Hawaiian getaway for canoeing, dolphin swims, and Holoholo tours

Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay on Hawaii, the Big Island, is a blend of adventure, culture, heritage and authentic Hawaiian aloha hospitality. Situated on the iconic lava rocks of the Kona coast, overlooking historically significant Keauhou Bay, guests relax, experience and create memories with family and friends. The newly revitalized and completely unique oceanfront resort flourishes with naturally landscaped lands that were once the birthplace and playgrounds of kings which offer visitors a profound sense of place and storytelling that can be shared and appreciated across many generations. Considered the "Gateway to the Bay," the Flying Fish outfitters store provides an all-access pass to fun and adventure where guests can have immediate access to paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing, surfing, boat tours and exploring the pristine reef. The ocean view restaurants partner with local farms and fishermen to serve only the freshest ingredients. Rays on the Bay is the world's only restaurant where diners can enjoy live music seven nights per week by fire pit and observe majestic Manta Rays in their natural habitat. Under the stars, a weekly luau offers a colorful journey through history. Offering the most ultimate pool experience on the Kona coast, patrons rave about the 200-foot lava tube water slide, hot tubs, sprouting fountains and sandy-bottomed children's play area. Ho'ola Spa offers a healing Himalayan Salt Room and an oceanfront treatment patio. Whether culture seeker, romantic or ocean or land explorer, vacationers find themselves in the perfect location to discover and experience the beauty of Hawaii.

It was okay

The pool was the highlight of the hotel. We loved it! The staff were very friendly. The only thing that we didn't like were the ants in the room. They came out when food was brought into the room. It wasn't too bad.

Great Hotel Stay

The hotel itself was great. The common areas: pool, fitness center, and grounds all wonderful. The room was clean but a little out dated with the fixtures. The gym was 24 hrs very convenient. The room had a refrigerator and safe that was a plus, as well as balcony that was great and wonderful views. Parking was $10 a day, that seemed to be the case everywhere-even higher at other places. Location was good on the south end of Ali drive, away from traffic. I would stay at this hotel again, without a doubt. They have a luaa at the hotel on Monday nights-did not get a chance to go but the show could be seen from lobby areas and it looked pretty good.

Flea market in town was great for fresh produce and souveniers Hiked at the volcanoe - great. Went to Hilo great. The flea market there was best on island (Wednesdays and Sundays). Walmart cheepest place to get mac nut suveniers and 100% kona coffe, if you want estate coffee- Mountain Thunder and Kona Mountain excellent. If you are going to the volcano stop at the Panalulu Bakery and get a massalada-EXCELLENT. There is a snorkler beach 1/4 mile north on Ali drive. The turtles are right on the beach!! Renting a car is a great way to get around the island and see the different areas.

Sleep there, eat in town

The Sheraton was a fairly short drive from the airport, although there are no signs, so make sure that you have directions. Our room was clean and we could see a bit of ocean if you looked around the machinery outside our window. We planned to have lunch there upon arriving, but the only restaurant that was open had a very limited menu so we set off for town, which was close. Later that night we ordered something from another of the restaurants and it was tasty. Just make sure you aren't in a hurry because service was slow. The Bliss bath products and comfortable bed were our favorite parts.

Hotels have public access beaches. Head on over to the Four Seasons and tell the gaurd you're there for the public access beach. It was beautiful and practically deserted.

Big Island Sheraton

Nickle & Dime you to death. Start with parking, $10 to self park $18 to valet. Don't care about handicapped, they pay as well. Internet, $13 per day in your room, free in the lobby. Food costs were out of sight. We could hear the next door couples conversation and as soon as bey bey kids started moving around about 8 a.m., you could forget sleeping, too noisy. Families with kids should be placed in a part of the hotel by themselves. The carpet had a jelly stain from the date we arrived until the date we left. there was accumalated dirt under the dresser. The TV was old and the channels didn't match the guide. Run, stay somewhere else. No, I'm not cheap, my last trip to an outer Island we stayed at the Ritz Carlton................

Sheraton Keauhou Bay

Great hotel. The only disappointment was the distance from a beach...perhaps a 10 minute drive. After staying at a beach on an earlier part of our trip, they lack of a beach was missed considerably. Good water activities by car within a 15-minute drive.

Beautiful with many activities

The hotel was beautiful, pools were fun (don't miss the great slide), grounds lovely. Loved the nightly manta rays that came close to shore because of Sheraton's light on the ocean...just magical. The location is very close to kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, and a short drive to the "downtown" with many restaurants and shops. The restaurants at the hotel were terribly expensive and the food only so-so. We ended up going off site for most of our meals.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Don't eat at the hotel. Too expensive. They give you a small refrigerator in each room: stock up on drinks and snacks rather than buying the overpriced stuff.
