The Kauai Marriott Resort Lihue on the Hawaiian island of Kauai is located on beautiful Kalapaki Beach. The views from the property are stunning, and the hotel recently underwent a $50 million upgrade to the rooms, restaurants and property. Whether you are looking to relax at the amazing oceanfront pool or play 18 holes of golf at the adjacent Jack Nicklaus-designed Kaua'i Lagoon Golf Club, the property offers many exciting entertainment options. The hotel also has the renowned Alexander Spa & Salon where you can unwind after a fun day in the sun. Business travelers have over 20,230 square feet of flexible event and meeting space.

Location
Set on the eastern shore of Kauai, the Kauai Marriott Resort is just five minutes from Lihue airport. It is centrally located for exploring, from Waimea Canyon 31 miles west to the Na Pali cliffs 38 miles north. The shops and restaurants of Poipu Beach are just 15 miles southwest.
Property features
After a $50-million renovation in 2010, this luxury gem shines anew. Rooms feature bold colors and sleek, contemporary furnishings with an island vibe. All rooms have new luxury bedding, Internet access (fee applies) and a refrigerator among the upscale touches. There are six restaurants, including a morning coffee bar, with Italian, Japanese, seafood and international in the culinary mix. The Kauai Marriott Resort has long catered to romance -- an average of 100 couples a year tie the knot here -- and one option is a private waterfront dinner in a gazebo or cabana (reserve three months out).
Highlights

The resort has five restaurants on-site to handle all of your dining needs. Kukui's Poolside Restaurant and Bar offers Pacific Rim-inspired cuisine, and the Kalapaki Grill offers quick bites while relaxing at the pool. Toro Tei is a premier Japanese restaurant, and The Aupaka Terrace offers traditional American fare.

Duke's is a Hawaiian staple, and the restaurant's convenient location at the hotel adds to its popularity. The Kauai Marriott Resort in Lihue is centrally located and only 1.3 miles away from Lihue International Airport (LIH). The resort has an on-site gym that offers cardio equipment, free weights and yoga balls. Guests also enjoy relaxing in the resort's whirlpool.

Relaxing Kauai Family Vacation

Initially driving up to the resort I was a little disappointed about our choice. The exterior looks a little more dated than I had expected. However, as we entered and checked in, I could not be happier with the service and the hotel grounds. The service at check-in was friendly. We were upgraded to a partial ocean room, and they even gave my two-year-old a sand pail and shovel to play with at the beach (it's the small details that matter in my book). We were extremely satisfied with the cleanliness and look of our room. I believe we were in a remodeled room. My toddler absolutely loved the wading pool with water slide, and the adult pool was absolutely gorgeous! The location was ideal for us. There are several different restaurants within walking distance. We recommend Duke's! The resort also offers family friendly activities. My little one loved feeding the giant koi fish. On one of the nights they had an outdoor screen on the beach for family movie night. All in all, we had a wonderful experience and will be returning for any future trips to Kauai.

Great location between North and South Shores

First, let's start with the bad: This place would get 5 stars BUT because of their complimentary offering: only 1 mai tai OR 16oz coffee OR 1 pastry, per person (and this is NOT even per day). We stayed for 6 nights and are paying a daily resport fee + tax so they should have offered at least a continental breakfast, if not a breakfast buffet (or else fork out $29 per person). Dinged 1 star for that. The Good (and plent of them): The hotel is beautiful: the architecture, decor and plants all contribute to a tropical atmosphere. The hotel has a lot of open air spaces so on a hot day you get plenty of cool breeze from Kalapaki Beach nearby. The main pool is really big with plenty of jacuzzi's. The room was kept very clean and the daily maintenance is great as well. The view from the room is also nice because of Kalapaki Beach and the mountains in the backdrop. The location is great as it's midway between North Shore and South Shore with plenty of beaches and gem towns along the way. It's also convienently located close to Lihu'e Airport. Plus you can take a walk to local shops and restuarants if you don't feel like eating at Kukui's (the hotel's on-site restaurant). Overall, beautiful location and they have Kalapaki Beach Hut nearby which has the one of the best burger I've ever tased: Kaua'i Burger. They also serve good breakfast there so you can skip the hotel's offering and save some money for good eats.

Amazing SURPRISE 40th Birthday Trip

I surprised my husband (up to the boarding gate to Kauai) with this trip. I wanted to find a resort where we could rent paddle boards as he is an avid paddle boarder. Little did I know that this would also be the perfect place to learn how to paddle board waves! It was perfect and we loved staying there and exploring the island.

Service lacking

Convenient location at Kauai, easy to get around. Parking near the "ocean facing" rooms are virtually non-existent. You either park extremely far away or rely on paid valet. The ocean facing aspect that we paid a premium for was somewhat misleading and offered a slightly better view than any other rooms. The onsite food establishment including Dukes are generally lacking in quality. I ordered grilled salmon and the middle was still cool. Overall, not the honeymoon that we were hoping for.

Great Kauai Vacation

Marriott Lihue is a lovely hotel with incredible views of the fabulous pool, surrounding mountains and ocean and bay. Big hotel with beautiful property centrally located for day trips to south-west sides of island, and to east-north attractions. Easy drive to anywhere. I enjoyed the fancier features of the hotel (art, gardens, etc.) but the surroundings maintained a laid back feeling overall. Many families and kids, but hotel and pool area were neither noisy nor messy. Just lovely Kauai every day.
