Excellent HoneyMoon!
Cristiano Nov 17, 2009
We were on our honeymoon and loved the hotel, the pool, the activities such as horseback riding and the tour under the stars ... was amazing. Sunsets were gorgeous and the water was warm even in Novembers. A few days though we weren't really sure what to do about food, unless we were prepared to spend atleast 60$$ for one meal. On some occasions we spent over $200 in one day for food :/

My boyfriend and I planned this trip for 6 months. It was the first real vacation I had ever taken. I expected more from such ... a highly rated hotel. There was only handful of the staff that were friendly. Which included one bellman, [...], he was awesome, Who we unfortunately didn't meet until the day we were leaving. And one concierge ([...], he was awesome too). Most of the other staff, from the front desk to the waitstaff and bartenders, were extremely unfriendly and made me feel we were bothering them by being there. I do understand the economy is not so good right now and it was a very slow time (Nov 1-7) but that should have been all the more reason for them to be a bit more pleasant. It was amazing how unhappy and unfriendly the local people of Hawaii are or at least come across as being which is funny because i was just reading that Hawaii ranks # 2 as happiest states. We found a cockroach (about the size of a quarter) in our bathtub the last morning of our stay. Thank goodness it was the last day otherwise I don't think I could have stayed there any longer or been able to sleep at night! When we mentioned it to the frontdesk, we didn't get much response or even aplology, more of a "yeah it's pretty common"....??? In a five star hotel, really? I was already aware of the need to stock up on our own waters since it can get pretty pricey for drinks and I knew there was a fridge in the room. On the second day we went for a swim at the pool and came back to the room to have some water and found the fridge wasn't getting cold. We go down to tell the front desk and were actually told "they don't get that cold. But I guess it wasn't a big enough deal to stop you from using our pool and other ammenities" He was laughing when he said it, so was probably joking...? but really what does that have to do with a fridge getting cold? Just another example of a not so friendly staff. We did meet quite a few friendly travlers that we compared hotel and condo prices with. I think next time I would just rent a condo which seems to be a couple thousand dollars cheaper. One of the main reasons I stayed away from doing so was not wanting to cook. The breakfast buffet included in our room was an awesome deal since it would have set us back $60 a day. But there's really not much rotation on what is served. There are about 6 items to choose from. The basics sausage, Bacon, eggs, french toast or pancakes, potatoes, oatmeal and cereal. Which means you are pretty much eating the same thing every morning and it can get pretty old. I actually wanted to cook after the 3rd and 4th day!. The pool is absolutely beautiful but the beach is where we wanted to be the entire time so we only used the pool one time so it was a waste. Especially to be charged a $15 resort fee for EVERY day of your stay. The fist day we didn't even check in until 8:30 pm and were charged as well as the last day check out by noon and still $15 resort fee. This seems a little much to me. All in all we had a fabulous trip because we were together and we got to fall in love again. If I ever go back to Maui I think i would even be up for camping on the beach. At least if a cockroach appears I'd understand. It really is a beautiful place but I was happy to come home to my mountains and friendly neighbors!

Great vacation!
Jodi Nov 8, 2009
We were at the Hyatt from 10/28 to 11/3 and we were very pleased with the resort. The grounds were very beautiful and ... perfect. We upgraded the room to a deluxe partial ocean view. I probably wouldn't do that again. I think the view from any room, would be great and cheaper - the hotel is so pretty and you were right on the beach anyway. Our room was very nice, but small. If you were out on the balcony and looked to the left, you saw ocean - very close. Each and every staff member made a point to greet you as you walked the grounds. The lobby had various parrots on perches who would also greet you. The penguins, swans, flamingos, etc. were also great. At checkout, we were charged a $15 daily resort fee, which we were not told about and thought should have been included in the overall price of the room. Kind of a sour way to end the trip but still worth it. Make sure you get the breakfast buffet included every day. It's wonderful and about $30 per person, per day, if not included. We would stay here again!

Great Place for a fun filled vacation!!

We visited Maui on our aunt's suggestion. It was kind of our Honeymoon, since we never had go to any place as honeymoon ... before. We chose Hyatt because it had good reviews and true it's reviews the Hotel was amazing. We just loved the place. IT is a on a prime location and easy to go around. We had rented a car and we were able to cover everything from the hotel. The staff were very friendly. The only incident that happened was, the room lock battery died, and it was so unfortunate it locked up and they had to break open the door. To compensate they provided us a late checkout time and also a free breakfast, value of $140. Luaau was good on the resort campus. Will definitely recommend it.

Although the resort itself is older the rooms have been recently updated and are very quiet with no "neighbor noise". We ... used the activies desk to book a snorkel trip and golf at a public course. All hotel staff that we delt with were friendly and helpful. We have also stayed at the Hyatt in Kauai and the resort on Maui compares favorably to the Kauai resort.

A lot to do on property, especially complimentary tours: hotel, wildlife, stars, nightlife at Umalu bar poolside, oriental ... garden, waterfalls. Jacuzi and pool are open 24 hours! Extra deals if Kama'aina ;) Try the furikake-garlic stix at Umalu and breakfast buffet with spectacular view! Hotel is beautiful, views are spectacular. Very good service, very friendly staff. Great pool and the garden around it. Two ... things I did not like was the children lunch menu nearby the pool restaurant that does not offer an acceptable food (I do not consider hot-dogs and chips an acceptable choice for infants). Second, the hotel has very narrow beach but the nearest beach is 10 min walking distance. Other than that it was a great place to spend our vacations.

I enjoyed the week we spent at the Hyatt. I was happily married at the hotel and have to say that [...] the wedding ... coordinator was "the best". We booked our package through [@] and recieved free breakfast each day. A savings of $30 per person. There is a mini fridge in your room so I recommend to go down to Lahaina and get some snacks and finger foods and fill it up to save some bucks. The service is great at this hotel and the views are breathtaking. You can enjoy a drink next to the bar in the grotto pool and the slide was fun no matter what age you were. Our party consisted of 30 people and not one person had anything bad to say...

My husband and I loved the hotel! We were welcomed with shell lais upon arrival and recevied a great honeymoon welcome ... package. We loved the honeymoon dinner reception and stayed long after it was over talking with another couple and at no time did we feel rushed or like we had to leave. The breakfast buffet was awesome but since it was included with our package it would have been nice for the tip to have been included as well. We loved the pool and the afternoon ice towels and popsicles. The staff around the whole facility was so nice and accomodating! We had a wonderful time, Thank you!

Make sure to plan at least $100 on dinner for 2 when eating at any nice sit down restaurant. Cascades, on-site restaurant was delicious, well worth the money! To save some money buy snacks and water to have at the hotel between meals, and bring travel mugs to have at the pool or on the go.

Overall it was a good stay at the Hyatt Regency in Maui. Cons: The room wasn't very clean. The bathroom had hair on the ... floor. We found two dead cockroaches in the room. Fortunately we didn't run into any live cockroaches during our stay. The hotel rooms could use some renovation, the colors and furniture all seemed very dated and or old. Not much of a beach after a huge storm hit the island a few years ago. Pros: The bed seemed to be very clean and was very comfortable. The service was prompt and helpful. The breakfast buffet was enjoyable, but pricey. The location is great, with shopping near by.
