I could live here :)
We had such a great time! The hotel is beautiful and perfectly located in the heart of Kona. My only 2 complaints are that there is no hot tub and the pool closes so early at 8PM!!! Way too early. Other than that, everything was nearly perfect ;)

Was just fine for our needs
The Royal Kona worked for us. Although, we asked to upgrade/change rooms after the first night and they could of cleaned the upgraded room much earlier to accomodate our move. So we were homeless for three or four hours. Once into the nicer room, we were very satisfied, good view. We like that you can walk into town, instead of driving as traffic in Kailua-Kona can be crazy. It's an older hotel, but it looks like they have made several renovations, including a new bar on the water.

Great amenities and helpful staff
The Royal Kona Resort was very comfortable and full of activities. The location, which is Alii Drive, is full of shops, restaurants, and spas. The bathroom was bigger than I expected and the closet was a decent size. The Spa staff was very friendly and I feel that I got my money's worth. The restaurant was great and when I first sat down, I had fresh pineapple and soft bread and butter. The Bar was great and if you go there during happy hour, pina coladas are 50% off!

Great location
This hotel is located within walking distance to many restaurants and shops. The Mai Tai bar offer a wonderful view at the ocean and the sunset. I really appreciated the fact that one sink was outside the bathroom.

Great location
The hotel was in an excellent location. close to shopping, food, and great snorkling beaches. The room was nice and clean. We got partial ocean view. We only stayed one night, but wished we could've stayed there longer. We would definitely stay there again.

Economical
We found the staff to be ambivalent towards their guests. The rooms are nothing special. After a long journey to get to Hawaii, we checked in and went to the hotel restaurant for dinner. It was 1 minute after closing and we were turned away and directed to a neighboring restaurant. Our rate was economical for the area. Pool is small. Beach is non existant. $10 per day parking fee on hotel grounds.

A good value
This was our second stay at this property. The Kona area has increased in traffic congestion in the past twenty years and the Royal Kona is still centrally located to all the action. We arrived at 5PM when the luau guests were also arriving. It made for a hectic, confusing check-in. There is now a $10/day charge for parking for resort guests. Do not arrive at 5PM Monday, Wednesday, or Friday as you will compete with the luau guests who are using the same parking lot with limited spaces. The resort amenities were similar to twenty years ago. We were disappointed to find limited cable channel options. A microwave would have been a nice additon to the in room refigerator.

Great Location
The Royol Kona Resort has great views you are right on the ocean, however the room we stayed in was not kept up very well and needed some repairs. The location is great you are right next to Snorkel Bob's and walking distance to the ABC Stores and a variety of restraunts.

Outstanding location
There were a few gliches with our room that required two room changes, but the location of the property is so amazing. There are some rooms that overlook the trash dumpster - they are loud and if the wind is blowing the wrong way, it can smell. The rooms are large and comfortable and the bar area is perfect for snacks and drinks. Although the hotel boasts of being recently refurbished, the rooms seem a bit dated, with peeling wall paper. But overall it was clean and comfortable. The buffet breakfast is extremely limited and has no local foods, other than fruit. We had breakfast there the first morning and never returned. Even with the coupon, it wasn't worth it. But within a couple of minutes walk, there are places with great breakfasts. I would definately stay there again.

Short drive from hotel
A 5 minute drive from the hotel is a restaurant called the Big Island Grill. We ate there for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Delicious local food - if you've never had a Loco Moco, you have to try it here. The best tasting gravy!!! And the portions are huge. And the staff are all very friendly, real aloha spirit...
