaked and whistled all night. They also want to charge you and extra $5 a night if you want to use the air conditioner... That seemed a bit cheeky. Good things: great view of golf course, three blocks to supermarket, 6 miles to Waikoloa Beach and resort.

Our Big Island experience at Paniolo Greens Complex
Auust 2011 Our Big Island experience was fantastic! The Paniolo Greens condo/lodging complex at Waikoloa village was an excellent location for visiting Big Island attractions. Located near good beaches, resorts, Kailua-Kona city, and close to the airport. The complex sits away from main traffic routes. The spacious accommodations (two levels if you opt to take 2nd floor lodgings) and useful amenities (washer/dryer, full kitchen, LCD TV+informative programs) were all welcome additions. The spacious living room and the backside lanais (balconies) were nice! Everything was clean and fresh when we arrived. The views of the volcanoes were fantastic. The ocean was far (4-miles) but visible—a good thing too since there is a designated tsunami evacuation area and the hotel is outside that on higher ground. The room service was adequate and cleaning was pretty thorough. The service staff even put our dishes in the dishwasher (saving us time and effort). Very helpful staff for scheduling events (Luaus, submarines, etc., even though they push preferred venues). The beach-stuff renting service was convenient (needs a few more items and less worn out stuff) though a bit expensive for the quality. The AC option ($5 per day) is necessary in August. The morning breeze works only if you have both front and back open—but then flies and insects get in. The free running wild turkeys were a hit with the kids. All-in-all, the complex is well situated as long as you plan to get around by car. It is on the desert side of the island (lava beds, brown grass and few trees outside the well-watered resort complexes) and not close to the cultural attractions on the Hilo-city side. Getting to the rainy (pretty) side takes an hour or more depending on which route you take. The Saddle Road between the volcanoes (very close to the hotel) is scenic and is being expanded to be a fast cross-island highway—when completed you can get to Hilo in 40 minutes. The Waikoloa village shopping is sparse; however, the grocery store is well stocked. Better shopping is available at the mall on Beach Drive off of Kohala Coast Raod. This is the Ritzy side of the island with most of the big resorts. Shopping is better in Kona city; several grocery stores, CostCo, K-Mart, Target, and Walmart. Going south of the airport gets you to small mom-pop specialty shops along the road. The numerous farmers markets are best for fresh local produce (fruits, veggies, Kona/Ka’U coffees, macadamia nuts, etc.). Too bad they don’t allow the super-size fruits back to the mainland. The coffees and macadamia nuts are superb and allowed on the plane. The hotel folks were kind enough to provide a Kona-coffee sample. Enjoy the Big Island!

Farmers markets all over the big island. Fresh local produce, coffess, macadamia nuts, tree-ripened fruits, prepared meals, etc.. Only drawback--you have to eat it there (no fruits on plane).

Great space, minimal housekeeping
Great rooms, each with own porch. Loved the laundry and kitchen. "Light" housekeeping everyday with 1 date 1/2 through stay as more cleaning not performed. Was able to access entire island from this location. Close to some great beaches and shopping but far enough from Kona to feel you get away from it all.

Pick up groceries at local grocery store and packed lunches for beaches. Ate breakfast in hotel every morning and only went out for dinner. Able to expand dinner budget and go to some great luau's, dinner cruises, etc.

Excellent vacation near best beaches
Friendly staff, nice landscaping, best beaches just a couple of miles down the hill, spacious rooms, convenient to grocery. Ocean view in distance and golf course view in rear of room. Quiet and extra clean. Affordable, better than other resorts in area. Waikola area has much better beaches than Kona with less congestion. I cannot wait to return to Paniola Greens soon. The resort has a nice, clean pool with hot tub and fitness room, towels available for the pool and beach. Gas grills conveniently located to buildings.

Perfect and calm
During our holidays this place was the perfect one whenever we think of a calm place to rest after a tired day of visiting all the interesting places on a Big Island. Really calm place with everything you'd need.. Of course, this is not a usual hotel - it's much closer to a 'holiday house' - and if this is what you're looking for, you'd be glad as I was.

Great space
From the moment we arrived the landcaped and lovely grounds welcomed us. The grounds and buildings were clean and neat. The staff was friendly and professional. There were free activities and equipment, from basketball, tennis and noodles for the kids to play in the pool. The condo was excellent. Spacious, clean and well decorated. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything you might need. Can opener, blender, cups, glasses, pots and pans, cheese grater, wine opener, you name it. It is about 25 minutes from Kona but some of the best beaches are closer to Paniolo than Kona. While we were there the weather was a bit rainy, however while Hilo and Kona got soaked it was simply partially sunny in the area Paniolo is located. I highly recommend this establishment for families or couples and groups.

Excellent Stay
This two bedroom condo had all amenities needed for a short or long stay including a blender, toaster, rice cooker, full size refrigerator/freezer, full set of dishes, cooking pans, utensils, and much more. The FREE internet worked with no problems. The bed and furniture were very comfortable. The spa and pool were clean and not too busy. I would highly recommend Paniolo Greens!

Great place to relax!
Our upstairs unit was clean, well equipped, and had a nice view. The unit (C202) had a full kitchen, living room, and a washer/dryer. The staff at Paniono Greens made our experience great. The pool, workout area, and jacuzzi are clean and everyone is pleasant. Also, I forgot to buy toothpaste when I arrived, so I walked to the front desk to ask for some and by the time I got back it was already delivered. The area, even though 6 miles from the beach, was comfortable and quiet. I will choose Paniolo Greens in Waikaloa first on my next visit!
