Possibly one of the best locations in Kona

Right on the beach. You can enjoy your meal and drink while staring out to the endless Pacific! All shops and restaurants located close by.

Beautiful location

The rooms are comfortable but the tv is tiny and furniture is old. The views are incredible and we watched the luau from our balcony. Also, Don the Beachcomber restaurant is right there with water front dining and excellent food.

Royal Kona Resort

This is my second stay at the Royal Kona. They are close to the downtown Kona so you can walk to restaurants, shops, or the pier. They are right on the beach so you get a beautiful view at a low price. I will definitely stay here again

Spacious, friendly, relaxed

the location can't be better. Privacy surrounded by water, yet two minutes to Kailua-Kona. Couldn't find anything wrong, the views were fantastic, a small private lagoon, but no big sandy beach, they are within walking and 5 minutes driving. Don the Beachcomber restaurant (the real MCCoy from 50's) had the best food and value in Kailua-Kona, of course, the MaiTai is outstanding. Their appetizer platter is out of this world, and those compliments come from a gourmet cook. The staff was very helpful, they even let guests print out their boarding passes for the return flight home, no charge like some hotels. The maid service was also courteous and good, but they need to clean a bit more behind the furniture and bed, not a big deal as most of the room is fine. Bathroom amenitites could have been a bit more generous, no handlotions and no hair conditioner. But when I asked for extra coffee and creamers, I got it.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Aside from in-hotel Don the Beachcomber (a must eat there and have a drink), try the Japanese restaurants, most tucked in the back along Alii drive, about 3 to 8 minutes along shopping street (Alii drive).

Good value, great location!

We were visiting Kona from Oahu, so we were only there for the weekend. We were looking for a hotel with reasonable prices and a good location. We got both at the Royal Kona! We really enjoyed being able to walk into Kona for dinner at night and the view from the Hotel Bar was beautiful! The rooms were clean and the staff very friendly!

Royal Review

classic resort hotel from decades past. Not most up to date, but a pleasant stay in an airy 70's hotel setting rather than most newer smaller and confined hotels built in the last two decades. Worth the price.

Great Location but hotel needs work

The hotel staff was friendly and the location was ideal. However, the rooms were small, not so clean, and in need of renovation and we stayed in a newly renovated room.

Lava Java is an excellent place to grab breakfast and fresh squeezed orange juice. It is a little pricey but well worth it.

Beautiful hotel with an amazing view

This is a beautiful hotel in a nice location overlooking the ocean. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The manager sent us a complimentary champagne bottle to our room once he found us we were in our honeymoon. We upgraded to a corner suite which had an absolutely breath taking view of the ocean and the pool. I absolutely suggest the travelers to doing so as well.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Many attractions are available at the pier which is about 10 minutes walk from the hotel. The Rock restaurant which is next door to the hotel offers quality and tasteful variety of dishes with an amazing view of the ocean.

Relaxing...

This was our second hotel during our vacation. Compared to our first on Oahu, this one was world's better... for the same price. Nice bar, nice pool, easy walking distance, clean, and friendly. A definite recommend.
