Great location at a reasonable price
Quiet beach adjacent to hotel that was away from the more crowded beaches near the Ka'anapali hotels. Convenient location close to many great beaches for snorkeling and swiming, good restaraunts, and excellent golf courses in Kapalua.

Great snorkeling at sheltered Honolua Bay just north of Kapalua on Rt 30 and great boogie boarding beach at Honokahua Bay (Fleming Beach Park) in Kapalua. Both are about 15 min drive North of the hotel.

Kaanapali Shores 5 Star Value
Kaanapali Shores was an excellent value. The resort was right on beautiful Kaanapali beach. Our room was clean and spotless. Our kitchen had new granite countertops and appliances. We really liked the way the doors to the balcony opened - it made it feel like Maui was part of our room. We left them open all the time. Maui weather is so perfect. The onsite restaurant was excellent - beautiful sunset dinner with a view of the ocean and beach. Make sure you get there for the specials between 5pm-6pm. Prime rib was very good. Walking distance to a small farmers market where you can pick up fresh "hawaiian" pineapple and fruits. We did this everyday and used the nice cutting board in our room to make fresh fruit salads. Kaanapali shores is right across the street from a small grocery store. Made breakfast and lunch in the condo unit and then had great meals out on the town. Great way to go if you are on a budget. We would definately go to this resort again!!

Enjoyable stay.
The only negative thing I could say, is that the pool by the ocean always had very loud kids playing ball and jumping in the pool. We got so tired of being splashed we would just get out of the pool. Sometimes you couldn't even figure out who the parents were. The kids were about 13 or 14 years old and maybe the parents just sent them down there for the day. We were there for a week and it was everyday!!!!

Great Loc...Not alot for ur buck!!!!
Location was exceptional.. carpeting was stained, had a kitchen with no blender, most of all was intending to work out every morning but was a 10 a day fee...total turnoff and never used the facility. Ate breakfast one day a waiter never came back with the change from my bill. Maid service was poor...bed was sloppy and never left towels last 2 days.!!!!

The rooms were cleaned daily, however, the staff was not receptive to a late check out even though we had a late check in. One would think that they would have been receptive to the need for a late check out. Other than that the Hotel experience was more than acceptable.

Recommendations for activities: Bike ride down the mountain. Not the Sunrise trip - too cold, Warren and Annabelle's Magic Club - without question the best! Dinner cruise was good, Pineapple Plantation tour was also good. Never forget the golf is excellent, although very pricey! Take your clubs or rent at the Hawaiian Golf Shop near the Outback restaurant.

beautiful suite in a cozy resort
The suite was superb: large cozy living room with nice kitchen, great view from the balcony, and the resort felt very comfortable and relaxing. The hotel restaurant was actually pretty good, although I generally prefer going out. I liked the hotel pools. When we booked a luau at the concierge, we specifically asked for details and wanted to go to a nice one. They recommended one in a 5* hotel nearby and although the performance there was very nice, their buffet, drinks, and service were just not good enough (especially the drinks were plain bad), and cannot stand in comparison with another luau I remember 2 years ago. So I cannot recommend trusting their concierge too much, but the hotel was really nice and we got a great price with the spring discount.

Very comfortable place
Room 835, a very comfortable 2 bed, 2 bath condo with very large, well-equipped kitchen was our home for 10 days. Washer/dryer was very convenient, but only one single-use box of detergent for the washer for a 10-day stay seemed stingy. We also had to pay $9/day for parking, $2.50/day to use the in-room safe, and $1.00/page to receive a fax. Maids spent on average 4 minutes/day, just to replace towels and make beds (not change sheets). The cleaning left a lot to be desired, especially since it's hard to avoid bringing sand in on your feet or shoes. As far as we know, the unit was never vacuumed. It was nice having a TV in both bedrooms and living room, and the stereo and DVD/VHS player were a bonus. Two pools and two spas meant room for everybody, although lounges on the beach were hard to come by. The rule is you can't "save" them, yet we saw that every day. The snorkeling off the beach was great, and you could walk 2-3 miles along the beach toward other resorts to pick other spots to snorkel. Our room faced the west so we enjoyed some really beautiful sunsets. It was easy to get our rental car in and out of the parking garage each day, and easy to walk across the street to get groceries, shop, or enjoy the bars/restaurants. There was a small flea market including fresh produce just a couple blocks down the road. If you're a Costco member, stop in Kahului when you leave the airport to stock up. Plenty of gas stations to refuel the rental car on the way back to the airport.

Definitely check out Whalers Village for shopping and book a Road to Hana tour, but skip the luau--it certainly wasn't an intimate experience and the show and food were not worth the money. Enjoy a special dinner at a water view restaurant instead.
