What a Paradise!

We loved the Mauna Lani! It was more than we expected and cannot wait to go back. Very lovely and private with great amenities and such good food on site. The beach is so wonderful there... I chose Mauna Lani because of the ancient fishponds and petroglyphs and that history made it very special! I fell in love with the Sting Ray on site and visited him often. Shops, restaurants and an upscale grocery store were really close to hotel and such a nice convenience. We spent more than one Happy Hour at Tommy Bahamas restaurant for the fabulous coconut prawns watching the sunset. Simply paradise... We'll be back very, very soon!

Lots of complimentary service

If we do come back to the Big Island, probably won't stay here again. Property is a bit old and for the price, you can probably get better rooms. The good. - Checkin was a breeze, literally, in the open air lobby. Nice touch with the cool oshibori (hand towel) and fresh juice (might've been POG? a Hawaii delicacy, passion + orange + guave juice) - Most resorts in Hawaii will charge you for anything and everything, this place won't. - Parking? free, Internet? free. You get the idea... towels, snorkel gears (lots of other sea sports as well) - The beach right behind this hotel is known for green sea turtles, I snorkeled there twice and saw 5 turtles, literarily swam right next to them. The beach there is also very shallow and calm, so good for beginners - For best snorkeling, take a 10 minute walk south from the hotel to Makaiwa Bay (where the restaurant "Boathouse" is at). It's part of the resort, so they have cabanas/lounge chairs. Better to go in the morning as water is calm/clear, and less crowded. We had a harder time trying to pick a good spot from all the empty cabanas than finding one :-) - Cool elevator in the middle of the resort, I'm sure kids would like that. The average / bad. - Complimentary coffe stands in the morning can backup easily and the staff doesn't have a good way to refill them without fighting for space with the guests, quite chaotic especially before guests are caffeinated - Do everything you can to get out of staying in one of the rooms facing the parking lot, unless you enjoy watching valet parking staff running around all day - We stayed in room #501, one of the ADA (disability) rooms. It might be a bit more spacious than a normal room (I'm not sure), but there's no desk and the TV is off to the side on the table, kinda weird. And there's some weird plumbing / pump? noise when you're in the bathroom every 15 minutes or so, sounds like someone is trying to escape from down below or something

Really Pleasant Experience

Lovely place-- hotel makes the most of the soft Hawaiian breezes. Fascinating fish ponds nearby. Beach chairs are comfortable and offer adjustable sun/wind shades-- perfect for relaxing and watching the sunset. Meals are pricey but rooms have mini-fridges and there is a market in the resort shopping area. Parking is $18 a night, so add that on to your rental car expense. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Lots to do in and around the hotel, and the location is good for access to all of the island.

True Aloha

The Mauna Lani Hotel is a wonderful resort to visit. My husband and I really enjoyed it's beautiful location. It has everything a Hawaiin vacation needs: a nice pool, great beach for swimming, a wonderful private bay for extraordinary snorkling, and plenty of lava tidal pools for exploring and watching waves. The staff was very accomodating and met all our needs. The room was beautiful and well maintained. The hotel grounds were absolutely fantastic. We will recommend this as a destination to others and we will be returning soon!

The place to be on the Big Island

What you will find at the Mauna Lani is a tranquil vacataion where your booking is NOT just the admission so they can charge you more. Mauna Lani features free in-room high-speed internet, free cabanas, free snorkelign (4 hrs), free tennis (1 hr per day), free coffee from 6a-9a. The hotel and the rooms are not fancy, but they are clean, comfortable, practical & relaxing. The fishponds around the hotel also add to the relaxing atmosphere. All staff members we spoke to were super friendly and even their beach food is very tasty & healthy.

Do not spend $100 p.p. on a snorkel tour. Get the 4 hr free equipment rental from Mauna Lani resort and walk over to their crescent beach - some of the best snorkeling there on the coast. Their main beach also has turtles coming up once in a while.

This is the best hotel on big island

This is a great hotel for a romantic couple. The pictures do not really show you how nice this hotel is. It's by the far the most beautiful hotel on big island that I've seen. The nice thing about the hotel is that is manages to be luxurious, yet retains some Hawaiian charm with it's styling. I've staying in many of the worlds best hotels, and there aren't many times you walk out the door feeling that everything about your experience was perfect. The rooms are excellent, and the service it first class. For a midsize hotel it makes you feel like royalty when you walk out the front door and the valet is already pulling your car around because they recognized you walking down the hall. They upgrade your room without asking and for free because they are not full. I hate it when you check into a 5 star hotel and they charge you to use all the facilities that made it a 5 star hotel to begin with. None of that here. You use everything for free. They also have the best restaurant we ate at during our stay on the Big Island.

Canoe House restaurant is the best restaurant we ate at during our stay on Big Island. In fact it was the best diner I'd had in months. Food and service is excellent, but the setting it wonderful and romantic, right on the beach, yet elegant. Next door at the fairmont, they have a similar restaurant for twice the price, yet the atmosphere is not as nice, and the food is no better.

Great place for families or honeymooners. We loved their hospitality.

Great place for families or honeymooners. We loved their hospitality. At Mauna Lani, you dont get charge for pool chairs, snorkeling, tennis etc, everything is included. They have the best beach access and a great pool. One thing we would have done differently is to rent a weekly car because you must see the island but there is no public transportation. Its highly recommended and we would go back to the same hotel if we had the chance.
