Over priced stay

One of the things that they could have had would have been a hot tub. Yes it was Hawi'i and hot but sometimes it is nice to just soak in a hottub at night and relax your muscles. It would have been nice to not have to listen to music blaring and rattling the windows and glass table in our room until 11:00pm from a pre-concert thing they were having.

A good stay

We arrived early, but the staff had a room for us. The room was in the Lagoon Tower, very spacious and had an ocean view from the lanai. The room was very clean, and housekeeping was quick and thorough every day of our stay. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Our only complaint was the service at the hotel lounge. We went down to the lounge to view the sunset twice (a fantastic sunset viewing location) and were extremely disappointed with the service. In a word, SLOW! Had one drink and an appetizer, and it took 2 hours from the time we sat down until we received our check. The second time, we never received a check, even after we complained to the bartender and all the waitstaff we could find. This is a good hotel, a little older, but the rooms are spacious and clean, housekeeping is great, and the staff is friendly. Just don't order from the lounge unless you have a few hours to burn.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Parasailing with UFO is about a 10 minute walk from Royal Kona. They run a friendly and professional service. It's a bit spendy, but my wife and I both felt it was well worth the money. Takes about an hour from check-in to return. A fantastic experience.

A great, relaxing stay...

This was a great trip for two single girls. Royal Kona Resort was great and accomodating. The pool was small and didn't have a whirlpool spa, but if you went during the later part of the day there were not too many people. The staff was very friendly. The on-site restaurant was too expensive, but the location was great and were able to walk up and down the street and had many places to dine. The trolley was great to get to beach accesses and more shopping. The views were awesome. The Lotus Spa was awesome...try the Lomi Lomi Hawaiian massage, it is the best!! Drink specials and great music at LuLus. It was very relaxing. The rooms were spacious, and if you go there expecting too much you will be disappointed....rooms looked old and rusty. Great ocean views made it worthwhile.

Great vacation destination

The Royal Kona Resort was a great place to spend a week. The location is perfect - almost everything in Kona is within walking distance and the view of Kailua Bay is amazing. The staff was friendly and helpful and the resort was quiet and relaxing. I had an ocean view room on the 4th floor the Lagoon tower, and spent the first couple of hours each day taking in the view from the balcony. On more than one morning I saw dolphins frolicking in the bay! The food, drinks, and view at the resort's restaurant were great, but be sure to take advantage of all of the other great restaurants within walking distance - there are too many to name! You won't be sorry if you spend your time on the Big Island at the Royal Kona.

Check out Lava Java, just a short walk up Ali'i Drive. The food is delicious (breakfast or lunch/dinner), the staff is friendly, and the view of the water is great.

Love the Location

You can tell that the Royal Kona is a bit older, but the staff is very nice and the rooms are clean, just a bit worn. We loved the location as it is right on the beach and you can walk to all the restaurants and shops.
