Excellent hotel for families
We stayed here in Jan 2012 for the first time. It really is a wonderful hotel for families. With the tram "train", the boat ride along the canal, the flamingoes, parrots, dolphins and nenes--it really has a lot to offer families with young children. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and clean--nothing fabulous or super stylish-but they were comfortable. As many people have said--the food is good overall--and comparable to the prices you see at resorts on HI these days. The service was very good wherever we went--employees were friendly and plentiful. I have to comment that the pools were all really cold however--too cold for a resort in my opinion (they are not heated). But the pumped in ocean water to the lagoon was nice--and calm and filled with turtles, fish and wonderfully calm snorkeling/ kayaking/ and paddle boats which was great for beginners (young kids). We will certainly go back--for the dolphins, the train rides and the amazing grounds to explore. Bring a wet suit for the pool.

If you buy the Hilton Food discount card--it gives you quite a bit of money back and makes up for the cost easily--if you are planning to eat at the resort for most/all of your meals.

Great family vacation
We had a fantastic stay! Eight wonderful days- This is the best resort on the big island for kids. From being able to take a boat around the resort, the dolphins, waterslides, to the little details- this resort is a gem- perfect place for kids (and their parents alike!). The customer service is outstanding. Tip- valet is only $6 more than self park, well worth it! The staff treats you like royalty, and the sense of Aloha permeates this resort.

Wonderful family getaway
This hotel is just beautiful. Wonderful views of the coast, fantastic lagoon that is sea fed and has turtles etc. Great for young children as it has a sandy beach . There are also two fantastic swimming pools. This is one of the loveliest locations as the gardens are extensive and beautifully maintained. Well worth a visit.

Fantastic Family Getaway
Everything was great except for parking charge of 15 dollars a day. Also guests are charged for spa and internet. I feel if you pay that much to stay those things should be included. Also convention conferences and concerts made a peaceful paradise crowded.

Short break that was great
I especially wanted to comment on the excellence of atmosphere. I've never experienced a more welcoming and positive employee interaction, everyone was warm, sincere, and professional. As a single I would say it's very family friendly so it's a good place to "be" with someone either girlfriends or that special someone, otherwise you might feel a bit odd man out. The only thing I really didn't like was the whole gratuity billing......especially at the spa which was my main focus, the first time I was slapped with a 18% fee I thought, okay so now I know the rules and I specifically stated how much I wanted to give and was again ignored, it really put a pinch in my experience. There just needs to be another way in order for me to feel good about it. If they were to charge a general service fee that all services shared and added it in like tax then maybe, but if it's still about "me" feeling free to express my gratitude in the way that I want and can afford then I want to set the amount. Otherwise, a totally welcome experience that I have already put on my must do again list.

Lovely place
The grounds are huge. This is fine if you're not in a rush...and your on vacation anyway so what's the rush? We didn't mind walking because the grounds were lovely and the halls were filled with artifacts and statues. There was always something to look at on the walks. We never felt over crowded either. Didn't get full 5 stars because location was about 45min to 1hr drive to most good water activities off site.

Getting around the hotel
The tram is a great way to get around the hotel. The wait is short between runs. Or if you want to get in your exercise every day, put on your walking shoes. It's a great place to walk and you can incorporate the stairs in your workout if you like..

Breakfast:: Ocean Tower has an expresso, smoothie and breakfast rolls bar in it's lobby if you want a quick breakfast snack. We thought the Continental buffet breakfast served at the hotel was perfect and reasonably priced..

our hawaiian get away
i am not poor. but if i ate there everyday i would be poor. wow i couldn't believe $6 for a cup of coffee in the morning. $19 dollars for a regular breakfast was expensive and than they tack on $6 for coffee. the hotel and the grounds was very nice. It was very hard to get around to the interior because of all the steps you had to use and the hotel is not very friendly for handicapped people. i was told the rental fee would be $10 per day and it was $15 dollars per day if you parked it yourself and $21 plus tip to valet your car

Buyer Beware
This hotel is at a beautiful location. With Hilton I guess you would expect a level of luxery and service. This is not exactly the case. The hotel staff was rude when I checked in and proceeded to argue with me over the room I had reserved and the room they "could give me." I stayed for 7 days and 6 nights. The room was serviced daily, but I never got clean towels and sheets, and the ammenities were not restocked. The biggest thing that visitors should be aware of is that there are many hidden charges that you are not aware of until you check out. I was not informed about the $15 charge you have everytime that you park. I had a $300 plus bill that they handed me when I checked out, plus when I got home I checked my credit card and saw that they had charged me again for $60.

I would suggest getting food from a grocery store-snacks and drinks. These things are not readily available at the hotel and if they are they are very pricey.
