Plantation-style goes upscale on Kauai's Royal Coconut Coast
Set on 25 acres along a three-mile beach -- Kauai's longest -- this resort evokes the graciousness of the plantation era but with a host of contemporary amenities. The beach, which is perfect for sauntering or sunning, is not for swimming. No problem. Kauai Beach Resort has four pools, a beachfront sand-bottomed pool and a fantasy pool with a 75-foot lava-tube water slide among them. Two restaurants, a lounge, a fitness center and a spa round out the facilities. And when guests want to explore further afield, Kauai's east coast is an ideal spot from which to do it.Highlights
- Fantasy pool with 75-foot lava-tube water slide
- Series of concerts and programs promoting Hawaiian arts and artists
- Hawaiian Rainforest Spa
- Complimentary bocce
- Complimentary airport shuttle
Location
Kauai's Royal Coconut Coast is rife with sacred sites and groves of slender coconut palms, with its character shaped in part by long, curving Wailua River, the only navigable river in all of Hawaii. A stay here should include visits to a trio of sites, Fern Grotto, Secret Falls, and 80-foot Wailua Falls, made famous in the opening scene of TV classic "Fantasy Island."Rooms
Accents such as louvered doors and wood floors recall plantation style, but the old plantation homes didn't have what these rooms at Kauai Beach Resort have: travertine marble in the bathrooms and iPod docks in the living rooms.Features
There's a distinctly Hawaiian feel to Kauai Beach Resort with its island architecture, but also a culture of sharing and promoting authentic Hawaiiana that sets it apart. The resort hosts events all year, including local musicians who share their art and stories, benefit concerts supporting the perpetuation of Hawaiian language and music, and a festival featuring the state's top slack-key artists. Check the annual calendar and plan your trip accordingly.
Although the beach out front isn't safe for swimming, Lydgate Beach Park, a couple of miles away, offers excellent swimming and snorkeling.

kauai relaxation
The Kauai Beach Resort was a beautiful place to stay with a variety of pools and lovely grounds. The room was enormous and comfortable. We spent time exploring the island and enjoying the pool. The free mai tais and Hawaiian show were great! You must go to Waimea Canyon. It's unbelievably beautiful! The staff at the hotel was very friendly.

Go to Kilauea Lighthouse. It's a bird and humpback whale sanctuary. The view from there is indescribable! It's a short drive mileage, but it will take you awhile to get there. Traffic moves slowly on Kauai, but it's a beautiful drive to get there.

Nice place
We only stayed at this resort for one night before heading to our Timeshare at another resort. We rented a hotel room, which had a nice balcony and a view of the ocean even though we were told it was only a mountain view-pleasant surprise. Because we were only there one night we didn't have a chance to experience all the amenities, but did eat dinner and happy hour at their outdoor bar/grill-good food and drink. I also heard from another source that this resort had one of the best breakfast buffets $19.95, but we chose to eat off grounds as we were heading out to discover the beautiful island. Nice location and nice room, only thing I thought it could use was a ceiling fan. Would have liked to look at their one bedroom units. Beach view and location, not much for beach access though, but on this island (Kauai) you don't have to travel too far for that.

Short drive from hotel
Because Kauai is an island with very minimal road alternatives, manage your travel time wisely. Most things are a short distance away, but can take a long time to get to at certain times of day due to work/school traffic or construction. Almost everyone is laid back and will let you into traffic, but patience is definitly a virtue on this island when traveling.

Good location for a good price
Good location, clean, not great bud good for an acceptable price. Staff was friendly. You cannot have any nice beach view because they built the pool in front of the hotel. You have to pay 12 dollars per day for self-parking.

We love Kauai
Very nice Resort, great views, sunrise walks on the beach, great pools, great fitness facility, very good "plan your vacation" ideas. A brief surprise about the fee for parking (as if rental cars don't cost enough on the island!)but nothing we could do about that.

great retreat!
We did enjoyed everything. BUT all the hot tubs werent working, so the only one was full most of the time. so that was a dissapointment,so to many little kids were in it too. They couldve done a better job of being organized at the bar for the Packer Steeler playoff, but we all made the best of it. Othewise, this place offered everything anyone could want. Great food, entertainment and the staff was very friendly with smiles all the time and very helpful. The beds were comfy and rooms clean.

Relaxing, Plantation Style Resort
I liked the central location for sightseeing and proximity to the airport. After a long trip, I was looking forward to taking a shower and nap, but the room was not ready before the 4pm check-in. They let me know that lunch was available at the poolside hut, but I opted to sit in the car and doze. It would have been nice for them to offer other options or ask to check my luggage. They did upgrade the room from a mountain view to a pool view at no charge. The room itself was clean, with lots of fresh towels. This is an older facility near the salt water, so there are some signs of age. They have live music in the lounge nightly and visiting artists in the foyer. There was a large event over the weekend, but the valet assured us there would be parking available for guests when we returned from dinner- and there was! Our concierge, [...], was knowledgeable, helpful and enthusiastic. On the fourth day, the lock on the door stopped working, but they responded very quickly when I reported it. I would definitely stay here again.
