Great trip to Kona as usual!
We dont need anything exceptionally fancy! A very nice place to sleep after exploring the Big Island! The only thing missing is a microwave for people who want to be on the go instead of eating out or who just would rather have popcorn for supper.

Great Place for a Three Star Hotel
My daughter and I had a great stay at the hotel even though we weren't there except to sleep. We have made many wonderful memories on the island before she leaves for the Army at the beginning of the year. Thanks to God and all His blessing He gave to us on the island and all the kind people He put in our path. Merry Christmas A Grateful Mom

NICE property - clean
We were more than satisfied with our room and the locaton of the hotel. Room was clean, big bed, nice view (mountain view b/c I am cheap). The locaton is great, as it is a short walk to ABC store and many restraunts. The bar "beach comber" was great. The mai thai there was great with the sun set. We were on the big island for 2 weeks, and at this hotel for 4 nights. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Manta ray snorkel is worth the money. You can also see them from the bar at the Sherriton for the price of a drink, or you could just walk in.

Vacation with GF for a friend's wedding
The location was prime for all the downtown shopping, restaurants, and night life. The price was also well worth the quality of hotel. The service, however, was atrocious. It was difficult to find anyone at the front desk, and they were distant when you talked to them. There was no room services, and getting fresh towels, etc was a chore. The view was amazing, but being so close to town it was loud until around 930 weekdays and 1130 weekends. Overall, it was a good experience for us because we are independent and loved the location, but if you are looking for more than that, this is not the choice for you.

senior citizen home
If you are a senior citizen, looking for a place to sleep, this is ideal -- however, if you want to have something to do, I would opt to go elsewhere more scenic. There's no hot tub or fitness center. The location is near the shops and restaurants, but is a bore for anyone under the age of 65 years old. The rooms were really small and run down. The sheets felt dirty and the bathroom did not even come with conditioner.

Great location to walk anywhere
The rooms are dated, but still fine and fairly soundproof. I had an ocean view king room and the ocean was relaxing to watch and hear. They have a small ant issue. A random gecko helps clear that though. Main cons were the slow elevators, no hottub, no microwaves, small pillows, no free shuttle (cab ride from airport is $35, shuttle is $28), old CRT tvs with interrupted signals for the channels. Pros- helpful staff, great view, awesome location, quiet room from neighbor noise (aside from loud luaus). I'd stay here again. I found a deal for $84/night. Not worth spending more than $120 though.

Very short walk to most of the shopping. Also post office is only 15 minute walk, walmart is a few blocks past that.

Nice time
We had a good time--the Royal Kona is old and bit rundown, but we still had a good time. We were on the water overlooking the Bay--it was utterly gorgeous. We kept the sliding door to the balcony open and listened to the waves all night. SO relaxing! Fantastic view. Would have appreciated a microwave to heat up leftovers. It was clean and nice just not Top of the Line or UltraModern. It was well within walking distance of almost everything in the town, so the location was great. Can't stress the view and waves sounds enough though! That was well worth it!

Kona classic!
I thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Royal Kona Resort. It is wonderfully situated, being right on the ocean and right next to town. The staff are fantastically friendly and so helpful. Nothing can beat the value you get for the moderate price paid!
