Opulent Poipu resort is both playground and blissful retreat
Acres of saltwater lagoons and freshwater pools, grottos, waterfalls, and an extravagance of tropical blooms create a setting so lush it could be a movie backdrop for the ultimate island love story. Tranquil but playful -- who can resist a 150-foot water slide? -- the AAA Four Diamond Grand Hyatt Kauai inspires thoughts of paradise. For spa-lovers it may well be paradise since Anara Spa added its blissful garden sanctuary. Yet golfers, kayakers and tennis players will also find idyllic ways to while away the hours … or days.Highlights
- 45,000-square-foot Anara Spa
- Camp Hyatt (ages 3-12), now partnered with National Geographic Kids
- Adjacent Shipwreck Beach, where "Six Days Seven Nights" was filmed
Rooms
Decor at the Grand Hyatt Kauai is "Classic Hawaiian" with warm hues and rich woods. There are more than 600 rooms, each with lanai or balcony, but the resort doesn't feel crowded thanks to meandering paths and waterways that create a multitude of secluded, peaceful areas.Features
It is hard to peg the resort as ideal for couples or families, lovers or adventurers, golfers or kayakers, because it is for all of the above. Romantics find hidden nooks among the gardens and lagoons and in the serene spa. Tranquil lagoons beckon to kayakers while golfers can take the challenge posed by Poipu Bay Golf Course, where distractions include whales breaching just offshore. Parents have bonding time with children during cultural and family activities, and adult time while kids play and learn in highly regarded Camp Hyatt. A twice-weekly luau and Polynesian revue is for everyone.Dining
There are nearly a dozen restaurants, bars, and snack venues at the Grand Hyatt Kauai, including an espresso bar where caffeine junkies can jump-start the day at 5:30 a.m. Stevenson's Library channels the ambiance of a Victorian gentleman's club (ladies welcome), a cozy spot for late-night Cognac or Port. Reserve in advance to dine at Dondero's, the only AAA Four Diamond restaurant on Kauai.Transportation

Worth It !
You will be more than happy with the Grand Hyatt. The grounds are lush and beautiful, the view is breathtaking, the restaurants are top notch, and the pools are stunning. Is this place a bit more pricey than most places.... yes. Is it worth the price.... absolutely. Treat yourself and enjoy a stay at the Grand Hyatt.

unsurpassed management
When I arrived at the reception desk, I was told they were expecting me "next week".The clerk went to the back and spoke with the manager. They apologized for the mix up. My friend and I stayed in a Garden View room for 3 nights but then were moved to a "Deluxe Ocean View". We were delighted in their grand gesture and enjoyed whale watching from our bedroom patio. Awesome room and again kudos to the management staff at the Hyatt.

A real treat!
Loved this hotel! The pools were amazing and I loved the water slide. The food in the restaurants was fantastic, but you really pay for it. But you also get what you pay for! I could easily spend an entire vacation here without leaving! The room was comfy and the staff was friendly and accommodating. Overall, it really added to the experience of being in Kauai.

Short drive from hotel
Nothing was included in our room price, meaning we paid extra for the coffee and water in the room, upgraded wi-fi, and the self-parking. There's a Wal-Mart 15-20 minutes away where we shopped for water, snacks, wine and other things, which helped us save some money.

Very impressive in many ways (pools, parrots and many other things). Could easily spend a week at the resort and still not do everything. For someone who does their research, perhaps better value can be found elsewhere.

Great honeymoon
My husband and I traveled to Kauai for the first time this January and made the excellent decision to stay at the Hyatt. Make sure you tell them if it is your honeymoon or anniversary - they delivered champagne to our room and we also got a cabana rental and a complimentary dessert. We ate at Dondero's one night and it was pretty good. The concierge told them it was our honeymoon and they delivered two special desserts and tea to us for free which was great. The service was excellent. We also booked a helicopter tour and a zipline tour with the concierge which were AMAZING. Worth every penny. I especially loved the ziplining.

Great Couple Vacation
This resort was the best in the island. It was so big that you never felt crowded by people. There was always recliners & cabanas available poolside. There were also many hidden hot tubs for private time. I enjoyed the free spa activites like the yoga, meditation & aqua aerobic classes. And the daily koi fish feeding, swan feeding, and parott play made each morning magical. The prices were high for the food & drink. :(

Great Hotel in a fantastic location
We stayed at the Grand Hyatt for 7 nights from Jan. 14-20. It is a great property, with a unique and welcome swimming pool arrangement. Probably one of the best designed pool areas I have ever seen. Nice beach with a great path to walk along. Cannot go swimming/snorkeling from hotel beach due to rough seas. As with many hotels, the on-site restaurants are average quality at 5-star prices, although Yum Cha for breakfast was great. Other than that, we stuck to the other restaurants in Poipu. Easily the nicest hotel in the area, and the price indicates that.

Nice vacation
The Hyatt is a wonderful hotel, with an excellent and helpful staff. The food at the restaurants is very good, the rooms were nice size, clean and comfortable. Because of noise and a defective shower we had to move twice and there was no wi-fi in the rooms which made it very inconvenient to get emails done. The beach is nice but not great, however if you surf the break at the hotel, Shipwrecks, is fun an uncrowded.

Spectacular and Breath-Taking!
We spent a week at the Hyatt in January 2012, and it was the best week I can remember in a LONG time. The resport was peaceful, clean, romantic, fun, relaxing and so beautiful I can't even describe it. There were moments that I just wanted to sit and take it all in because it was so beautiful. The whole area is amazing. I highly recommend it to anyone - familes, couples, business or just a get-away for no reason. You won't be let down.
