My review of ResortQuest at Papakea Resort (formerly Aston at Papakea Resort)

The outside appearance was great, but the inside of our room was very dated.? The carpet was very dirty and it appeared that the room had never been updated.? We were very disappointed with this room and would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Great location & staff, poor management

We checked in around 4pm. We were present while another family tried to check in (they had booked through Vacations Internationl, and that apparently is a big mistake.) They overheard me talking about our ocean view, and said that they were told there weren't any ocean views, The employee tried her best to explain that the condos had many owners, and some groups did not own condos with a view. In response to their prior re She also told tham that the condo they had was ground floor, but it looked out on the parking lot they had requested a pleasant view

Scour through the guidebooks at the airport, and find all of the 2 for 1, and but 1 get 2nd at 50% off. it's worth the time. Everywhere we ate was great.

Disappointed

We booked an one bedroom "ocean view" and was assigned unit C303 that has a building view and a glimpse of the ocean if standing and peering out the balcony. Don't be mislead by "ocean view", we were informed at check-in that "ocean view" means second level or higher and that units at Aston are graded 1 - 3 and ours is graded as "1" - meaning the "best". If it was the "best", I dreaded to know what "3" - the worst looks like." Unit C303 bedroom was located almost beside the garbage cans area, parking lot and elevator which was very noisy early in the morning and made our stay not very relaxing. The mattress was lumpy and sagging and the kitchen was ill equipped, with very poor quality kitchen knives and utensils, pots and pans. The overall feel of this unit was dusty, cluttered with faked plants, pictures, and outdated. The garden and overall appearance of the buildings are well-maintained. Good location to shopping and tours if those are your interest but far from any kind of good hiking trails. The weather and people in Maui are great! We will definitely return to Maui but not too sure about returning to Papakea and certainly not to unit C303!

If going for a Luau, choose a sit-down type of Luau instead a buffet-style; cost more but worth it. We went to one on Front Street, believe it was called "Feast on LeiLei". Also, go to Maui during the Whale Season! and go on a Whale Watch Tour - a great experience!

No sand , can't get into the beach

Bad experience from the get go. We payed for an ocean view and got a "big palm tree view". Management was unwilling to provided another unit, but after threating to suit for fraud they got us a different room. The little air coinditioner at the patio door did poorly in keeping the room cool. Matress was old with a sink hole at the middle. There is no beach with sand, so we went next door and invaded their sanded beach. I'd rather pay more and stay at a better place.

Relocated due to Surprise Owners' Visit

I had originally booked this resort for our trip to Hawaii. When we went to check in at the resort, the front desk agent informed us that our reservation had been "upgraded" and we would now be staying at the Makana Aston resort a couple resorts down. When I asked for an explanation, she replied "the condo's owners had returned making the condo unavailable." We went over to the Makana Aston resort and had no problems checking in, however, we told their front desk agent the story and he said it might be because "there are many foreclosures happening at Papakae." Despite the setbacks, it was rather hassel-free for such a surprise happening.

Didn'[t get what I paid for

We stayed one night at Aston and had prepaid for an ocean front room. What we got was far from it. You had to stand on the balcony and stretch around the corner to see the ocean; barely even a partial view. The balcony faced an extremely noisy court yard. Also the ac was set to go off after 4 hrs. and a huge sign inside the room read " AC must be turned off when you are not in room ". The room was a very tiny studio. The bathroom was laid out poorly making it difficult to utilize. There was no cross breeze ventilation which made the temp. uncomfortable esp. when the ac kept shutting off.

away from the hustle and bustle

We thought the location was great. There was a nice beach at the complex but it was within easy drives to many other great beaches for swimming and snorkeling. The grounds were very well kept up. We enjoyed eating on the lanai and spending time at the beach which was a few steps away. The unit we used had the old and worn look however. The bed was saggy, the cupboards were well past their prime and the walls needed some fresh paint rather badly. The maid service was fine--it just needed some updating. Each unit was privately owned which we weren't aware of so that is something to consider if it is possible to request certain units.

Stop at Costco as soon as you leave the airport to stock up. It's really the only reasonable place to buy food.

affordable and convenient

The hotel had 2 pools that were quiet and sufficient. Nothing fancy, but comfortable and relaxing. They also have BBQ grills so if you want to pick up some steaks and grill, it is a good way to save some money and enjoy the pool. The hotel was not fancy and luxurious, but you cant beat the price. Everything was clean and the hotel is in a great location so everything is close by. There is even a supermarket within walking distance.

decent hotel

The hotel is nice and decent, we stayed in the tower and its upadted. But we had to pay $10 per day for self parking and the parking spots were really small. And the beach is not that good for snorkeling. Although black rock is jsut couple of minutes away.
