Great View

This was my 4th trip to Maui and must say this one of the nicest places yet. The place was clean, the staff very friendly and the views are beautiful. The biggest draw back to this place for me personally was the beach. There is a reef in front of this hotel than runs all the way along it and than some, so if your looking to swim you need to drive to another location. It is good for snorkeling however if thats what your interested in.Just not good for kids or swimming.

Not a well know place for tourists is the Maui Brewing Company. They have great beer, but also great food. The first night we arrived we went there for a Hawaiian style pizza (pork and pineapple), it was delicious!

Totally AWESOME

The minute we opened the front door we need we had picked the right place. Fourth floor, ocean view, unbelievable. The view of the ocean was amazing. The staff was friendly and helpful. Every adfternoon a large sea turtle would visit right out in fornt of our room. The only thing missing was a restaurant in the hotel but there are so many places to eat close by that it didn't really matter.

overall, quite nice

The best thing about the Mahana is the location. basically every unit is right on the beach. It is on the quiet end of a really nice beach. If you like some wave noise at night this is for you. But, its a condo so units vary. Ours happened to be a little dated. Sofa was missing a couple buttons, etc., but just small stuff. There is a grocery store pretty much right across the street which is handy. Limited dining options real close since there's no restaurant on site but its a short, and scenic, drive down to Lahaina, which has everything you could want. Mahana is a nice enough place, but the main plus is the location.

Overall Great Stay

Very nice staff and georgeous ocean view from every balcony. Maid service daily. Small one room with a murphy bed, but was enough for just the two of us. Major ant problem!!! They get on your food and makeup if you leave anything out overnight. Make sure you clean the counters often. Overall, would visit again. Close to great snorkeling, sandy beaches and has a pool and hot tub on property if you get tired of the ocean.

Comfortable and relaxing

This was a very relaxing place to stay. The ocean view is excellent. The staff was very accomodating. The swimming pool is small, but the beach is in the back yard!

Aston Mahana Kaanapali

The room was spacious, well appointed and had an exceptional view of the ocean. We were able to see numerous whales right offshore. It was great having a kitchen for breakfast and occasional lunches. The staff was friendly and the pool area was recently renovated. The beach is lovely for walking. Get the gate code from the front desk and walk over to Duke's at the resort next door.

Our third time - still great

This was our third stay in four years. First time we stayed a week, then two weeks, and this time three full weeks, skipping 2010. In the two years we've been gone a couple of new hotels have sprung up in the area, and this once secluded beach has become very popular and suddenly very busy at times. The Mahana is still the same in its great friendly service, very accommodating to meet all guests' needs. It's quite expensive, considering there are not a lot of amenities (no onsite restaurant, no exercise equipment, very weak wireless access, extra charges for using an inroom safe, etc.) But the close proximity to the beach and the extraordinary unobstructed views make it worthwhile. If what you're looking for is to truly relax, this is the best place to be! Especially in whale watching season, Jan/Feb/Mar, you will see whales all day long, passing right by your balcony. Very large balconies and every room is directly on the west facing ocean. Sunsets are great, star watching at night.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

Paragon Sailing is the best! They have the most friendly, economical, and fun sailing trips of all. We went on the Lanai all day picnic trip twice! Takes 10 minutes to drive to their Lahaina dock, and 25 minutes to their Maalaea dock. They provide snorkeling trips as well. Their advantage is they actually do sail, unlike other companies, and they only take a limited number of passengers.
