Set amidst 27 acres of tropical oceanfront gardens and lawns, fronting the best and most exclusive half-mile stretch of Kaanapali Beach, the Royal Lahaina Resort is a truly unique Hawaiian Resort.
The resort's original garden and oceanfront cottage accommodations, located throughout the resort gardens, evoke a quaint beachside experience reminiscent of Hawaii's Plantation Era. While the 12-story Lahaina Kai Tower has just completed a 30 Million-Dollar refurbishment, it features luxurious island inspired guestrooms and suites celebrating the artistry, environment and culture of Hawaii.
Cottage Rooms, as well as Family Cottage Suites with kitchenettes, are available. All cottage units are resort owned, feature daily maid service and offer a uniform island-style decor with casual wicker furnishings.
Guestrooms and Suites in the Lahaina Kai Tower feature tasteful new decor and luxurious appointments hand-selected by Hawaii's top Interior Designer. Custom designed to entice the senses and connect guests with their tropical surroundings, each room features rich teak furnishings and fine natural materials, as well as state of the art technology and in-room entertainment such as HD Flat Screen Televisions, Cordless Phones, Wi-Fi, and Ipod ports.
Located within the Kaanapali Beach Resort, the Royal Lahaina is a short walk from the Whaler's Village Shopping and Restaurant complex, and is three miles north of historic Lahaina Town, the former Royal Capital of Hawaii and rowdy 19th century whaling port, which is now celebrated for its historical points of interest, quality shops and galleries, world-class restaurants and exciting fun-filled night life.
The resort features two oceanfront swimming pools, is adjacent to the two Kaanapali Resort Golf Courses, and has been named among the top 100 tennis destinations in the world, with an 11 court Tennis Ranch.
The professionally staffed Royal Lahaina Beach Activities Center can provide assistance with beach cabanas and a multitude of leisure pursuits, including snorkeling, scuba, and full PADI scuba certification courses.
The Royal Lahaina Resort offers unique dining experiences at two on-property restaurants. The Royal Ocean Terrace Restaurant and Lounge combines traditional American favorites, Fresh Seafood and Pacific Rim specialties, in an open-air setting overlooking the crystal blue Pacific and the neighboring islands of Lanai and Molokai. Each evening as the sun sets a traditional torch-lighting ceremony is presented and throughout dinner service a graceful hula dancer and solo musician perform Hawaiian classics. Basil Tomatoes offers Italian cuisine in a casually elegant atmosphere offering wonderful views of the Kaanapali Golf Course and Maui Coastline.
Guests can also relax and enjoy cocktails at the resort's ocean-side Barefoot Bar, or enjoy specialty drinks including the Original Mai Tai, and live Hawaiian music, at the Don The Beachcomber Tiki Lounge.
The resort is also home to the very popular Royal Lahaina Resort Luau, and draws guests from the entire island to enjoy an unforgettable celebration of the food, dance, music and traditional festivities of Hawaii and the Polynesian Islands.
NEW Resort Services Include: Seamless check-in; Valet Parking for just $15 daily; Self-parking for $10 daily; Optional Paradise Value Package includes newspaper, in room safe use, local and 800-calls, two Mai Tais, and self parking for $16 per day or receive all of the same inclusions with valet parking for just $21 per day.

Free upgrade too higher floor. We had floor 10 which was excellent view. I doubt I would want a floor lower than floor 5 now ... that I have been there. Excellent service and friendly staff. Honeymoon on the beach...
Honey-mooners Upset Nov 2, 2009
I recently traveled to Hawaii for my honeymoon with my wife. We stayed in an ocean-view cottage. Location was AMAZING. ... Food at the hotel restaurant was very good. Lots to do inside of a 10-15 minute drive. The service was very good. The BAD NEWS is the room. The walls were PAPER-THIN. I couldn't hear the TV over the A/C without the next door neighbors pounding on the wall. Also, they had a baby that woke us up at about 6 every morning. Everything on the trip was a blast, but the room alone left me upset. Oh yeah, and one last thing. I'm not the pickiest about thing being cleaned. But we had roomservice for breakfast and my wife spilled a little coffee on the sheets. That afternoon when we got back our room was cleaned but the same coffee stained sheets were there. Not very nice for an expensive room.

There are a ton of attractions to do that are close by. I would have to recommend a rental car to get around because there is a lot to go around and do. The dinner cruise was the best food we had while we were there, and had a live magician that was a lot of fun/funny (The Spirit of Lahaina[...]). When you get to the hotel they have a desk to help you plan as much as you want to do. It is a slow moving line though and only one worker at a time.

Enjoyable Stay
Just Jon Nov 1, 2009
I enjoyed my stay at the Royal Lahaina. My "Garden View" Suite actually had a view of the ocean from the balcony. The room ... decor was very relaxing. I was always greeted by the staff with a friendly "Aloha." The hotel is perfect if you want to spend your whole stay on the property. They offer beach front swiming, pools, sun bathing, and a Luau on site. Not so great is the fee for access to the Internet. Be advised that the Royal Lahaina is not actually in the town of Lahaina it is about 10 minutes away. Also, most Island activities require a drive of about 45 minutes or greater to get to. ( Helicopter Tours, Original Zipline Tour, etc.) Overall a positive experience.
Traveler type: Single
I found the CD "On The Road Again - Hana Audio Tour" to be a useful companion while making the trip to the other side of the Island. It also features local musicians.

