Royal Kona Resort

Location is perfect. Rooms are clean and staff, mostly from the Philippines were very friendly and helpful. The Luau has limited performances, but good. The food at the Luau was excellent. I will recommend to a friend.

Visiting from California

The hotel itself is rather run down. For the amount of people that stay here all the time, they could put a little into the exterior. The room was not that great. The shower had some minor mold and did not drain very well. There was dust behind the dresser and night stands. The positive was the view. For the purpose I was there for (visiting family and just needed a place to sleep), it did the job.

In the heart of Kona

We went on a friend's recommendation and were very glad we did. Staff was very friendly. We didn't like our room and they happily switched us to a room with a great ocean view. (you can see our room in the photo above) Nice balconies, of course, but there are also a lot of great places to sit oceanside near the lobby and the outdoor bar, which makes a great mai tai. I saw the bad reviews about plaster, etc., so maybe it's not five stars, but it's a great hotel in a great location--it's Hawaii. No sandy beaches here, that's the other islands, but the salt water lagoon was very nice. If I can get back to Kona, I will stay again.

Big Island wedding

Experience was fine. Enjoyed the bar restaurant...great seats...viewed spinner dolphins for hours. The food was good as was the bar restaurant service. Worst part of the stay was the check-in service, not so friendly, and had to pay $10 a day parking fee that wasn't mentioned when booking.

vacation ath the end of August 2013

The room was clean and the hotel staff has always been helpful and courteous. However the acoustic isolation is poor and the balcony is designed in a way that you almost share it with the other rooms on the floor. The only :kitchen appliances or tools" in the room were a small refrigerator and a coffee machine. The rooms have no curtains and there are a lot of rooms around. The hotel has no parking lot, there is a parking across the street but you have to pay $10/day. 2 Stars because the past 2 years I have been on other Hawaiian island, and in both case the hotel/resort was offering much more for a significant lower price.

Visiting the University of the Nations

I'm 22 years old and this was one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in! I came to Kona to visit the University of the Nations so take a little bit of a vacation. This hotel was just what I needed. The room was very clean, the staff was friendly, and I was able to experience quite a bit of Hawaiian culture while here. I would definitely recommend this to a friend!

Awesome hotel, awesome views

The hotel is beautiful, we had a huuge room, with a huge Lanai. Yes, the hotel needs a little bit of TLC, but its location and price made it perfect for our vacation. Stayed at a much worse hotel on Waikiki Beacj for twice the price
