Plantation-style goes upscale on Kauai's Royal Coconut Coast
Set on 25 acres along a three-mile beach -- Kauai's longest -- this resort evokes the graciousness of the plantation era but with a host of contemporary amenities. The beach, which is perfect for sauntering or sunning, is not for swimming. No problem. Kauai Beach Resort has four pools, a beachfront sand-bottomed pool and a fantasy pool with a 75-foot lava-tube water slide among them. Two restaurants, a lounge, a fitness center and a spa round out the facilities. And when guests want to explore further afield, Kauai's east coast is an ideal spot from which to do it.
Highlights
  • Fantasy pool with 75-foot lava-tube water slide
  • Series of concerts and programs promoting Hawaiian arts and artists
  • Hawaiian Rainforest Spa
  • Complimentary bocce
  • Complimentary airport shuttle
Location
Kauai's Royal Coconut Coast is rife with sacred sites and groves of slender coconut palms, with its character shaped in part by long, curving Wailua River, the only navigable river in all of Hawaii. A stay here should include visits to a trio of sites, Fern Grotto, Secret Falls, and 80-foot Wailua Falls, made famous in the opening scene of TV classic "Fantasy Island."
Rooms
Accents such as louvered doors and wood floors recall plantation style, but the old plantation homes didn't have what these rooms at Kauai Beach Resort have: travertine marble in the bathrooms and iPod docks in the living rooms.
Features

There's a distinctly Hawaiian feel to Kauai Beach Resort with its island architecture, but also a culture of sharing and promoting authentic Hawaiiana that sets it apart. The resort hosts events all year, including local musicians who share their art and stories, benefit concerts supporting the perpetuation of Hawaiian language and music, and a festival featuring the state's top slack-key artists. Check the annual calendar and plan your trip accordingly.

Although the beach out front isn't safe for swimming, Lydgate Beach Park, a couple of miles away, offers excellent swimming and snorkeling.

Great vacation!

Just returned and didn't want to come back home! The hotel was in a great location. I liked the fact that there are shopping centers and grocery stores a few miles down the road. Also, it is in the middle of the north and south shores so the drive isn't bad going to either location. All staff was very friendly. Everything great about hotel except it's not on a swimmable beach but the pool area made up for it. Lots of chairs around the pool and it was never crowded. We knew this going so it didn't bother us. Also, there is a resort fee (parking) but also this is stated and not a surprise. Rooms were cleaned daily and the hotel grounds were always clean. The beds were comfortable to us. The pillows are a little too fluffy but that was ok. We didn't eat at the hotel resturants so no comment on good or bad.

The island area seems to close down early. Shops close 7-8:00 most days. Shop at the Wal-mart for cheap groceries and snacks. Go snorkling on the north shore for a fun and wonderful activity. Also, lots of great places to get very good shave ice. Get a Kauai guidebook from a book store before going. it helps alot!

The best place to stay on Kauai

The hotel and grounds were beautiful and the mai tai reception and Hawaiian dancing and music entertainment was so enjoyable. The orientation breakfast the first morning was very informative and helped us plan our vacation. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was excellent. We liked the central location and we could drive towards Poipu or up to the north coast without a long travel time. It was just perfect and I can't wait to come back.

Lihue 5/10/10

We have been traveling the island. Excursion desk was very helpful. We did a wonderful helicopter flight and a super boat trip. We loved the place. It was one of the most wonderful hotels we have met on our trip of the hawaiian islands.

Enjoyable Stay

Great experience. Hotel is clean and very nice -- there are several pools with fountains, hot tubs, etc. and the beach is right there as well. The ocean is beautiful but not safe for swimming. We came in late from a flight from the Philippines so it was very nice to have a comfortable bed and then stroll along the beach and swim in the pools the next morning. No complaints!

Great pool, great hotel!

Great hotel! The pictures are true... I will stay here again. The price was good and it was a beautiful hotel that had everything. The beach in front of the hotel was too rough- not a swimming beach. The pools were very relaxing and enjoyable. They charge for parking but it didn't bother us... Our experience there was worth everything we spent.

Great Service at Kauai Beach Resort

After my 7 minute drive from the airport, which can make a difference when you're arriving on the late night flight, I was checked in quickly by [...] and went up to my room. I discovered that it was right off the elevator. I called downstairs and [...]set me up with a room with a king bed in a much better location (even had a partial ocean view). The hotel was also a great location because the resort is ocean front and even if your room isn't ocean view, you're just a 2 minute walk to the beach from anywhere in the resort. I left the "Do not disturb" sign in my room when I left for the day. When I returned, there was a message waiting for me letting me know that I had done this and if I needed anything, such as towels or making the bed, to call downstairs. Hotels with lesser levels of service would not have gone to this length. My last comments are for the last day of my stay. I wanted to stay a little longer in my room because my flight was at 9pm. I was informed that I could stay but for every hour after noon I would be charged a rate of $10/hour. While I understand the policy, the hotel was definitely NOT even close to 1/2 full and there was no pressing need to get me out and the room turned over. I understand this policy if it were busy, but it was not. this rating would have been an excellent if I had been allowed to stay without incurring extra charges. At least they let me leave my bag with the bag boys without charge.but to slightly redeem themselves, I share the following. I went for a hike after checking out without thinking that my hike would leave me not so fresh for my flight home. I returned to the hotel to try and see if there was a shower somewhere to freshen up. Unfortunately, there were no such facilities (something that could be addressed), but I was given a towel, some shampoo and body wash to clean myself up in the men's bathroom (better than nothing for my fellow travelers). Overall, a great experience with some areas that could be improved to make it an excellent experience.

Kauai Beach Resort

It was unseasonably cold and the hotel was 'open-plan' therefore getting and keeping warm was a problem...The hotel cannot be blamed for that. It is 5 mins from the airport. It is on the beach and a short drive gets you anywhere. The seafood buffet night (saturday) is superb and great value. The hotel had all that we could have asked for - except sun. Guess we can't sue for that. But we were surprised to have to pay for parking our hire car there...is this now the norm in the US?

If you are from the UK/Europe you will find that they eat earlier than 'over here'. The hotel catering was excellent.

Kaua'i Beach Resort

Excellent service, the hotel staff was quick and polite. The resort is lovely and right on the beach (not a good swimming beach). Wish I could have stayed longer. The only down side was you have to pay for parking every night and the internet was not free.

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

Go North on 56 towards Kapaa, there is shoping and food plus some better beaches and activites/rentals. Hotel Supplies Towels for on or off the property so dont worry about bringing your own (more bag space).
