Great Location in Kona

The view from our lanai on the third floor was amazing. In fact, it was the best part of our stay. Our room was noisy and needs to be updated. The entire lagoon tower needs to be refurbished.

Good hotel, but a bit rundown

The hotel is a cool design, but it is a bit rundown. There is ample evidence that the hotel managers are not putting any effort in remodeling or even properly restoring damages. There are many poorly made patches. However, the hotel is in good enough condition for the budget traveler. It was comfortable, quiet, the room was clean, and the service was good. The only issue was the pool looked dirty.

Average Experience

The hotel has good potential in terms of location, amenities, activities etc. May need some remodeling around the building. Had to actually switch rooms because the A/C was leaking water due to clogged and dirty A/C system. Most staff members are pleasant but the lady who checked us in and switched rooms the next day was unfriendly and unapproachable.

Royal Kona Resort 2011

We are an active 50 year old couple that hiked a bunch....my husband stayed here in 1968 when it was a Hilton...so it is an older hotel but is nice and clean...the staff are awesome...location fantastic...had a room with a view of the ocean which can be a bit noisy but we loved it...perhaps because of the way the hotel is built there is not much sound proofing and voices carry...especially from the lanai...takes forever to get a beer at the mai tai bar..and we are not talking about the busy happy hour .....

Hawaii Vacation for Two

Great location in the heart of Kailua Kona. We walked to town each night and did not worry about parking. Ocean Front Corner King had great views from Alii Tower. Buffet Breakfast was great each morning with 20% off coupons but get there early for good seating. Room was older but was clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. Luau 3 nights a week was very nice. The man who has hosted the luau for many years is much better than the woman who hosted the show one night.

Ocean Front View but Noisy

The Hotel was 3 buildings, only the middle main building is newly renovated the other 2 side buildings are old and in desperate need of the makeover. Be weary of the ocean front rooms as they provide a gorgeous view but also a sleepness night due to the constant crashing of the waves.

Single gal weekend getaway

The location of the hotel is great. You are within 2 minutes walking distance of Kailua village. Parking is easy too; often you can find free parkng on the street. The hotel grounds and rooms are decent and felt safe to me at all times (although I wasn't walking around late a night regardless); however, the standard room could use a better tv, better bed pillows and new bathroom shower head plus my shower looked like it had a little mold here and there on the shower wall. The hotel staff in Reception are helpfull and friendly. The restaurant hostess at breakfast was pleasant but the wait staff person I had seemed a little grumpy (and breakfast buffet wasn't that great). Overall, if I was on a budget again, I would stay at the Royal Kona Resort.

Attitude at front desk needs to improve

We arrived at the hotel about 2:30 on March 21. The room we reserved was not ready yet. I realized that check in was not until 3:00 P.M , so we waited and waited and waited. It wasn't until about 3:45 when our room was finally ready.I found the attitute, the lack of concern and the seeming annoyance of the person on the front desk most unnerving. This is not how a customer should be treated. We asked to speak to the manager and received the same air of annoyance from her. We will definitely stay at a different hotel if we ever return to Hawaii. Sincerely, Walter Hutter
