The Sheraton at Keauhou is a GREAT resort!

We just got back from a week at the Sheraton Keauhou. This is our 3rd trip to Kona. I will not have to look any further for our future accommodations. Paritial ocean view was better than an ocean view. The combination of looking out over Keauhou Bay, the landscaping of the resort and great views of Mauna Kea (or is it Mauna Loa..., can't keep the two straight). In any case, the resort was wonderful, albeit food and drinks are typical Kona overpriced! Considering you are not going to avoid the overpricing anywhere on the Big Island, I would give the resort a 5 out of 5!. Staff was very attentive and friendly. The manta ray viewing deck was second only to the Manta Experience Dive we did with Sea Paradise, just around the corner from the resort. This is a DO NOT MISS activity! You will never experience anything like it, whether you are a diver or snorkler!!!

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Keauhou Harbor is literally a 5 minute walk from the lobby. Fair Wind, Sea Paradise and a number of other operators are available for snorkling, scuba diving, kayaking, zodiac tours or fishing. Downtown Kona is a beautiful 10 minute drive up the coast on scenic Alii Drive. Don't miss Kahaluu State Beach for easy access snorkling.

Family Friendly

The Kona Sheraton is a place the family will love. The location and the pool are the best part. There is something for everyone but it really is made for the kids. The hotel was just remodeled and they have done a decent job with the upgrades. The rooms are spacious and provide great mountain or ocean views.

Nice Place to Stay

A very nice place to stay; excellent amenities. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and larger than expected. The hotel has a really nice pool but no beach facilities. I think the Big Island landscape does not afford beach access at all sites.

Nice, relaxed atmosphere

This hotel is very nice. I really appreciated the outdoor lounges. There is a lot of seating overlooking the ocean, and you are welcome to sit there as long as you like. You can even sit in their food lounges and not order and the staff is still happy to have you there. The pool is very clean, and I noticed several families with children spending all day every day just hanging out at the pool. Hotel restaurants varied in cost from reasonable to fairly expensive. All the staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful.

We found multiple farmer's markets and bought fresh produce and breads to eat. We ate that for breakfast on the balcony of our room overlooking the ocean.

PERFECT VACATION, SCREAMING DEAL

This was our first Orbitz package and I have to say it will be the first of many. We hae travelled widely and received perhaps the best services and support. I almost don't want to put in print some of the unexpected options and extras provided by this friendly, professional, relaxed staff. Keauhou does not provide its own Business Services and core services are different from what you'd expect from other Sheratons. Best ever of 8 trips to Kona.

super nice hotel

The hotel looked great. The staff was very friendly. We had a rental car so we drove around the big island to do various activities (ie. waterfall trail tours, and zip lining) (I'd definetly recomend the Zip Line tour which is the only one on the big island located in North Kohala (ask for Young Buck & Sirus to be your guides - they are the best and very funny) If you are traveling with kids, this hotel would also be great for them too. There are plenty of activities to keep everyon of all ages busy. We would definetly stay here again.

Best Resort on the Kona Side

I had read some of the other comments before I booked this trip and was a tad bit hesitant with some of the negative comments. Well, I just got back from my stay and I have to say it was the best looking resort out of all the other ones I had seen on the Kona side. Yes, it's a little bit older of a hotel and maybe the carpet in the room needs updating, but if you are going to complain about little things in your room, then you're in Hawaii for the wrong reasons. The resort has maintenance working at the crack of dawn cleaning the pools and landscaping every day; I saw them. Again, even though this resort is a little bit older, it doesn't really show its age compared to the King Kamehameha hotel. The Sheraton has 3 different restaurants and a bar that has free manta ray viewing at night. There are two restaurants that than can fill you up without breaking your wallet. The restaurant Kai is very nice but a bit pricey for dinner, but their breakfast buffet is worth every penny. I would recommend not to wait for a table in the evening when they are really busy. Even though you may get seated in 10-15min, you're going to have to wait to get served. All the hotel staff is very friendly, especially the Concierge. Don't be shy to ask her what she recommends to do outside the hotel, she's got a lot of info and great opinions about where you should visit. I also got a rental and yes paying $10/day for parking is a pain, but again, you're in Hawaii, they charge you to connect to the internet at most places. The public parking isn't as bad as other people have said it is. They now allow non-valet parking in their valet/employee parking lot for about 40 or so cars. I never had trouble finding a spot close to the resort. Overall, I have to say this resort is in my top 2 best places I have ever stayed for vacation.

Money-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

One of the first things you need to do when you get into Kona is to get a rental car. If you want to save a lot of money, do NOT rent a car from the airport. There is an Enterprise Rent-a-Car approximately 7 miles from the Sheraton. They will pick you up and drop you off from the Sheraton. The prices at this particular Enterprise are approximately half of what you would pay at the airport for the same exact vehicle.
