Kilauea accomodations
This was actually a bed & breakfast, without the breakfast. Rooms were small, but priced right. The kitchen area was fully stocked, except food, of course, if you like to cook. Shared common areas and bathrooms weren't a problem, but we are early risers and beat any crowding. I was pleasantly surprised to find a shared computer with free internet access. I was disappointed that none of the TV's had remotes. The house is 100 years old, but clean and fairly well kept. If you looking for a fairly priced place to sleep & shower that is 5 minutes from that park, this is it. If you looking for a hotel with all the ammenities, keep looking.

Convenient but cockroaches
Nice accommodations, conveniently located near Volcano National Park. Unfortunately the house has a lot of cockroaches running around (we saw them both in the kitchen as well as the bedroom). If we had known, we wouldn't have stayed here.

Great Place to explore from!
Access to Volcanoes National Park is easy and the staff were great to deal with. The room was well worth the price and the bathroom was clean. Other guests were very considerate and our stay was very comfortable. Watch your head on the way down the stairs as both my wife and I cut our heads on the low ceiling. Don't expect too much from the "full kitchen" as there are not allot of utensils to be able to cook with, and there are no staples (salt, pepper, sugar, oil, spices etc...) There are some very good restaurants close by though!

Do the Kilauea Iki hike! It takes you through rain forest and onto the crater floor. Allow 2 to 3 hours but it is well worth it and you can go through the Thurston Lava Tube on the way bake to the parking lot.

for the adventurous
The location for the hotel was perfect. It was very near the volcano national park, enabling us to go to the park at night for spectacular viewing! Room was a bit musty smelling. Kitchen had plenty of silverware, plates, bowls, etc., but appeared to need cleaning. For the money, this was a fine place to stay to have the "volcano" experience and we would stay again.

Chalet Kilahuea Collection-Hale Volcano
The Hale Volcano house, which is part of the Chalet Kilauea Collection of quasi-B&B lodgings, is charming, quaint, rustic, and very quiet--all good qualities to this reviewer. We had one of six rooms in the nearly-100-year-old house. There is a full kitchen, lots of open space, board games, TV, fireplace (Volcano is up high, and gets cool at night). The bed was comfortable, albeit a bit bouncy and the springs creaked a little. The downstairs, shared bathroom was large and well appointed. A very nice place to stay--and about five minutes from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park entrance. There are very few eating establishments near by, and they are adequate, but not sophisticated.

More than I could have expected
The hotel is very close to the park entrance, which was a nice way to start. The room itself was a huge suite with living, dining, and bedroom areas (not separate rooms, so one person could not sleep while others were doing other activities). Great common area with a common fridge you can use. Board games in the common area. A good number of towels, and some extra soaps, etc in the bathroom. Great closet. This room had a microwave, small bar sink, and coffee maker,so if you're prepared, you could make your own breakfast. The breakfast at the main chalet (driving distance - it would be a loooong walk) was nice but a bit short on alternatives.

If there's a ranger talk in the park, it's the best and most worthwhile entertainment you'll find anywhere.

Beautiful collection
We came in really late (check-in was simple with easy directions to where we actually were staying). Had a romantic walk down the road in the full moon light with my husband. The continental breakfast was perfect and a must do, the staff was so friendly and helpful.
