Best location for quiet families
The grounds are beautiful and fastidiously maintained. There is no beach access (which is clear from the [...] description, but it may be of assistance to know that the best beaches are on the Kohala coast and are at least a half an hour away). The cleaning of the rooms was to occur every three days, but we were unable to figure out how they calculated "three days"... It was more like every fourth or fifth day. At times, we felt that the owners of the units were not happy about the use of the premises and amenities by the Outrigger guests.

Felt like a real home
The condo was very "home-like". Seperate rooms, nice furniture. Our problem was, on the Big Island, we were hardly ever in the condo! We would get up at 6 or 7 in the morning and be gone all day until 7 or 8 at night. There is a new shopping mall up the hill that has good restaurants and a grocery store. I thought the place might be older, but it seemed very well kept. I would stay there again.

Best idea for Big Island
Easy to find, just south of Kona Town. Our unit overlooked the pool and the ocean. Very clean. Beautiful view of the ocean. Kitchen was clean and had all the items you would need. Fantastic gas grill just outside by the pool. We cooked our own food an saved a ton of money. Bathrooms are clean. Great tennis courts. We did not use the A/C and felt very comfortable with the ocean breeze and ceiling fans. Would rent again, but stay longer!

Outrigger Kanaloa at Kona
Before we made the reservation, we reviewed the prior comments, which were all good. Although we noticed a rating drop between 2008 and 2009, which continues. I was not aware that this is a private condo and not a hotel. I am unsure why the Outrigger name is on it. This should be explained. When we arrived, we were expected by the daytime only staff. I do not know what would have happened if we arrived after 5:00.P.M. Our condo was a spacious, waterfront unit on the second floor. In order to reach the first living level, we had to climb 1/2 flight of stairs from the parking lot and another two flights (all outside)to our front door. From there, we had to climb another full flight (inside)to the first living level (kitchen, dining and living rooms) and a fifth flight to the master bedroom. We are in good shape and did it, but many people may have trouble, especially with large bags. It was hot and we worked up a sweat. Snow shoveling is easier. We knew there would be no a/c, but the large fan in the first living level was broken and made the evenings in the area hot and stuffy. The top floor fans worked and were welcome. The promise of room service was broken. We went out early in the morning and when we came back, no service at all and no new towels. We had a message from the part-time desk asking if we need anything, but by the time we returned, the desk had closed for the day. The restaurant was closed for renovations, but there were plenty of other places to eat in the area. I think it was a reasonable value, but these second floor units with 5 flights of stairs to access them should be disclosed. Room service, as promised, would be appreciated. We think we are owed some refund for the lack of promised service[...]

Bad Experience
We didn't even stay there the first night, taxi driver couldn't find it, hotel would not give us credit for one night as we had prepaid the whole week. We had to stay at another hotel, till the enxt day when we could find this place. The condo was very dirty, dusty, dead bugs, it was obviously not cleaned or checked before we got there. Very disapointed that they would not credit us for the first night as we did not stay there because the taxi driver couldn't find it!!

Kona Krazy
Relaxed and unhurried
We traveled with our two adult children and there was plenty of room in the condo for all of us to have space and sleeping quarters. The master bed was comfortable and firm and the pull-out bed was good. There were ceilling fans and floor fans. We were comfortable with no AC.There are two patios per condo, one with a large table and chairs and one with seating only. There was another table and chair set in the living room. We had a large bathroom and a well-stocked kitchen, which we bought food at the nearby shopping center, and ate breakfast and lunch at the condo and went out to eat dinner. They were painting the outside of the condos and were a bit noisy one morning, so ask if they will be doing maintenance by your condo before you check in. If you need anything, ASk, they are very accomodating, but do not bug you each morning with service, infact they stock you up with towels, etc to last and check every third day. They even provide swim noodles and a boogie board and umbrella (which we used)for the beach. We were very close to the golf course and the BEST snorkeling beach in Kona. The Kona Surf shop is across the street from the snorkeling beach. They charge more -8$ for a complete set of gear; fins, mask and snorkel, but I was able to use a prescriptin mask and see the wonderful sea life!!- sea turtles, yellow tangs, and MORE!! If you don't need prescription, you could buy your gear at LONGS Drug store. They have EVERYTHING you need for your trip- gear, souvenirs, sunscreen, and reasonable prices. Around the corner is a local grocery or you can go to Walmart. They have nice hawaiian style clothes and some food, but it is not a super store. Do vist the ABC stores for great prices and nice t-shirts and sarongs. We did not go on tours , as we have been to Hawaii before and wanted to relax and go with the flow.We enjoyed our condo, pools and the beach. Our condo was a little off the main streets and we liked the beauty and quietness of the condo and the security station at the entrance. Eat shaved ice (Hawaiian invention) and enjoy the warmth. Take some cash or have acess to an ATM, as some places, a few) only take cash. When you prepare to return to the mainland, be sure and leave the condo about two hours prior to your departure. They move slowly checking you in and lines are usually long.

We went to Huggo's on the Rocks for some delicious food and a local muscian. You sit in chairs in the sand overlooking the ocean. Bongo Ben's was ok,( no ocean view)but we preferred Huggo's.

Unbeatable location for the price
We had a great time and the Condo was PERFECT! It was a huge 2 bedroom with a loft. There was pleanty of room in the condo for all four of us. The lanai was great over-looking the golf course, and the one off of the master bedroom was nice too. They came in everyday to give us new towels, and changed our sheets every 3 days. We have stayed in other Condos at the other islands, and never had our bed changed without paying a fee, or received new towels. It was nice to have clean, non-sand bedding put on our beds. We did a lot of snorkeling all over the island, but the best place was only about a five minute drive. This was our first time to the Big Island, and we really enjoyed it.
