Great Experience

We were in an "ocean view" deluxe villa, but the actual view was mostly pool and lounge area, with a small view of the ocean. However, it was only a 1 min walk to the pool, and another minumte to the the beach. Very friendly and accomodating staff. We were very happy with the room--very clean. One disappointment was that hotel's reward program cannot be used when booking through discount travel sites.

Affordable Family Luxury

What a beautiful, luxurious place! We were a family of 10 (grandparents, children and grandchildren). We had two 2-bedroom units and they worked perfectly for our needs. This is a great option for families of five. The rooms were exceptional in size, especially the bathrooms. They were the largest bathrooms I have ever seen. Shower was great - great water pressure and plenty of hot water. Great double closet and great exceptionally comfortable king size bed. Everyone loved the pool and ocean. We stopped at COSTCO right out of the airport and stocked up on breakfast and lunch items. With a group of 10, this saved a lot of money. We barbequed 2 nights and ate breakfast most days in our rooms. I definitely recommend not getting cleaning service every day and get the breakfast buffet voucher instead. Take advantage of the free shuttle to go to Lahaina (you have to pay to park in most places in Lahaina). Be sure to take the shuttle to Black Rock at the Sheraton - you will be able to snorkel and swim with the turtles. The turtles like to feed along Black Rock in the afternoon between 2-4 PM. This was a highlight of the trip. Don't miss the sunsets - great photo ops! Love Maui and the aloha spirit.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

Look in magazines from airport for various coupons. Great places to eat are Kimos and Cool Cat in Lahaina. Cool Cat has great burgers, and Kimos has everything great (loved the ribs in plum sauce and you can't miss the famous Hula Pie!) A great place to eat in the town of Paia is Manegros (large portions and reasonable price). Great food and atmosphere is Dukes at the Honu Kai in Ka'anapali (check magazines for free appetizer or Hula Pie). If you are considering ziplining and have children under 10, definitely go to Maui Zipline. Great staff, great with kids (and adults) who might be a little frightened (that zipline is HIGH!). They are very patient and comforting and lots of fun. Try to pre-book whatever you can online before you go - most places have reduced rates. If you'd like a short hike in the rainforest, check out Hike Maui and ask for Tony as your guide. You will learn alot.

Good stay, a little room for improvment, arrival not great

Arrival was a failure, they have a shuttle but don't pick up from the airport 1 mile away, not a major failure just a lost opportunity for them to impress you. They lost a major opportunity by delaying our check in. I stay at many hotels each year and this was a first experience for me. They would not allow check in before 4pm period. The reason they stated was room not ready. I find it hard to believe that all rooms become available at 4pm. We arrived at noon usually a good time to arrive, but were told room would not be ready until 4pm. I rated the staff for this as they could have done a lot to make this a better wait. Usually when you are very patient you get a little bit of a benefit like a better view, did not happen. I honestly believe they waited to assign our room to make sure all premium customers got the best rooms (I am not a conspiracy person really). They assigned us the room that is the farthest from the beach still meeting the partial ocean view legally (we were exposed to a ton of highway noise in this room and could only see the ocean from the corner of our Lanai. Fantastic location on Ka'anapali Beach. We saw many whales from the pool or just on the beach. They are a little conservative with beach towels with cards to control charging you if you lose one (not typical of a high end hotel like Westin). Beautiful rooms with nice amenities like huge whirlpool tubes and large high end tiled showers. The kitchen and washer/dryer in room was great. They could make the on site store a little more reasonable but the grocery store is close by. Overall great location, great room, Concierge was selling a little too much and not serving, but ask for Sherry she was great!!

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

Go to Farmer's market close by maybe 1 or 2 miles. Kind of a whole in the wall all organic and natural foods. We saved money here it was much less than the local grocery store on fresh vegetables. It doesn't look impressive but great local grown fruits and veggies.

Beautiful resort

This was our first trip to Maui and we loved it! The service at the Westin was superb. We were on a tight budget so reserved the least expensive room but when we checked in, they upgraded us to a one bedroom suite! Fantastic!! Everything you'd need. Please we got two free buffet breakfasts every day. The best part was the landscaping and pools. Couldn't be more beautiful. Also the family atmosphere was superb. We had our 2 year old grandson with us and he loved it. We will definitely return, if the opportunity arises. It was an unforgettable vacation.
