Area description
Located along the beautiful west coast of Maui, Kahana is perfectly situated between Lahaina and Kapalua, surrounded by Maui's spectacular natural beauty. Kahana lays between the lush West Maui Mountains, and the Pacific Ocean. Kahana has plenty of terrific restaurants and shops, but is closer to nature than the crowded Ka'anapali/Lahaina area just down the coast. The location is excellent for vacationers who want to be near the local attractions and amenities, but far enough away to enjoy peace and quiet.

Great View

The view was spectacular. The condo had all the usuals, except one, no air conditioning. I assumed it would have it. I would not have stayed there had I known. This really took away from a place that would otherwise rate above average. There is no onsite staff.

Very comfortable, enjoyable

Our condo (#103) was very well equipped, clean and ready for us. We found everything we needed just at the right place. We particularly enjoyed the good quality of cutlery etc. in the kitchen. The patio was good to sit out early morning or late evening (we never spent any days in the room). We never used the pool, but it looked rather small. One suggestion: may be they should provide a few beach towels; there weren't any spare towels. The location (Lahaina) is quite far from any of the West / South activities (Hana, Halakela, Wailea, beaches at Kihei). It took us minimum 1 hr to get to center of the island before we could go in any direction. And the drive back at the end of a long/tiring day was too much. Maybe we should have stayed closer to the center of the island - may be in Kihei (too commercial) or in Wailea (too pricey).

We'll be back

If you get an updated unit, Kahana Reef is the place to stay at. That's exactly what we got and we were vary happy. Next time I will ask for the same unit. The owner of the unit did a great job remodeling and designing it.

Great value, clean and comfortable!

My husband and I stay a week here when we were married! It was very clean, roomy and comfy. For the price per night you can not beat it! The complex was taken care of, wasn't over crowded and was close to food and the HWY to explore the island. This part of the island is in the NW section so some of the hot spots are south but it is a quieter and relaxing area. If you decide to take the Road to Hana... you are close to your starting point but will have a long trip on the way back! Enjoy!

If you are traveling with a group it might be worth your effort and money to grocery shop at Safeway and make your own food at the condo!

Kahana Reef - Maui

We enjoyed our stay at the Kahana Reef Condominiums in Maui. We found the location to be convenient, quiet, and easy to find. We took in some of the local eating hot spots, and cooked - in twice during our stay. While in Maui we went on a dive boat charter, were lucky enough to see some wild bottlenose Dolphins. We went to Central Maui and zip-lined through the rain forest. We really enjoyed the excusion. We also rented a car (a must in Maui) and explored the Island by car. If you choose Kahana Reef Condominiums, come prepared with your own vacation plans. There is nothing to do at the property, and there is no one there to assist you - even though the signs states that there is someone in the office during business hours. PACK YOUR OWN BEACH TOWELS! If we would have known that this is purely a "condo home" with no support, we would have made our plans (Day trips & excursions) before coming to the Island. Overall, the experience was relaxing and very quiet! We would come back for another visit if and when we return. If you want parties and beach activity, this place and Maui for that matter, are not for you. We live in Thailand part of the year, and found Maui to be very clean but not as interesting as that part of the world. The food is only average at best, (with the exceptions of those that we mentioned above)and the night life lacking.

Here are our dining suggestions: In Lahaina on 845 Front Street, Kimo's Seafood - and have the Mai Tai's & 14 oz. Prime Rib...over the top! At 1285 Front Street, Aloha Mixed Plate - great Hawaiian food, drinks and value - a place where the locals frequent! In Paia at 2A Baldwin & the Hana Hywy, Paia Fish Market - best Fish & Chips , Fish sandwiches in Hawaii period! In Kahana at: 910 Honoapiilani Highway #55 the Maui Brew Pub - great locally brewed beer. Interesting and delicious Imperial Coconut Porter - Yummy stuff! The "Bar Food" is good as well. You can also visit the brewry in Lahaina for a tour & tasting. We would not recommend Sansei's Seafood & Sushi Bar, well known in Maui and way over rated from our experience. First of all, there is a one week wait for dinner reservations. You can stand outside an hour before they open like we did, and we were seated in the first seating...but it was disappointing. But Great Marketing scheme! This place is expensive, and the food - confusing fusion. The Sushi was not remarkable, and we feel there are better choices for dining on the Island.

A Pleasant Surprise

We loved the location(right on the water) and the tastefully decorated and clean condo! It was a quiet retreat, yet an easy drive to restaurants, snorkeling beaches, day trips, etc. It was so nice, that we couldn't wait to get back each day to enjoy the condo and sit on the lanai. We would go back in a minute! We stayed in #321 and it looked like the other condos were nice, too.
