Opulent Poipu resort is both playground and blissful retreat
Acres of saltwater lagoons and freshwater pools, grottos, waterfalls, and an extravagance of tropical blooms create a setting so lush it could be a movie backdrop for the ultimate island love story. Tranquil but playful -- who can resist a 150-foot water slide? -- the AAA Four Diamond Grand Hyatt Kauai inspires thoughts of paradise. For spa-lovers it may well be paradise since Anara Spa added its blissful garden sanctuary. Yet golfers, kayakers and tennis players will also find idyllic ways to while away the hours … or days.Highlights
- 45,000-square-foot Anara Spa
- Camp Hyatt (ages 3-12), now partnered with National Geographic Kids
- Adjacent Shipwreck Beach, where "Six Days Seven Nights" was filmed
Rooms
Decor at the Grand Hyatt Kauai is "Classic Hawaiian" with warm hues and rich woods. There are more than 600 rooms, each with lanai or balcony, but the resort doesn't feel crowded thanks to meandering paths and waterways that create a multitude of secluded, peaceful areas.Features
It is hard to peg the resort as ideal for couples or families, lovers or adventurers, golfers or kayakers, because it is for all of the above. Romantics find hidden nooks among the gardens and lagoons and in the serene spa. Tranquil lagoons beckon to kayakers while golfers can take the challenge posed by Poipu Bay Golf Course, where distractions include whales breaching just offshore. Parents have bonding time with children during cultural and family activities, and adult time while kids play and learn in highly regarded Camp Hyatt. A twice-weekly luau and Polynesian revue is for everyone.Dining
There are nearly a dozen restaurants, bars, and snack venues at the Grand Hyatt Kauai, including an espresso bar where caffeine junkies can jump-start the day at 5:30 a.m. Stevenson's Library channels the ambiance of a Victorian gentleman's club (ladies welcome), a cozy spot for late-night Cognac or Port. Reserve in advance to dine at Dondero's, the only AAA Four Diamond restaurant on Kauai.Transportation

Very Enjoyable
We stayed at the Hyatt during August 2011 for 4 nights. It was overall a great experience. Good Things: The employees were very helpful and were all knowledgable. The grounds were beautiful. I would highly recommend eating at Dondero's! Try to get an outside table for the ocean view. Excellent food. The Spa was gorgeous too. Not So Good Things: there were many children, (it was our honeymoon but this is busy season for families to travel so we expected it), there were small little bugs throughout our room. (which I thought for a 5 star hotel was crazy). Don't waste your money on the breakfast buffet. It was $29.00 for diner food and there were birds flying around and trying to eat our food and the food in the buffet line.

Heaven!
I have zero complanits about this hotel. I can't imagine anyone having anything to complain about here. The staff is beyond helpful and courteous. The concierge is as reliant as can be. The restaurants have amazing food. Most importantly the hotel itself is calm, relaxing, comfortable, and as beautiful as you could imagine. If you are going to Kauai, this is the place to stay. If you play golf, there is nowhere better. For anyone concerned with price, you definitely get what pay for.

Outstanding stay!
I went on this trip with five college friends. This Hyatt was outstanding. The hotel itself is obviously a five star and the rooms are incredible. What we liked about this hotel is that it was very kid friendly. We did not feel out of place being in casual attire. There were a TON of pools and a large salt water lagoon. But the BEST part of the stay was the service. Each and every employee (and there were a lot) were extremely friendly and helpful. We went out to the hot tub at 2 AM, and two minutes into our hot tub entry, we were greeted by a staff member asking us if we wanted water bottles and towels. Amazing. The ONLY complaint I would have is that the beaches near the hotel were a little rocky. THe beaches on the North shore are supposedly better, but I think it was wroth it because theis hotel was amazing! I highly recommend this hotel to anyone . Especially those who have young children. There are also parrots situated all throughout the resort. I thought that was pretty cool!

Kauai
The Grand Hyatt was a very nice resort. All the staff was very friendly and helpful The pool area was very nice but would have been nice to have a little more shade from the Palm trees. It is an older pool area could have had a swim up bar. Food and drink prices were really expensive as expected. Breakfasts started at $14 to $20. The breakfast buffet was $28. It was ok but nothing exceptional. We ended up eating most meals off resort. One night we ate at Donderos, Italian. Food was excellent. On thing is if you are coming to Kauai for night life go some where else. Very thing on the Island is shut down by 9 pm. Over all for us it was a great week

Had a Blast on our honeymoon.
We recently went here for our honeymoon and had a great time, we were very impressed with the hotel and Kaua'i itself. If you want relaxation and beautiful scenery, this is the right island and best hotel. PROS - Hotel grounds (pools, lagoon, beach, bars, restaurant options) - Fantastic Service (except outdoor waitresses are few & far between. don't expect cruise ship type drink service) - Views (definitely get ocean view. Mountain/Garden view means NO view worth mentioning) - Car rentals on-site - Great concierge service, can set up your whole week with activities and dinner...plus get you everything you need in about 20 minutes. - Yum Cha restaurant on-site at the golf club. Highly recommended Asian cuisine. CONS - Overpriced food & drinks, though the whole island is expensive in this area. Find local options with a travel guide independent of hotel recommendations and on-site options. - Many families, but didn't feel overwhelmed. Some may consider the kids a nuisance. - $25/day mandatory charge for items you should get anyways for the room rates charged. (tennis reservations, parking, internet, newspaper, bottled water) - Don't do the luau on Thurs/Sun, watch one on the Travel channel instead. Do something fun off-site from the hotel with more value. - Did I mention overpriced food/drinks?

Do not do the Tubing adventure. It is about three hours, but about 30-45 minutes of actual tubing. The rest is spent in a van driving to & from the tubing location off-road, listening to these dudes jabber about sugar cane fields and irrigation ditches. Opt for Zip Line or hiking at Waimea canyon.
