Great Honeymoon, family oriented. Stay away from timeshare event.

Had an amazing time at this resort. Lots to do. Some reviews warned of expensive costs. This is true but when you count up what it costs to go drive 25mins to another town or store then it was worth it in my eyes. Lots of great choices to eat and places to relax. We had a great room at the ocean tower. They were doing room renovating, I called the front desk and it ended immediately for the rest of our trip. The walking, coming from two people that work in an office in boring Kansas, we loved night and morning walks. The sun rolls in at 6am and you wake up and ready to do anything. The views on the island are insane, we rented a car to travel around the whole island. If you like to drive in the twisty roads this is an amazing place for it. Honeymooners? Well this is mostly a family place, when you look around at all the events and such, mostly see kids and family. In a way we wish we had went to one of the other islands with less family atmosphere but life on the big island is very relaxed. PS. Stay away from Hilton Grand Vacations, Time shares. They suckered us into 2 hours of a car salesman make you feel bad sales pitch. Wasn't worth the $100 off we got on some excursions.

Fun location

The hotel was great overall, but there were a few things Hilton could have done to make it better. For example, they force guests to wear a plastic armband to use the pool. Having paid such a high rate for my room and already having a pool towel card, I find this an irritating policy. No one wants to walk around Hawaii with a bright blue plastic armband on them. We ended up taking them off immediately and throwing them away, which is wasteful. Also, the hotel features two large pools. Hilton rented out the pool closest to our tower to a filming company, so the pool was closed to us for most of our stay. We were not notified of this before it during check in.

A Magical Stay....

James and I Stayed 8days 7nights at the Hilton Waikoloa Resort in Kona, Hawaii January 2015 for our 20th Anniversary. As we stepped in Resort someone was greeting us the staff was very helpful and informative about the island and the things that you can do. There's several different restaurant's so that you can experience many different types of foods and the staff were very accommodating towards food preferences. It's like no other place we've every visited. And we've traveled a lot!

Mixed feelings

Check-in: we were sent to a waiting area where we had to wait for 4 hours to get a room. At 2:00 PM we were told that someone was cleaning the room and it should be ready within 45 minutes. They kept saying that we will get a call back from front desk. They never did. After calling the MOD our room was ready by 3:25 PM. Our sheets were not changed at all for the whole week (Hilton standards is every 4 days) Beds were not made properly. Restaurant Don and Tony in the Hilton Village: dirty silverware, sticky and dirty plastic table cloth, dirty glass. Expensive for a pizza place. KPC restaurant: great view, average food, very expensive. Kirin restaurant: excellence Chinese food, great view, very expensive. Waikoloa Cafe: great service, expensive. Water's Edge breakfast: good food, very expensive. DolphinQuest: sad to see these beautiful animals trapped in a small area. Lagoon: swim with fish and turtle. Fresh salty water. Outside the Hilton village food is affordable. Great food at Romano's macaroni. Cafe Pesto has great food in Hilo. Great beach to go to: Hapuna beach (HI state park) few miles away from the Hilton Village.

Pretty good time but time consuming!

This is a good place for a family vacation. Lots of activities to choose from, but maybe the pricey breakfast options weren't so family friendly! Thank goodness for the ABC Store down the road! The lagoon swimming and boating activities were nice, but things like snorkel gear availability (lack thereof) put a damper on our time. Also, the train you have to take from the far wings of the hotel can be pretty slow to come. Maybe it was worth it because we fell asleep to the sound of the ocean outside our lanai every night, which was pretty great. You do have to plan to budget a lot of extra time to just get around in this hotel. Valet service was pretty slow. Call ahead for your car when you leave your room, and by the time you wait for and then ride the train there maybe your car will be waiting and you can be off to enjoy the Big Island!

Great Trip

They will charge you extra for parking at the end of your trip. If you say anything about it they will say its free. Also they only have a couple of places open to eat.

Just Average

Hotel isn't as nice as it used to be. You can tell they don't up keep or maintain certain aspects of the hotel as certain things are just outdated. Hotel room was comfortable but the bed sheets and pillow cases smelled like they had been left in the washer for too long then dried: I probably wouldn't reccomend this place to a friend.

lots of things to do on property.

The hotel grounds are amazing. Quite a large property. Lots to see and do for all ages. Easy transportation to and from your designated room. Not very many beaches to swim at unless you go off property. Convenient stores to shop and get snacks. Some of the staff did not understand English or had any helpful ideas on what to see or do. Had to ask several times for directions to sites. Other than that our experience was great and I would stay there again. Oh ya. Coffee maker is not marked for one cup or two.

Holiday Trip

Our 1st trip to the Big Island and loved the Wiakoloa Hilton. Lots to do- pools, SUP, their own salt water lagoon, and restaurants. It is a very large resort so you do a lot of walking to get to places or you can take the tram or a boat ride. Paying to park everyday was a little steep @ $25/day but location was prime! We would come back again.
