Plantation-style goes upscale on Kauai's Royal Coconut Coast
Set on 25 acres along a three-mile beach -- Kauai's longest -- this resort evokes the graciousness of the plantation era but with a host of contemporary amenities. The beach, which is perfect for sauntering or sunning, is not for swimming. No problem. Kauai Beach Resort has four pools, a beachfront sand-bottomed pool and a fantasy pool with a 75-foot lava-tube water slide among them. Two restaurants, a lounge, a fitness center and a spa round out the facilities. And when guests want to explore further afield, Kauai's east coast is an ideal spot from which to do it.
Highlights
  • Fantasy pool with 75-foot lava-tube water slide
  • Series of concerts and programs promoting Hawaiian arts and artists
  • Hawaiian Rainforest Spa
  • Complimentary bocce
  • Complimentary airport shuttle
Location
Kauai's Royal Coconut Coast is rife with sacred sites and groves of slender coconut palms, with its character shaped in part by long, curving Wailua River, the only navigable river in all of Hawaii. A stay here should include visits to a trio of sites, Fern Grotto, Secret Falls, and 80-foot Wailua Falls, made famous in the opening scene of TV classic "Fantasy Island."
Rooms
Accents such as louvered doors and wood floors recall plantation style, but the old plantation homes didn't have what these rooms at Kauai Beach Resort have: travertine marble in the bathrooms and iPod docks in the living rooms.
Features

There's a distinctly Hawaiian feel to Kauai Beach Resort with its island architecture, but also a culture of sharing and promoting authentic Hawaiiana that sets it apart. The resort hosts events all year, including local musicians who share their art and stories, benefit concerts supporting the perpetuation of Hawaiian language and music, and a festival featuring the state's top slack-key artists. Check the annual calendar and plan your trip accordingly.

Although the beach out front isn't safe for swimming, Lydgate Beach Park, a couple of miles away, offers excellent swimming and snorkeling.

Great hotel, great value!

My husband and I went to Kauai for 5 nights for our 10th wedding anniversary and we had a wonderful time. Kauai Beach Resort is a nice hotel. A little older but very well maintained. It was quiet and I liked how it was well off the main road but less than 3 miles north of Lihue airport. The grounds are beautiful with a breathtaking beach. The shoreline is rocky, not good to swim in, although I did see people in it, but there is plenty of sand to lay in or play in. My husband didn't care for the bed, he said it hurt his back a little, but I slept fine. The restaurant was good but expensive, even for Hawaii, and there are not a lot of choices for food. The resort is located between two towns, about 3 to 5 miles in either direction to get to other restaurants, so if you have a rental car, it's really not a big deal. The pools were beautiful and clean and the bar Shutters was nice.

Ideal Resort

The location of the hotel could not be better. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant provided good and healthy food. Nobody bothered you and the guests seemed courteous. The ocean and sea breeze added to the atmosphere and I liked the idea of letting the chickens and birds come into the restaurant! I could have more help from the person who provided information regarding what there is to see on the island, however. Enjoyed the stay very much.

Great resort for the price

We had a great time at the hotel, great value, great staff, nice rooms. Spring for the ocean / pool view, not the lagoon view (it's a duck pond). It was centrally located, but we found ourselves driving up or down the coast to get to many of the activities that we wanted to do. The hotel was great, although we didn't spend much time in the room or on the hotel grounds. The beach behind the hotel is not suitable for swimming / snorkeling, but there are great beaches north of the hotel. There is nightly entertainment at the hotel and currently a musical: South Pacific is playing every Wed night.

Perfect for a family or couples

We stayed at the Kauai Beach Resort with 2 children ages 10 and 12. We would definitely return to this hotel. The staff was very friendly, the grounds were exceptionally clean, as well as the room. Our only complaint is that there aren't enough umbrellas around the pool. But there were hardly any people, so we could usually find one in a matter of time. You can't beat the location because because the hotel is close to the airport (with NO noise) and close to the main highway which takes you to the shopping, dining areas. Well worth the money. You'll love this hotel and its location.

Excellent value, Beautiful Resort

I researched every hotel/resort in Kauai starting with the $50 per night to the best on the island at $400 per night. This was the middle ground. Has everything you need, makes you feel you are in a great place and doesn't hurt your pocket. Beautifully built resort, friendly service, great pools/spas, watch the sunrise on the backside beach, nice clean rooms, nice housekeeping. They have free internet in the lobby as well. We had a mountain view, but were lucky to have a ocean view room. They charge for parking, but add that cost to your hotel stay and it will still be cheaper than other places.....but now you can enjoy valet parking! .......I and my wife loved it! I haven't stayed at other resorts on Kauai, but If you are looking for a comfortable and a pleasant stay without troubles that cheaper hotels bring and don't need the class and elite service, this is the perfect place!

Perfect Getaway

The hotel rooms were very nice. I liked the layout and we could hear the waterfalls from the pool which was nice (the beds were a little too hard but thats a personal preferance). The staff was friendly and the pools were wonderful! We had room service and ate at the resturant a couple of times (I suggest the pesto sandwich for lunch :) The food was a little pricey not to bad and it was for the most part good) The hotel was away from the towns enough to make you feel relaxed yet close enough to drive somewhere to eat (approx. 5 - 10 min by car). The view of the ocean from our room was beautiful and the walk to the ocean was perfect. The beach in front of the hotel is mostly secluded and warm (one of our favorite things to do was sit at the beach). We loved it and when we return would definatly go back to the same hotel. We upgraded to an ocean view room which I would highly reccommend.

One of the best returants we went to was actually a little bar in Lihue, it was called Rob's Good time grill. We just went for a drink but the food was amazing. Fun atmosphere.

Kauai Beach Resort

We had a wonderful time. We liked the location, near the airport and the middle of the island--could easily take day trips to the north and south ends of the island. The food was excellent in the hotel restaurant. The lobby and the pool were beautiful. The staff was helpful.
