1st trip to Hawaii
Overall, we were very happy with the hotel. The room was big and the bed was very comfortable. They were doing work above our room, so a nap was not happening. My one complaint was upon arrival at 2:30, a room was not ready. Yes, check- in is at 4, but you normally can get in a little earlier. Besides, the place did not look that crowded throughout the whole week. Anyways, a manager greeted us and wanted us to come with her for our vacation package. We did not go because we had friends waiting for us, so we went with them to go eat right away. Literally, we get in our car and about 5 minutes of driving, we get a call that our room was ready. We had heard they push time shares on you. We believe we were told our room wasn't ready, even though it probably was, so the manager could talk to us about this. On the other hand, the breakfast buffet I highly recommend; especially if you can sit right next to the doors that open and have a beautiful view of the ocean.

Got Relocated to a Nearby Resort
The ratings are based on what we saw during the timeshare presentation. Yes, you read that correctly, TIMESHARE. We didn't actually stay at the Kaanapali Beach Club. Despite booking a room at this resort, when we arrived, we were told that the Kaanapali Beach Club had overbooked and so we were being relocated to the nearby Honua Kai Resort. The person at the counter found our reservation among a pile of other apparently overbooked reservations. The KBC is located in a prime spot along Kaanapali Beach. However, it's a rather windy stretch of beach. The room we saw looked nice and clean. Of course, they showed us an ocean view suite during the presentation. We weren't forced to attend the presentation fortunately since we booked through Orbitz with no such commitment. Next time we'll avoid the timeshare presentation--typical high pressure, tag team, sales pitch. They tried to tell us that they weren't selling timeshares though they were. Now where we got relocated was the newer Honua Kai resort nearby. Beautiful luxurious full-ownership condos instead of timeshare units. Very nice units and much newer than KBC. Once we arrived at Honua Kai, we had no complaints except for the strong winds. The Honua Kai units have full kitchens and even washer and dryer. We were thrilled.

Long walk from hotel
Duke's Restaurant serves very good food. Make sure you get the coupon for a free dessert. Popular among the locals is the Honowakai Okazuya for plate meals--the teriyaki beef is good, but the fish was meh. The Fish Market serves great fish tacos. At night, there is a taco truck in the same lot as the Fish Market that's supposed to be good, but we didn't get to try it.

Great location, spacious room
Centrally located, great value! Exterior and pool are outdated, but the room and location makes up for it.

Family Getaway
We had a great time at this hotel. It was our second time staying here. Furniture inside the room needs to be updated (heard it will be replaced in another 2 years.) More activities at the hotel would be ideal. My son loved the slide and pool. Love that they give you plenty of rooms towels. Beach towels were a bit of a hassel with the towel cards. Parking $16 per day :(

our wedding vacation
We had a huge suite that had a great view. Flat screens, huge bathroom, kitchen with everything we needed, and spotlessly cleaned everyday. Waterfalls, pools, and spas everywhere. Tiki torches set the atmosphere and captured the aloha spirit. Great hotel at a great price.

Pleasant Family Getaway
Overall we find Ka'anapali Beach Club to be a very pleasant stay. The location is beautiful, pool and grounds are lovely and the room suites are very nice. Room service is mostly very good, although there were a couple of mis-timed room services during our 9-night stay using two rooms. The Ohana Bar and Grill poolside is standard to good, the breakfast buffet is so-so. The concierge service and desk service are excellent. This hotel desperately needs a fine dinner restaurant. This was my third stay and I completely avoided Diamond Resorts International's aggressive timeshare pitches, which are a complete waste of valuable time.

Kobe Steak House in Lahaina is pretty good, just be sure to allow a lot of extra time when you go there. Kimo's is overpriced. Merriman's in Kapalua is absolutely fabulous -- expensive but worthwhile, very romantic location. Hai'ilimaile General Store is excellent like Merriman's. Book well ahead of time if you can. I also highly recommend Sansei in Kapalua for sushi lovers.

Everyone was so pleasant and helpful. No hidden extra charges. The suite was gorgeous, spacious, and had a really well furnished kitchen so we ate two meals per day there. The waterslide and children's pool were great fun.

Hawaii vacation with the family
The hotel is located in a beach resort area in maui. Rooms are huge and very nice. Pool restaurant left a LOT to be desired. For such a hotel you'd expect they would have good cuisine around. Prepare to have a car to drive for better food alternatives.

This hotel is very aggresive when it comes to selling their time shares. Do not fall in their trap of putting up with their time shares sessions in order to get discounts on any of the island activities like helicopter rides or scuba diving. Just get the brochure and call yourself for info. Most places do offer discounts of their own. No need to go through the hotel.