Very Very Nice
Travelin' Bruce Oct 28, 2009
The hotel was very nicely appointed with great access to the rooms, the restaurant, the beach, a great luau and shopping. ... The only improvements I would have appreciated would be the bathroom mirror being closer and better illuminated (it's about 3 feet from where you stand) and the parking stalls are too narrow resulting in numerous door dings and it is difficult to enter and exit the vehicle, plus it cost us 10 dollars a day to "self park".
Traveler type: Family
The eco-adventure zip line was awesome as was Front Street in Lahaina but I suggest a sport utility vehicle if you wish to drive the road that follows the eastern coast line. It is rough, narrow, and a lot of curves, but a great drive nonetheless.

Great location for a resort. Shopped at Whalers Village, which was in walking distance from our resort. And loved the option ... of the free trolley to/from Whaler's Village to/from our resort. Short distance to Pineapple tour and Zip line adventure through Kapalua Adventures on Office Road from our resort. Nice drive to resort from airport. Lahaina was short drive from our resort and was a great little town to shop and bar hop for my sister's birthday. We totally loved Maui and all it had to offer. Highly recommend this resort to anyone that wants to go to Maui!! The staff was so helpful in finding places and transportation to get to places. Best vacation I ever had!!!

Our first room was a cottage and it was run down and dirty. We asked to be moved to the newer tower, and that room was ... fine. We were disappointed that the hot tub was far away, small and run down. The pools were not special. The location was fantastic and the beach was beautiful. The staff was attentive and helpful.

Beautiful location for a Wedding
dandi Oct 26, 2009
We were there for a friends wedding, which took place right off from our cottage room. It was a beautiful setting for this ... special occassion. Closer ice machines to the cottages would have been more helpful and the beds/pillows were not very comfortable. Upgrade to vallet parking, because you will be charged for parking anyway. We did not know there was a daily charge of $10.

This hotel is located on the most beautiful strip of pristine beach. It was not crowded, but was pristine and peaceful and ... GORGEOUS. The hotel is newly remodeled and clean and the service was good. Great view from a partial oceanview. The price for this location was very cheap in comparison....we would definitely recommend this location for couples. We drove the Road to Hana and back and still enjoyed a luau in time. Perfect spot!

The first night we got there right as the sun was setting...WOW! The weather was PERFECT every day! It was just me and my ... husband so everybody was asking if it was our honeymoon and treating us with such respect. They also gave us a free bottle of champagane! They had a lot of free extras like: tiki carving, hula dancing, yoga, and a free sun set photo. The snorkling was great! We went to the ABC store and purchased our own gear (much cheaper) and about 30 yards up the beach is a crazy reef that was better than our snorkling trip with a guide. I didn't know that parking was $10 a night untill I got there. That was kind of a bummer but not the worst thing that could have happened. I would tell everyone to get an econmy car because the parking spots were some of the smallest spots I have ever seen in my life! The only thing that I'd naysay is that in the 6 days we were there they had 8-9 weddings on site. The first night it was cute but then it was crazy. There were bridezillas running around the hotel bossing people around and being rude to everyone around them. There were frazzled people and drunks everywhere and loud music. I understand that its a big day and all but have some respect for the other people that are on vacation. We don't all have rich daddys that pay for the whole family to go to Maui whenver they want. They should have a seprate area for those kind of events!

The Hana Highway/7 pools...all maps will say that you need to go see it. DON'T!!! The road/drive was THE most stress filled drive of my life! Not only was it full of twists and turns, it also turend into one lane roads without warning for 10-20 yards. The locals don't yeld when your on the one lane bridges, they drive 40 MPH on the 15 MPH roads and drive in the middle of the road. When I was on one of the bridges and 2 other cars were stoped waiting a local swirved around them and almost hit me head on! If you do want to go see everything find a local or take a chopper! I ended up getting so angry and stressed that at the 14 mile mark I was fed up and just turned around! Just stop at the twin falls, that is a safe road and a great stop.

Alejandro Jalapeno Oct 22, 2009
We have stayed at the Royal Lahaina many times over the last 20 years, and we have been satisfied every time. We always stay ... in the cottages, as we love the quaint feel as opposed to the hotel rooms (never been inside a hotel room there). For a beachfront resort, it is a great value, and the beach is MUCH less crowded than the other side of Black Rock. The staff is always friendly and helpful, although there was quite a bit of trash around the resort this time. It is walking distance from Whaler's Village, and there is are grocery stores within a 5 minute drive to the north and south. There is a small store on the resort grounds for snacks, drinks, and gifts. You can certainly go fancier, but for a great, uncrowded beach, and an older but still great resort, we'll keep coming here for another 20 years.
Traveler type: Family
For great snorkeling, take your gear and walk south down the path, and go through the Sheraton to the beach by Black Rock. (You can also swim around the point, if it isn't stormy) Go early in the day, before the wind and waves kick up.

There is much to see on the island of Maui. My husband and I only had a week there, so most of our trip felt like we were rushing around to see every landmark. The last two days of our trip, we just couldn't do it anymore, we had to lay on the beach! As we were getting on the plane to come home, I asked my husband what his favorite part of the trip was and he said "Lounging by the pool, sitting next to you, looking out into the ocean with a drink in my hand." My advice is to definatley make time to relax and soak in the scenery! RELAX!
