Unsatisfied exprience at Royal Kona Resort Hotel

I've booked this hotel 4 months in advance. I was placed in the room in the tower that faces the stage and the luau concerts are held every other day from 5pm till 8pm on this stage. The sounds of drums and music from the loud speakers was unbearable, it's impossible to have any rest even with all windows and balcony doors closed. I requested to change the room and had passive agressive attitude from the staff at the front desk. Finally, after insisting on changing the room, I was relocated to the room above the commercial air conditioner of their downstairs restaurant. Isn't it 'good care about their clients'? There were cockroaches in the room, the floor of the kitchenette and bathroom was dirty with the brown stains. There is no beach at this hotel, only tiny lagoon with the ice cold water as the hotel building actually blocks sun in the mornings. Please save your money and nerves, do not spoil your vacation, book some other hotel.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

Rent a car, drive to the Hapuna beach or better book the nearby hotel at this beach. It's only 25 minutes drive to the north from Kona airport but the beach and the ocean are gorgeous.

Horrible Choice for small children

The staff was friendly and did all they could to make things comfortable for our stay. Shortly after check-in the power went partially out to no fault of the hotel. No air conditioning, elevators were also out, kitchen in the restaurant went out. They did bring 2 portable fan's up to our room to compensate and granted us a very late check out to make up for the inconvenience. The balcony outside our room and railing outside of the room were clearly not up to code... really low and the spacing between was about 9" plenty of room for a small child to fall between falling several flights of stairs while trying to look at the fish in a small pond down below. Outdated accommodations, pictures on website must have been of the very best room they had. The view of an oven view room was the best thing about the stay.

Not the best experience

We did not stay in Hotel a lot as we were pretty packed with day schedule for family. We planned such that we returned to Hotel rooms in evenings/nights. It was 2 night stay. I did not find the hotel at par with cost paid. Parking fee was steep to park in lot and breakfast was paid buffet. Rooms were spacious and clean. No nearby water fountain so you have to buy lot of water. Bottom line it was pricey hotel resort with very little to no matching amenities. We also stayed at lower profile hotels but had great breakfast and service.

"Aloha Spirit Still remains"

From the front desk to the Grounds people and parking gate, very warm with Aloha. you can't find these unique people in many places. The rooms are large and spacious. we stayed in the main building which did not have a nice ocean view. The rooms desperately need a Renovation! old looking furniture, beds are not comfortable. Housekeeping knocked on our door even with the Privacy Card displayed just to ask what time we would be checking out, even after front desk appoved our 2pm checkout the day before. overall, it was OK. hopefully the owners put some capital into this property soon. I would only then, love to return yearly. Its very convenient to the town area.

Not that great!

The luaus at night were so loud that we had to turn our TV up to a ridiculous level just to hear it. The bathroom was so small that you had to know how to play the game of twister just to shut the door. Also, the shower was painful. It was an old showerhead that spit out the water in tiny pricks. Ouch! The outside looks very glamourous but deceiving since the room wasn't that great. You would think a hotel this size would have a jacuzzi but it didn't. Very surprising.

Needs rehab & Mai Tai bar a rip off

Great location for walking to downtown, bike riding, free diving and swimming. Staff didn't do a thing about the dirty carpet. Advised them of the condition first morning there. Hotel bar is a rip off. Expensive drinks little alcohol content. Outrigger Resort much better location and experience.

Royal Kona-August-2014

Great location on the big island of HI. The builidng is rather outdated (late 1960s). Amenities are OK. Does have a seaside enclave for a salty swim. The interriors of the detached building needs serious refurbishing. The carpets are old and the tiled floors are worn out. The off-season rate was competitive. Good Luau!

The Sheraton and Marriott are higher cost but much better options (not close to Kona City area).

On the ocean!

The rooms were comfortable and had a nice view. The staff provided some misinformation at times. The lounge and grounds are lovely. The drinks from the bar- not so good. The price was good.

Great Family Vacation

At first glance, really pretty exterior, and the location is awesome! Most of the staff were friendly, and so helpful! The extra fee for the full ocean view is what really made our trip! We didn't even mind the sounds from the luau, it was entertaining from our balcony! The pool is a little small, but their on site lagoon was awesome! I really enjoyed the snorkeling in a comfortable small setting with beautiful fish. Rooms are outdated, and they do not offer room service. Wifi fee is $10 per day, and parking is also $10 a day.
