The Royal Lahaina Resort is a family-owned complex of traditional tower hotel rooms and plantation-style beach huts beneath swaying coconut palms. Thanks to the lush 27-acre property size, there's nothing to interfere with views of those mesmerizing ocean waves and neighboring island Molokai, as you snooze in a wicker chair by the sea. Golf enthusiasts have access to two 18-hole championship courses at the Kaanapali Golf Resort, while nature-lovers will be thrilled with many whale-watching opportunities. At night, guests can indulge in Hawaiian history by joining in with a traditional "Myths of Maui" luau, and let the sound of Polynesian drums, the dazzle of colored costumes, and the intense fire knife dance initiate them into island life.

Not the best

Customer service below par. Several errors on their part with no remorse or apology. Food is awful. Eat elsewhere. You get charged extra for everything. Tap water is not drinkable. The tower is super nice. The cottages that have not been renovated are pretty old, rusty and cracked and still really expensive. But it's Maui!! So relax and it's all good.

Perfect Setting for a Maui Experience

My husband and I just got back from staying at the Royal Lahaina Resort. I am so happy that we chose this resort over others. I was up early every morning with coffee on the balcony watching the beautiful ocean view. We loved having the beach walk to get to other restaurants and shopping without having to jump in the car. It made for a nice walk in the AM and evening also. We drove around to other resort areas on the island and I just kept saying I am so happy with our choice. Wish they had a gym though. Staff was always pleasant. The pool area is small but we never used it. I love the beach. The food was great at the hotel. We even saw a whale blow in the distance as we sat eating breakfast on our last day. There are more expensive resorts in this area with more amenities but we tend not to use them anyway so this was perfect for us. I plan on going back to Maui in the future. I would stay on the northern part of the island for a few days first and then book the rest of our trip at the Royal Lahaina Resort. Thank you to all the staff. You made our very looooong flight from Cape Cod worth it!

Amazing if you're willing to pay

We stayed in one of the cottages. Each cottage could give you a totally different view. We were in cottage K. Originally we wanted a cottage so we could have a kitchen. So we booked a garden saver cottage. After getting excited I went and looked at the actual hotel's website and saw that their wording on which cottage rooms actually have kitchens is a little more clear about the fact that the garden saver cottage does not have a kitchen. The Oribtz site is not as clear about that. We ended up forking over a bunch more money for a 1 bedroom. The 1 bedroom that is shown on the website was different than what we had in our room. The website shows a couch and day bed. Our 1 bedroom was essentially two rooms linked together. One room was a 1 king bed with no kitchen and the other was a 2 double bed room with a kitchen and a dining table. This was way more beds than we needed for two of us. It gave us the kitchen so that was good. Also, the lanai situation on the top floor would have been awful if one side of the top floor was not us as it would not have been private at all. We were trying to figure out if we stayed in a garden saver cottage would we have gotten the 1 king room with no kitchen? Or the 2 doubles with a kitchen? Or something else entirely? We definitely had two separate room numbers for our "1 bedroom". It was all very confusing and no where on any website could I find real answers. When we called they told us the only rooms with kitchens were 1 or 2 bedrooms so maybe in the past each room upstairs could be a separate room but now they only book the upstairs two rooms as one room? Not really sure. Regardless of all this the rooms were updated, really nice furniture, we had ocean views from inside the room and from one of the lanais, the kitchen was functional, and the house keepers clean your dishes for you!!! The pools are small but adequate as you will probably want to spend most of your time at the beach in the ocean as it is definitely safe to swim. The food was meh, drinks were good, waitstaff really friendly, rentals like chairs and snorkel gear was reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend renting things like the beach chairs for the week as it will be way cheaper than going every day to get them and they are definitely a great add-on for those that want to read on the beach. Location is great, easy walk to all the other hotels in each direction for other restaurant choices, easy walk to Whaler's village for food, happy hour, and shopping. We had a car but still rode the bus once from Whaler's Village to Lahaina to have lunch and go to the brewery and the bus was simple, on time, and cheap. We looked online afterwards at some other hotels we walked by to compare prices and Royal Lahaina has one of the best locations in terms of being right on the ocean and if you want a kitchen it is reasonable compared to other places. It is definitely more expensive with the kitchen and Maui in general is more expensive than many other similar destinations but I would highly recommend staying in one of the cottages if the price isn't a bother to you.

Rent the beach chairs by the week instead of each day. They are amazing for the beach, have a cup holder and cell phone holder.

worth it for us

Clean hotel. Comfy bed. Clean towels and bed everyday. We got a free upgraded room. Awesome staff. Beautiful beach. Only complaints would be the pools . One has awkward location in front of the restauant. Hot tub is way too far behind the parking lot. It was a good stay. We didnt come for the pool so it wasnt a big deal. Nice location if you want a little quieter area than south of black rock.

We felt very welcomed!

The staff was very friendly and polite, and they made us feel very welcomed on our honeymoon trip! The resort is right by the beach, which is extremely beautiful, with mountains at the background. The compounds are very well kept and clean. Our room is standard king bed with a small balcony. Furniture and decor are simple but sufficient and elegant. Will no doubt stay here again if return to Maui. And highly highly recommended!

If you are looking for a luau, don't settle for the luau at the resort even though cheaper. Definitely go to Old Lahaina Luau a short drive away. Great food and service and performance!!

Excellent stay!

Staff was very friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived. We were greeted with a complimentary upgrade to a full ocean view room. The room itself exceeded our expectations. Everything was nicely designed and the room was comfortable and clean. We had a great view of the ocean and beach. I would definitely recommend this resort to family and friends and looking forward to returning in the future!
